  • Patent number: 5345726
Abstract: A grinding bit apparatus used in conjunction with a grinding machine. A water pump in the form of a cylindrically shaped member having a helical groove on the surface thereof is mounted on the drive shaft of the grinding machine, a lower end portion thereof being located in a water reservoir. A grinding bit is mounted to the drive shaft above the water pump and is passively connected with the water pump so as to rotate with the drive shaft. One or more washers are placed between the water pump and the grinding bit so as to selectively vary the location of the working surface of the grinding bit with respect to the work table. An annular collar openings is provided which depends from the work table to surround the water pump and any portion of the grinding bit below the work surface.

  • Patent number: 5333962
Abstract: A hybrid binder-folder utilizing a foldable ring system for holding pages, which affords the advantage of easy page manipulation of ring binders with the advantage of flat folding of folders. The binder-folder has two side members which are mutually foldable along the centerline therebetween. Two, three or more foldable rings of flat, thin cross-section and of substantially semicircular shape are connected with the side members adjacent with and transverse to the centerline. When the two side members are mutually folded closed, the foldable rings fold along three folds: adjacent each connection with the two side members and at the ring apex. As a result of this foldability feature, the foldable rings are able to flatly fold, thereby permitting the binder-folder to be substantially flat when closed.

  • Patent number: 5305585
Abstract: An aquatic plant uprooter for ridding a body of water of undesirable plantlife, composed of a hollow handle, a hollow discharge member connected at right angles to the handle, and a plurality of regularly spaced apart nozzles connected with the discharge member. A flexible hose connects a distal end of the handle to a water pump. The handle serves as a fluidic conduit for water from the pump to flow into the discharge member, which in turn, serves as a fluidic conduit for water from the handle to flow into the nozzles. The nozzles are structured, located and mutually spaced so that a jet of water emerges from each, which collectively disturbs the soil of a body of water so as to uproot aquatic plants by undermining their anchorage in the soil. The soil-freed plants may be directly accumulated in a net member attached to the handle and discharge member, or may be collected by use of a separate rake-net system.

  • Patent number: 5295481
Abstract: A device providing performance of CPR without need to exert forces of such magnitude that the patient may be injured, and which further provides performance of defibrillation and ventilation. The CPR assist device according to the present invention is composed generally of an elongate column member, handles mounted normal to the column member, a suction cup member mounted at one end of the column member, and a defibrillation system so that the patient may be defibrillated in conjunction with CPR. According to the method of the present invention, an aid giver places the suction cup member of the CPR assist device on the chest of the patient, then grabs the handles and proceeds to alternately press on the chest and pull from the chest. The suction cup member causes the chest to compress and expand, thereby creating a churning action within the chest cavity that resuscitates the patient.

  • Patent number: 5274952
Abstract: A bonsai training planter structured in the form of a screen walled plant container covered with a sheet material having a preselected opacity. It is preferred that the corners thereof be provided with structural members to which screening is attached. The mesh size of the screening is small enough to hold soil placed within the planter, but large enough to permit roots to grow therethrough. The sheet material is placed over the screening in order to provide a low light environment at and near the screening which is conducive to auxin production. In operation, a seed or seedling is placed in the soil of the bonsai training planter. As dominant roots grow, they reach the screening and then commence to emerge therefrom into air. The portions of the dominant root emerging from the screening dry-out and die. The death of the emergent portion of the dominant root send auxins up the root, thereby inducing feeder root growth along the dominant root.

  • Patent number: 5268634
Abstract: An electro-optical control system having a multi-key keypad, an alpha-numeric display, means for periodically generating a pulsed light beam, means for detecting a portion of the light beam to generate an analog signal, means for converting the analog signal to a digital signal and means for subtracting an ambient light level form the digital data to generate a difference signal. The difference signal is averaged and filtered to generate a digital signal level which is displayed on the alpha-numeric display. The electro-optical control system has two output switches which are activated when digital signal level is between programmed upper and lower limits for each output switch. The values of the upper and lower limits are programmable using the keypad. The upper and lower limits are displayed on the alpha-numeric display as they are generated.

  • Patent number: 5251564
Abstract: A combustion box exhaust filtration system and method which removes both particulate matter (PM) and unburned hydrocarbons (UHC) from the exhaust gases. Two filters in parallel are used, each alternating operation as the other regenerates. Each filter is preferred to be constructed in a conventional manner and operates at between 100 to 300 degrees Centigrade. A microprocessor controlled valve system regulates which filter is active and which is regenerating and/or inactive. PM accumulates at the active filter, with UHC condensing on the PM. Accordingly, only PM and UHC free gasses pass out the exhaust. When the active filter becomes clogged, the microprocessor switches it to inactive status, and switches the other filter to active status. Regeneration of the inactive filter is initiated by the microprocessor using a glow plug at a predetermined location in the filter, in which PM and UHC burn slowly across the entire filter.
