  • Patent number: 6792835
Abstract: A tool assembly includes a multi-purpose tool, an adaptor and a socket wrench. The multi-purpose tool includes a body that contains implements such as knives, openers, scissors and other such devices. A fixed plier jaw extends from the body, and a movable plier jaw pivots about the body to a closed position against the fixed plier jaw. The closed plier jaws include an opening that surrounds and engages a driven section of the adaptor. The driven section includes an elongated cross-section to form a long torque arm within the closed jaw opening. A flange at each end of the driven section holds the adaptor in an axial direction. A universal socket may be attached to the driven end of the adaptor to provide a wrench suitable for many fastener shapes.

  • Patent number: 6566625
Abstract: The invention provides a plasma welding or brazing process in which a direct current pilot arc is maintained throughout the process. The process comprises the steps of setting a pilot arc power supply (6) to a relatively high level, generating a high voltage spark discharge between a non-consumable electrode (14) of a plasma welding or brazing torch (2) and a nozzle (18) of said torch in order to start the flow of a pilot arc current, detecting the pilot arc current and reducing the pilot arc current to a relatively low level. The invention further provides apparatus for carrying out plasma arc welding, comprising a plasma welding torch, a controller and a power supply. The controller further comprises means for detecting the flow of a pilot arc current and or a main arc current and means for reducing this current on detection.

  • Patent number: 6505648
Abstract: A device (10) for treating a continuously moving liquid has a liquid inlet (12) and a liquid outlet (14) at opposite ends of a generally annular passage (16). The passage has a restriction (18) which is generally cylindrical and which, at its outlet (22) is formed with an annular shoulder (24) which provides an abrupt change in the diameter of the passage. An obstruction (26) in the form of a wire extends across the restriction (18) adjacent the outlet (22). The restriction (18) serves to increase the speed of liquid flowing through the passage, thus reducing the liquid pressure. The obstruction (26) also assists in reducing the liquid pressure. The device reduces the liquid pressure below a level at which cavitation occurs in order to induce cavitation.

  • Patent number: 6348691
Abstract: A motion detector based on mirrored optics for use in decorative lighting fixtures. The motion detector includes a mirror assembly that may be disposed within decorative elements such as saucers and chimneys that are common elements of lighting fixtures. Apertures are defined in the decorative element to admit infra-red radiation, which impinges on the mirror assembly. The mirror assembly comprises a plurality of opaque elongate members that are azimuthally spaced about a central longitudinal axis in such a way as to define an alternating sequence of open elongate slots and opaque elongate members. Each elongate member is formed with a mirror face on its inner surface which is generally facing the central longitudinal axis, and a PIR sensor is also disposed at the longitudinal axis.

  • Patent number: 6346705
Abstract: A motion detector assembly for a decorative lighting fixture that conceals the presence of the motion detector in a decorative element integrated into the design of the lighting fixture and that uses only mirrored optics instead of Fresnel lenses. The motion detector assembly includes a housing having a decorative external appearance harmonious with the style of the lighting fixture and forming an integral part of the lighting fixture. Included within the housing are a mirror assembly and PIR sensor. The mirror assembly includes a number of mirror faces that define a number of monitored zones in the field of view. Each respective mirror face defines an optical path in which radiation admitted through an aperture in the housing from an associated zone is directed to the sensor solely by the respective mirror face without the need for secondary mirrors or auxiliary lenses to complete the optical path.

  • Patent number: 6225748
Abstract: A circuit arrangement according to the invention is intended to be used in a PIR motion-activated lighting fixture of the type that includes a triac for energizing the light from the AC power mains and a triac firing circuit for firing the triac in response to motion. To provide the accent lighting level and to control the magnitude of that level, the circuitry includes a window comparator, in which the thresholds are set to defining a dimming window, and a filter circuit responsive to the AC power line and providing an input signal to the window comparator. The filter circuit includes a circuit arrangement for shifting the phase of the input signal with respect to the AC power line signal and for contemporaneously scaling the amplitude of the input signal with respect to the AC power line signal such that the peak amplitude of the input signal diminishes as the phase shift of the input signal increases.

  • Patent number: 5766401
Abstract: The invention provides a process for making an assembly of self-adhering, pressure sensitive labels wherein a facestock of continuous printable sheet material is first printed and overcoated with a silicone polymer acting as a release agent on its obverse side and is next printed and overcoated with a waterborne, pressure sensitive polymer adhesive on its reverse side, the imprinted and coated sheet material then being assembled into a coiled sheet roll or into a layered stack of selected lengths thereof, such that the first (obverse) side of one length of sheet material is placed in substantially contiguous contact with the opposing second (reverse) side of each subsequently assembled length of sheet material. The resulting label package does not require additional silicone release sheets, and the continuous sheet can be perforated and/or cut during assembly to provide a packaged supply of tear-off labels.

  • Patent number: 5599795
Abstract: A new method for the prevention and treatment of Idiopathic inflammatory Bowel Disease (IIBD), including Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, in human patients is provided. The key steps include sterilizing the intestinal tract with multiple antibiotics to kill the pre-existing bacterial flora, and replacing the latter with different, select, well-characterized bacteria taken from normal humans. The new microflora serve to generate more normal metabolic and immune responses, remitting thereby the IIBD.

  • Patent number: 5317488
Abstract: An integral, light weight, recyclable, self-contained battery operated and insulated lighting system using an electroluminescent light source is described. This is achieved by re-locating the terminals of an electroluminescent light source away from the outer edges, securing the power supply unit onto the body of the light source, and encapsulating both the electroluminating light source and the converter into one unit. On-off control, if desired, is incorporated in the same unit using a commercial membrane switch. Only the low voltage D.C. end of the converter is therefore exposed for attachment to a regular battery which may also be encapsulated with the converter and light source into one single unit, increasing further the water and electrical resistivity and hence the safety of the system. The system is recyclable. A damaged or spent unit can be removed, replaced, followed by the re-encapsulation of the entire system.
