Patent number: 6204477Abstract: A method for applying a stainless steel weld overlay on a substrate, e.g., a carbon steel or low alloy steel, uses an arc welding process. The process includes welding a stainless steel weld overlay onto the substrate using a shielding gas mixture including greater than 2% nitrogen by volume with balance being an inert gas or a mixture of inert gases. The nitrogen is of a sufficient concentration so as to eliminate solidification cracking in the weld overlay. In addition, the nitrogen may help to eliminate a mismatch in me coefficient of thermal expansion between the weld overlay and the substrate. Furthermore, if the weld overlay comprises only a single layer, the nitrogen concentration in the shielding gas mixture may be less than 2%.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 1997Date of Patent: March 20, 2001Assignee: WSI Welding Services, Inc.Inventor: George Ying-Dean Lai

Patent number: 6201602Abstract: The present invention relates to a detector (1) of foreign fibres and to a corresponding detection method, which can be used for detecting foreign fibres and foreign materials in a measurement object (5) in the textile industry, for example in yarns, slithers and unformed fiber bands on, for example, weaving machines, spinning machines, bobbin winding machines, doubling machines, cards, drawing benches and bobbin frames . . . . The principle of the detection is based on the fact that a measurement object (5) and foreign fibres or materials which are situated in the measurement object (5) absorb the light emitted into the measurement volume (4) by a light source (2) to different extents. All the light in the measurement volume (4), or a representative sample thereof, is measured by photodetectors (3) and converted into a photoelectric signal.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1999Date of Patent: March 13, 2001Assignee: Barco B.V.Inventor: Patrick Bouvyn

Patent number: 6200772Abstract: Sensor devices, and analytical methods using them, employing a detector protected from direct contact with samples being examined by a membrane made of a polyurethane modified with a non-ionic surfactant. The detector is preferably an electrode of conventional type (e.g. plantinum metal, optionally with pseudo, counter or reference electrodes) but especially an enzyme electrode. The surfactant may be incorporated into the polyurethane by admixture or by reacting chemically with the polyurethane, and is preferably a condensate of ethylene oxide with a compound containing a hydrophobic moiety—especially with a hydroxy-compound, e.g. an alkylated phenol, fatty alcohol or a sorbitan ester. Conveniently, the polyurethane membrane may contain up to 20 parts per 100 of polyurethane and be up to 10 microns thick, and formed by dip-coating an electrode. Measurements, using electrodes, may be made amperometrically.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2000Date of Patent: March 13, 2001Assignee: Sensalyse Holdings LimitedInventors: Pankaj Maganlal Vadgama, Geraldine Patricia Rigby, Sayed Ahmed

Patent number: 6200354Abstract: A method of dyeing cellulosic fibers or fabrics using pre-metallized acid dye by pretreating the fabric with a cationic agent having a plurality of cationic centers and optionally after treating the dyed material with a cationic polymer is disclosed. The cationic polymer is desirably a polyquaternary amine material especially a poly(DADMAC) or polyvinylpyridine. Material dyed by the method has a “washed out” appearance similar to fabrics dyed using the “Jarofast” process, but the availability of a wide range of pre-metallized dyes gives a wider color range, and the method enables a wider range of substrates to be dyed successfully, including lyocell fiber materials e.g. those sold under Courtauld's trademark “Tencel” and blend/union materials with polyamides, easier processing and superior wash and light fastness.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1999Date of Patent: March 13, 2001Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries PLCInventors: Geoffrey William Collins, Stephen Martin Burkinshaw, Roy Gordon

Patent number: 6201861Abstract: In a method according to one intelligent network recommendation, when B subscriber has hung up the phone, a Service Switching Point (SSP) sends a message to a Service Control Point (SCP) about the hanging up. The SCP responds with a request to disconnect the B leg. A separate request increases unnecessary signalling. In another known method, after B subscriber has hung up, a timer is started and the B leg is disconnected only after a set period of time. This waiting time is annoying to A subscriber, especially when there are many calls to be made. In the method according to the invention, A subscriber can make a continuing call without waiting or without causing unnecessary signalling so that after a Service Control Function (SCF) receives information about the break off of the call, it sends a message to a Service Switching Function (SSF) containing a request to collect the dialling by A subscriber relating to a new B subscriber.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1997Date of Patent: March 13, 2001Assignee: Nokia Telecommunications OyInventor: Mika Pykälistö

Patent number: 6201573Abstract: In a solid-state imaging apparatus of the present invention, after an integration operation is started with an integration circuit by setting a reset instruction signal at logical zero, charges stored in a light receiving device are discharged by selecting this light receiving device. A value of an integration signal obtained by an integration operation of an integration circuit is compared with a reference value by a comparing circuit. A capacitance control section informs a capacitance instruction signal to a variable capacitor section of the integration circuit in response to a comparing result. A feedback loop is formed, which consists of the integration circuit, the comparing circuit, and a capacitance control circuit. When the value of the integration signal agrees finally with the reference value within resolution, the capacitance control section outputs a value in accordance with the capacitance instruction signal. This value is sequentially read out through a horizontal reading-out section.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1996Date of Patent: March 13, 2001Assignee: Hamamatsu Photonics K. Patent number: 6202082Abstract: In a trunk transmission network for transmitting information signals between nodes via paths, flexible path operation is achieved by setting up paths between source nodes and destination nodes after pre-classifying paths into a higher service class in which any loss of information occurring in that path is restored, and a lower service class which permits loss of information to occur in the path. The flexible operation is further achieved by arranging for each node, when it acts as a source node, to recognize the service class of the information signal it is sending to a destination node, and to select a path corresponding to that service class.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1997Date of Patent: March 13, 2001Assignee: Nippon Telegraph and Telephone CorporationInventors: Masahito Tomizawa, Shinji Matsuoka, Yoshihiko Uematsu
