  • Patent number: 8030078
Abstract: A base game on a gaming machine may be a conventional 5×3 video reel-type game, where awards are granted for winning symbol combinations in the base game. If a bonus trigger has occurred, a special card deck symbol is added to at least one reel, and the player is granted free bonus spins of the virtual reels in a bonus round. The player accumulates bonus win awards during the free bonus spins based on at least winning combinations of symbols. If the deck symbol is displayed after a spin, the player is randomly dealt a playing card. Dealt playing cards are accumulated until the player has accumulated seven cards. A multiplier is associated with the value of the best five-card hand, and the accumulated bonus win awards are multiplied by the multiplier to identify a final amount to be awarded to the player. The bonus game is then terminated.

  • Patent number: 8031098
Abstract: In one embodiment, digital-to-analog converter (DAC) circuit includes dual DAC units employing pseudo-return-to-zero DAC operations to reduce inter-symbol interference. Moreover, each DAC unit is implemented using complementary MOS transistors to improve conversion performance. In another embodiment, a DAC calibration scheme performs background calibration of an array of DAC circuits in continuous time using a reference DAC circuit and a spare DAC circuit. Calibration (also referred to as “trimming”) of the DAC circuit using the calibration scheme of the present invention ensures that the DAC operates with high linearity over process variations. In one embodiment, the DAC circuit and the DAC calibration scheme are applied as the feedback DAC in a continuous-time sigma-delta (CT-??) analog-to-digital converter to realize high performance and high precision analog-to-digital conversions.

  • Patent number: 8032020
Abstract: An optical spectrum monitor includes a tunable optical detector that receives optical channel monitoring signals from an optical channel and receives a control signal that selects a frequency of an optical channel monitoring signal for detection. The tunable optical detector detects the optical channel monitoring signal selected by the control signal and generates an electrical signal related to a power of the detected optical channel monitoring signal. A processor analyzes a plurality of differences between selected optical channel monitoring frequencies and their corresponding ITU frequencies and then generates the control signal at the output that corrects for at least one of systematic band offset and systematic band tilt in the optical channel monitoring frequency.

  • Patent number: 8018999
Abstract: A method for simulating an image captured at a long exposure time (“simulated image”), includes (1) capturing each of first, second, and third images at a short exposure time, (2) determining a first relative motion between the first and the second images, (3) transforming the first image to remove the first relative motion, (4) determining a second relative motion between the third and the second images, (5) transforming the third image to remove the second relative motion, and (6) combining the first, the second, and the third images to form the simulated image. Relative motions between images are determined by matching blocks at multiple resolutions to determine corresponding points between the images. Transformation to remove relative motion is determined by fitting corresponding points between the images using a minimum square error (MSE) algorithm in a random sample consensus (RANSAC) framework.

  • Patent number: 8018704
Abstract: A circuit breaker for a power controller integrated circuit is described where an analog timer and a digital timer are provided in parallel. The digital timer provides a fixed, on-chip maximum delay during an overcurrent condition to ensure the transistor will not be damaged. The analog timer allows the user to select an external capacitor or resistor to provide a delay time that is shorter than the time provided by the digital timer. Accordingly, the power controller retains all the flexibility of an analog timer but prevents the overcurrent exceeding a maximum time limit. An autoretry circuit is also included in the power controller which prevents the duty cycle from exceeding a maximum. The autoretry timer is a digital timer that uses the same oscillator as the digital timer for the circuit breaker so the ratio of the delay times is known and fixed.

  • Patent number: 7979813
Abstract: A method is described for converting an existing die, originally designed for a non-chip-scale package, to a chip-scale package die, where the die's bonding pads are located in positions within a defined grid of candidate positions. In the first step, the die's layout, comprising its outer boundaries and areas needed to be electrically connected to bonding pads, are shifted relative to a grid of candidate positions for the bonding pads until an optimal alignment is identified. Bonding pads positions on the die are then selected corresponding to optimum grid positions within the outer boundaries of the die. The die is then fabricated using the original masks to form at least the semiconductor regions and using a new set of masks for defining the new locations of the bonding pads for the chip-scale package. The chip-scale package is then bonded to a PCB using chip-scale package technology.

  • Patent number: 7973846
Abstract: An image capture method in a digital image sensor implements a continuous sampling technique with a massively parallel thermometer-code analog-to-digital conversion (ADC) technique to generate pixel data having an intrinsic to an ultra-high dynamic range. In one embodiment, the method includes, after an initial exposure period, sampling pixel intensity values at the pixel elements of an image sensor at multiple sampling intervals within a snapshot of a scene; providing an analog reference voltage corresponding to a decrementing digital count value; and comparing the pixel intensity values to the analog reference voltage at each of the multiple sampling intervals. If the pixel intensity value of a first pixel element is less than the analog reference voltage at a first exposure time, an output signal having a first value is generated and the digital count value is recorded as pixel data associated with the first pixel element.
