Abstract: In some embodiments, an electronic device includes a processor, a physical memory coupled to the processor, and a storage medium coupled to the processor. The storage medium may store instructions which when executed by the processor cause the processor to: survey at least a portion of the physical memory, determine an amount of free memory space and used memory space based on the survey of the physical memory, determine if a consolidation of used memory space should be performed, and, if so determined, consolidate the used memory space, and reduce the power provided to at least a portion of the physical memory following the consolidation of used memory space. Other embodiments are disclosed and claimed.
Abstract: A pipelined Universal Serial Bus (USB) parallel frame delineator and non-return to zero invert (NRZI) decoder is described. Using a three-stage pipeline and parallel data stream processing, a USB transceiver delineates received asynchronous frame boundaries within a USB peripheral NRZI data stream. Using asynchronous parallel data stream processing the USB transceiver concurrently decodes received NRZI encoded data.
Abstract: A thermal management device includes a thermally conductive core, a thermally conductive frame positioned around the core, the frame defining at least one opening, and at least one thermally conductive insert disposed in the opening in the frame.
Abstract: A system including a data requester and a storage system. The storage system determines which prefetch data to include with demand data, without the data requester specifying the prefetch data, and provides information enabling the data requestor to discern the demand data from the prefetch data. The data requestor can be a disk drive driver which copies the demand data in fulfilling an operating system request, and then caches the prefetch data. The storage system can be a disk drive.
Abstract: A netlist model of a physical circuit is provided. The netlist model includes a virtual delay element, wherein the virtual delay element is coupled to an asynchronous circuit element.
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for communicating data using a hub. The method includes determining a first estimated unused capacity left in a first frame in which a second transaction is to be performed between a hub and an agent. The method then includes determining an amount of a first data that can fit into the estimated unused capacity and that is to be sent to the hub during a first transaction and then sent by the hub to the agent during the second transaction. The method also includes sending the first data to the hub during the first transaction.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for low pin count firmware hub recovery on a circuit board having a firmware hub includes coupling a firmware hub recovery module having a firmware program onto the circuit board, establishing communication between a central processing unit (CPU) and the firmware hub recovery module, and reprogramming the firmware hub by the firmware program.
Abstract: An apparatus includes a low magnetic-coercivity layer of material (LMC layer) having a majority electron-spin-polarization (M-ESP), an energy-gap coupled with the LMC layer, wherein a flow of spin-polarized electrons having an electron-spin-polarization anti-parallel to the LMC layer are injected via the energy-gap, to change the M-ESP of the LMC layer. A non-magnetic material is in electrical communication with the LMC layer and provides a spin-balanced source of current to the LMC layer, responsive to the injection of spin-polarized electrons into the LMC layer.
Abstract: A system for determining whether a memory is connected to a controller in a node of a data network. In order to utilize non-volatile memory elsewhere in the system, it is possible to eliminate the EEPROM which is normally connected to the controller. In order to indicate that the EEPROM is deliberately missing, a pull-up resistor connected to a voltage source is connected to the chip select signal line which normally runs between the controller and the EEPROM. If a high signal is received, the controller knows that the EEPROM is deliberately missing and that non-volatile memory will be provided elsewhere in the system.

Abstract: A method is provided for processing a remote request by a local processor. The method includes the steps of receiving a remote request from a remote node over a network by a remote aware software driver interface and modifying the remote request with a software converter to emulate a local request which can be processed by the local processor. The method also includes the step of verifying that the remote request can be serviced by the local processor and executing the remote request by the local processor.
Abstract: Some disclosed embodiments include a retention apparatus having a unidirectional locking member, the unidirectional locking member defining a bore therethrough, a post disposed through the bore of the unidirectional locking member, wherein the post is adapted to be secured to a support base, and a spring adapted to bias the unidirectional locking member against a device to be retained, wherein the unidirectional locking member is adapted to allow movement of the device in a first direction and to inhibit movement of the device in a second direction opposite to the first direction. The retention apparatus may be used to maintain contact between a heatsink and a processor on a motherboard. Other embodiments are disclosed and claimed.
Abstract: A video conference station is disclosed comprising an image analyzer and a camera controller. The image analyzer receives video frames from a communicatively coupled first camera, detects the head of one or more conference participants within the received video frames and detects an active participant from the one or more conference participants. The camera controller, coupled to the image analysis circuit, controls a second camera based, at least in part, on detecting the active participant.
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for communicating data using a hub. The method includes the step of buffering a single transfer request received at a hub during a transaction between the hub and a host controller, where the single transfer request is to be performed between the hub and an agent to generate a result. The method then includes the step of determining whether a transfer inquiry received at the hub from the host controller corresponds to the result.
