Abstract: A card reader has a card reader main unit, a magnetic head which is situated on the card reader main unit and reads contents recorded in a card, a magnetic head holding device for swingably holding the magnetic head, and a partition wall which prevents foreign materials from invading the card reader main unit. The partition wall has an opening for the holding device through which the magnetic head holding device is inserted. Invasion preventing device is attached to the opening for the holding device, and has an opening for the magnetic head through which the magnetic head is inserted and which is in close contact with the periphery of the magnetic head. Only a card data reading portion of the magnetic head is allowed to protrude through the opening to the card insertion face of the card reader main unit, whereby invasion of foreign materials from the outside is prevented.

  • Patent number: 6041996
Abstract: A method of pressure bonding a bumped electronic part using: a tilting mechanism which tiltably supports a suction tool for sucking a bumped electronic part; and locking means for inhibiting a tilting operation of the tilting mechanism. The method includes: a suction step of sucking the bumped electronic part to the suction tool; a step of detecting the position of the bumped electronic part which is sucked to the suction tool, and positioning the bumped electronic part with respect to a substrate, under a state where the tilting operation is inhibited; and a pressure bonding step of pressure bonding bumps of the bumped electronic part which is sucked to the suction tool, to the substrate under a state where the tilting operation is enabled. According to this arrangement, the tilting mechanism is not accidentally swung during the positioning operation, and hence the mounting accuracy is prevented from being impaired.

  • Patent number: 6039076
Abstract: A high energy loss fluid control device includes a plurality of annularly-shaped discs stacked one upon another and a reciprocal plug in slidable contact with the discs. Each of the discs has an inner periphery, an outer periphery, and a plurality of flow passageways extending between an inlet and an outlet located at the inner and outer peripheries. Each of the flow passageways have a plurality of sections connected with right-angle turns. The sections alternate between extending in a circumferential direction and a radial direction. Each passageway has an expanding cross-sectional area but each section has a constant cross-sectional area. A first one of the sections is radially extending toward the inlet to cause fluid to act upon itself and expend energy by turbulent interaction. Immediately downstream of the first section, second one of the sections is radially extending toward the outlet.

  • Patent number: 6034445
Abstract: Electrical loads are powered by one of several different power sources through a selector switch. A monitoring circuit monitors the different power sources to sense a change of state, that is, power up or shut down. Such a change indicates that the selector switch is likely to be operated to select a new power source. The monitoring circuit shuts down certain loads to limit current surges when the new power source is connected.

  • Patent number: 6029322
Abstract: A device for deterring theft of an article, including a fragile vial containing a theft deterring substance; a vial carrier structure and a cover structure. The carrier structure includes a weakened region allowing the vial carrier to yield if a force is exerted on the attachment, thereby causing the vial to break due to loads transferred via vial engaging surfaces. The connection between the carrier structure and the cover structure is formed by two or more distinct local connections separated by a central area and located spaced away from the attachment in opposite longitudinal directions of the vial. The proposed device is of a simple cost-effective and light construction while the vial reliably fractures if an unauthorized attempt is made to remove the device.
