  • Patent number: 6572671
Abstract: In the invention, a stainless steel powder of the desired composition is either directly mixed with a h-BN powder, compressed and sintered or the stainless steel powder is compressed, impregnated with a solution containing h-BN and then sintered or compressed, sintered and then impregnated with a solution containing h-BN. The sintered bodies in all the aforementioned cases may be resin impregnated. Steel body formation may be done by traditional press compacting or, alternatively, by injection molding steel powder in molds (metal injection molding, MIM).

  • Patent number: 6553886
Abstract: A hide splitting machine according to the invention has two pivot arms, mounted on modified journals at each end of a rubber roller, that are connected to two ring roller swivel arms attached to each end of the ring roller. The ring roller swivel arms connected to the pivot arms allow constant radial distance movement of the ring roller along the circumference of the rubber roller. Therefore, the ring roller can be retracted or moved away automatically, without possibility of mechanical damage, from the razor sharp band knife and ring jaw insert edge. The automatic retraction of the ring roller a preset distance allows splitting machine operators to easily access the ring jaw insert for safe, quick and efficient manual cleaning of the ring jaw insert edge. The automatic retraction of the ring roller further eliminates physical handling and/or manual removal of the ring roller from the splitting machine during the ring jaw insert edge cleaning process.

  • Patent number: 6527209
Abstract: A shredding apparatus comprises a plurality of rotatable rolls, each one of the rolls being rotatable around an axis of rotation in a first direction of rotation or a second direction of rotation. Each roll further has a plurality of angled replaceable teeth, which are arranged in at least one first set of teeth arranged in a first helical line across an outer surface of each roll, circumferentially spaced apart a first angle and facing the first direction of rotation. Further, at least one second set of teeth is arranged in a second helical line across the outer face of each roll, circumferentially spaced apart the first angle and facing the second direction of rotation. The first helical line and the second helical line of teeth are arranged to axially (in the longitudinal direction of the rolls) move material to be shredded when the rolls are rotated.

  • Patent number: 6502797
Abstract: A portable motorcycle support stand has a main member with a first protrusion arranged at one end of the main member and a second protrusion arranged at an opposite end of the main member. The first protrusion and the second protrusion protrude in the same general direction. A movable cross-member is arranged on the first protrusion at one end of the movable cross-member and on the second protrusion at an opposite end of the movable cross-member. Retainers are used to secure the movable cross-member at a desired position from the main member, to thereby set the height of the stand. Further, an arm is movable on the first protrusion between a storage position, in which a longitudinal direction of the arm is generally parallel to a longitudinal direction of the main member, and an operating position, in which the longitudinal direction of the arm is pivoted out at an angle from the longitudinal direction of the main member.

  • Patent number: 6500758
Abstract: A method for the selective removal of the metal film layer accumulated upon a photoresist layer during processing of substrates using a stream of carbon dioxide spray without disturbing conductor portions is provided. A constant stream of high pressure CO2 snow is applied to the metal film layer thereby rapidly cooling the metal layer on top of said resist layer causing it to shrink rapidly, and to debond, and peel from the photoresist layer underneath. The temperature of the substrate is raised and maintained at significantly higher than room temperature. Continuing the application of the CO2 spray causes thermal shock to the photoresist under the metalized layer causing large cracks in the remaining metal layer portions, said cracks typically including at least one loose metal edge. The CO2 spray is continually applied to the cracks thereby peeling away the remaining metal portions, leaving the exposed photoresist and underlying surface features.

  • Patent number: 6495647
Abstract: A new class of initiators for inducing the cationic polymerization of olefins was discovered. These initiators, in conjunction with Lewis acids as coinitiators, effectively initiate the carbocationic polymerization of olefins. The new initiators are epoxides with the general formula where R1, R2 and R3 are hydrogen, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl groups, and can be the same or different, and i is a positive whole number. The Lewis acid has the general formula of MtXn where M is titanium, aluminum, boron or tin, X is a halogen, an alkyl or an alcoxy or a mixture thereof. The process is a carbocationic process, which can be living or non-living, at a temperature of from about 0 to −80 C. The polymer produced can be a homo- or copolymer (random or block) carrying hydroxy functional groups.

  • Patent number: 6495238
Abstract: The banner material is comprised of flexible polyester fabric which comes in a rolled elongated sheet. A number of grommets are placed along the top and bottom edges. The grommets along the top edge are aligned with the grommets along the bottom edge and are placed along the top and bottom edges of the banner material alternately a first distance apart and a second substantially smaller distance apart. The user of the banner can customize the length of the banner by cutting from top edge to bottom edge between the grommets, preferably between the grommets spaced the second substantially smaller distance apart in order to avoid wasting any excess banner material.

  • Patent number: 6443196
Abstract: The two boom members and hydraulic cylinders of a knuckle boom tree harvesting machine are so arranged and proportioned that with a single control movement during reaching and retracting actions the working tool head is made to travel in an approximately horizontal path. The cylinders and control valve are so connected that during horizontal reaching action load-supporting pressurized oil from a collapsing cylinder is not required to be dumped to the reservoir in the conventional heat generating manner, but is rather shunted directly to an extending cylinder where it continues to do useful load support work. Energy waste to hydraulic oil heat and fuel consumption is significantly reduced. Although these advances have been particularly developed for disc saw felling and stroke delimbing of trees they can also be applied to other knuckle boom applications where horizontal reaching is a major function.

  • Patent number: 6434978
Abstract: A ring roller, used in the hide splitting process as a hide transport device, is described that is continuously self cleaning and which provides a constant gap between outer rings of a ring roller. The ring roller is capable of directing pressurized water, or other gaseous and/or liquid fluid from the internal to the external surface of the ring roller. The constant supply of pressurized water, or other gaseous and/or liquid fluid from the internal to the external surface of the ring roller prevents the entry of lime solution, flesh, fat, grease, and other materials that result from the hide splitting process, into the ring roller. Therefore, the ring roller constantly and continuously provides optimum, consistent, high quality performance. Maintenance downtime for the ring roller is minimized. The ring roller, properly operated, will perform to expected design and operational parameters.
