Abstract: The present invention relates to a first group of novel genes, here identified as “genomic address messenger” or “GAM” genes, and a second group of novel operon-like genes, here identified as “genomic record” or “GR” genes. GAM genes selectively inhibit translation of known ‘target’ genes, many of which are known to be involved in various diseases. Nucleic acid molecules are provided respectively encoding 20600 GAM genes, and 6635 GR genes, as are vectors and probes both comprising the nucleic acid molecules, and methods and systems for detecting GAM and GR genes and specific functions and utilities thereof, for detecting expression of GAM and GR genes, and for selectively enhancing and selectively inhibiting translation of the respective target genes thereof.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a group of novel viral RNA regulatory genes, here identified as “viral genomic address messenger genes” or “VGAM genes”, and as “genomic record” or “GR” genes. VGAM genes selectively inhibit translation of known host target genes, and are believed to represent a novel pervasive viral attack mechanism. GR genes encode an operon-like cluster of VGAM genes. VGAM and viral GR genes may therefore be useful in diagnosing, preventing and treating viral disease. Several nucleic acid molecules are provided respectively encoding several VGAM genes, as are vectors and probes, both comprising the nucleic acid molecules, and methods and systems for detecting VGAM genes, and for counteracting their activity.

Abstract: A latching system includes a rotatable cam formed of substantially symmetric pieces with a cable, connected to oppositely disposed bolts, extending therethrough. The configuration of the cam is such that when rotated, the cable is pulled in both directions with respect to each of the bolts, allowing for the bolts to move so as to disengage from their respective strikers, unlatching the system.

Abstract: The present invention relates to process and methods, as well as compositions and systems for use in laundering smoke-damaged garments. In particular, the present invention utilizes ozonated water to treat the smoke-damaged garments.

Preferably, the rabies vaccinated pet wears a single multi-purpose tag which communicates both the pet's rabies vaccination information and information for reuniting the pet with its owner. Rabies vaccination is not a prerequisite, however, and almost any relatively unique identifier will work, including microchip numbers, tattoos, other types of identification tags, etc. The system also allows an owner to license the pet with a participating municipality.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods are directed to a perfusion culture system in which a rotating bioreactor is used to grow cells in a liquid culture medium, while these cells are attached to an adhesive-treated porous surface. As a result of this arrangement and its rotation, the attached cells divide, with one cell remaining attached to the substrate, while the other cell, a newborn cell is released. These newborn cells are of approximately the same age, that are collected upon leaving the bioreactor. The populations of newborn cells collected are of synchronous and are minimally, if at all, disturbed metabolically.
