Abstract: The invention relates to a filter in which dust-containing silica sand is held together by a polyurethane binder, the polyurethane binder containing an organotin compound with a molecular weight of more than 600 as catalyst and a mixture of highly dispersed silica and/or bentonites with a thickened aluminosilicate as modifier. The filter is particularly suitable for the production of drinking water from ground water in surface mining regions.

Abstract: Radiation-polymerizable compositions are especially useful as or in a flush vehicle for making flushed pigments. The compositions contain at least one radiation-curable acrzylated resin component and a copolymerizable rheology modifier component.
Abstract: Carboxylic acids, particularly dicarboxylic acids, are separated from a fermentation broth by adjusting the pH of the fermentation broth to about 2.0 or below, and then heating the broth to a temperature sufficient to cause formation of three immiscible phases, one of which is an organic phase containing the carboxylic acids.
Abstract: Novel coating compositions including a polymer, a silane and a hydrazide. The polymer having at least one reactive functional group. Optionally, the coating composition includes a pigment. Coatings made from such compositions are also described. Methods of preparing a coating by applying the coating composition to a substrate and curing to form a film are also described herein. The preferred coating compositions are formaldehyde-free and isocyanate-free, can be air cured and provide coatings that exhibit improved adhesion to the substrate, improved print and block resistance and improved solvent and water resistance.

Abstract: An aqueous liquid composition for cleaning and degreasing metal surfaces consists essentially of water and the following dissolved stably dispersed, or both dissolved and stably dispersed components: A) alkali metal borate salts; B) boric acid in excess of any generated by reaction of anions of component a) with water; C) nonionic surfactant; and D) anionic and/or amphoteric surfactants.
Abstract: A cooking utensil has a base portion and a wall portion, wherein at least the wall portion is disposable after a single use. The wall portion includes a score line for irreversibly forming an opening in the wall portion. Tabs may be provided on either side of the score line for facilitating opening of the wall portion along the score line.
