  • Patent number: 6425449
Abstract: The drilling apparatus includes a wire line core barrel head assembly that has a latch body seatable on a drill string landing shoulder and retained in a latch seated position by a latch assembly spring urged to a latch seated position, fluid seals on the latch body to facilitate fluidly propelling the head assembly in an upward direction, valve mechanism in a latch body bypass channel to restrict fluid flow therethrough to provide a signal of the latch body seating on the landing shoulder and then opening together with being retractable to an open position by a latch retractor prior to the latch body being retracted and second valve mechanism to block axial outward flow in the bypass channel. The fluid seals are mounted to a latch body adaptor that may be removed to convert from an up-hole to a down-hole assembly.

  • Patent number: 5394400
Abstract: A multiaddress control system for remotely controlling accessories in a vehicle utilizes a simple encoder and decoders to perform functions previously performed by microprocessors and bus drivers. A transmitter station has an encoder for station addresses and commands that are received from manual switches. The addresses and commands are sent to all of the receiver stations simultaneously on a two-wire common signal bus. The receiver that has been addressed accepts the command and acts upon it. Every word is transmitted twice, and the receivers compare the two transmitted words. Only if the words match does an addressed receiver carry out the command.

  • Patent number: 5328551
Abstract: A method of making a foil-type electrical resistance strain gage having a gage factor of at least 4. A PtW foil is adhesively bonded to a polyimide substrate with an FEP adhesive cured under heat and pressure. The foil is spin-coated with a positive photoresist, masked, and exposed to ultraviolet light. The exposed photoresist is then developed, permitting wet etching of the foil to form a gage pattern on the substrate, which is then preferably cured.

  • Patent number: 5308957
Abstract: A control system for dual oven resistance heaters (BAKE, BROIL) has opposite sides of each heater connected to a common side of one of a pair of SPDT switching relays such that no current flows to the heaters when both relays are in a common state of energization/de-energization. A microcomputer receives a signal from the oven temperature sensing and signals separate switching devices to selectively energize/de-energize one of the relays to switch on the desired heater. Separate comparators also receive the temperature sensor signal; and, in the event of failure of the microcomputer or switching devices with a heater "ON", the comparator is operative to bring the relays to a common state, preventing current flow to either heater.

  • Patent number: 5299592
Abstract: An electrically operated valve assembly having a plastic body with a solenoid coil attached for moving an armature valve member for effecting flow from the vale inlet to outlet. In one embodiment the armature is a pilot valve slidably movable in a guide over which the solenoid is received. A spring loaded check valve in the guide releases over pressure within the valving chamber. In another embodiment a spring loaded check valve in the body inlet passage releases over pressure to a bypass passage to the outlet. In a third embodiment a slug having a spring loaded poppet relief valve is welded over an opening in the inlet passage at generally right angles to the inlet fitting to provide direct relief of over pressure in the inlet.

  • Patent number: 5272892
Abstract: A control system for a washing machine having a transducer mounted on the exterior of the washing receptacle wall and operable to generate acoustic vibrations in the receptacle wall during fluid filling of the receptacle. A receiver detects sound waves within the receptacle generated by the wall vibrations and generates in fill signal indicative of the sound waves. Circuitry is provided for analyzing the fill signal and determining from the acoustic signature of the fill signal the occurrence of total immersion of articles in the fluid; and, the circuitry sends a signal which is operable to then shut off the fluid fill valve.

  • Patent number: 5269459
Abstract: A refrigerant expansion valve has a pressure-responsive diaphragm forming a wall of a fluid filled chamber. The diaphragm is connected to one end of an actuator rod incorporating a hollow with a closed end opposite and operative to move a valve member for controlling flow between an inlet and outlet. The actuator member has the hollow communicating with the fluid filled chamber and its external surface exposed to return refrigerant flow. Fluid communications between the hollow of the actuator member and the fluid filled chamber is restricted by an orifice in a plug in the open end of the hollow to dampen the effects of sudden temperature changes of the return flow over the hollow. Preferably, the actuator member, plug, and diaphragm are commonly clamped, sealed, and welded together.

  • Patent number: 5267489
Abstract: A drive axle assembly and subassembly for use in tandem driving axle arrangements has a removable drive pinion shaft subassembly. An input shaft is journalled in an axle housing and is coupled to an output shaft also journalled in the housing by an inter-axle differential for torque sharing of driveline power. An input gear receives power from the inter-axle differential and drives a countershaft gear mounted on the drive pinion shaft. The drive pinion shaft is journalled in primary and secondary bearings which straddle the countershaft gear and are mounted on a removable cage which substantially surrounds the countershaft gear. The drive pinion shaft with countershaft gear is assembled into the primary and secondary bearings on the cage and is shimmed between the bearings to form a pinion shaft and subassembly. A threaded nut is torqued over the end of the drive primary shaft to retain and preload the drive pinion shaft in the bearings.
