Abstract: A composition and method for the treatment and prevention of plaque accumulation on teeth wherein there is administered to the oral cavity an oral composition comprising an orally acceptable aqueous vehicle containing an effective therapeutic amount of a noncationic antibacterial agent and an acrylic polymer/polyoxyalkylene copolymer formed from about 80 to about 90% by weight of the acrylic polymer and about 5 to about 20% by weight of the polyoxyalkylene having a molecular weight greater than 4,000 and less than 20,000 the antibacterial compound exhibiting increased antiplaque activity on dental tissue.
