Abstract: A source for reducing drift of a hot spot by producing infrared (IR) light with an insulating housing; an electrical power supply; first and second resistance elements having first and second resistivities; a third resistance element having a third resistivity; the third resistance element disposed between the first and second resistance elements, with the resistivity of the third resistance element having a value greater than the resistivity of both the first and second resistance elements. Alternatively, the first and second resistance elements can have cross-sectional areas that are greater than that of the third resistance. A method of reducing drift of a hot spot in a radiating element of a source of IR illumination by applying constant polarity substantially constant direct current from the power supply and reversing polarity in less than 24 hours, by a square wave AC source, or a Class E amplifier at constant power.
Abstract: A coated fiber mat of improved tear strength upon dividing pieces of the coated mat and the coating is provided. The coated mat is a cured, non-woven mat including a mixture of fibers having different fiber lengths. The fibers contain a polysiloxane compound and are fixedly distributed in a binder.

Abstract: A solid phase extraction (SPE) device having a reservoir with an opening; a well comprising an internally tapered wall, the well having a wider interior diameter at an end closest to the opening than at an exit spout; a first filter within the well; a bed of sorbent particles within the well below the first filter, and a second filter having a diameter smaller than the first filter within the well below the bed of sorbent particles and above the exit spout is provided. A method of performing SPE using the device is also provided.

Abstract: A unitary annular reduction duct suitable for joining pipes comprising an annular entrance collar of a given diameter, a corrugated and gradually inwardly tapered reduction portion that is contiguous with the collar section and a corrugated and substantially vertical annular exit portion contiguous with the reduction portion whereby the reduction portion has a diameter less than the collar section. The reduction duct may also be used to join pipes of different shapes.

Abstract: A color code system for encoding information on products and other substrates. The color code is printed by a color printer using single intensity colors in specific shapes aligned side by side successively. The code is predetermined. The code can be read by a video device and decode by a computer. The present invention allows for densely packed encoded information in a small space that can be cheaply and easily read and decoded.
