  • Patent number: 5606318
Abstract: An apparatus converts m-bit digital data having a scale factor of K.sub.1 to n-bit digital data having a scale factor of K.sub.2. The apparatus comprises a digital to analog converter which receives the m-bit digital data, for outputting a first analog signal representative of a value associated with the m-bit digital data. An amplifier receives the first analog signal multiplies it by a factor, and outputs a second analog signal. The factor of the amplifier is K.sub.2 /K.sub.1, such that the second analog signal has a value with the scale factor of K.sub.2 associated therewith. An analog to digital converter receives the second analog signal, and converts the second analog signal to the n-bit digital data. The n-bit digital data has the scale factor of K.sub.2 associated therewith, the value representative of the n-bit digital data being essentially equal in the example of the present application to the value representative of the m-bit digital data, however, this is not always a requirement.

  • Patent number: 5424950
Abstract: In a servo loop closure for an aircraft control surface, surface position from the control surface synchro is utilized to augment the servo motor rate feedback so as to reduce limit cycle oscillation. The high frequency content of surface position is suppressed by substituting a percentage of the low frequency content thereof for the same percentage of low frequency servo motor rate. This arrangement reduces control column activity normally associated with high effectiveness ratios of surface position for servo motor rate substitution.

  • Patent number: 5404766
Abstract: An apparatus and method for displaying an engine performance parameter are provided wherein the scale for reading the value of the engine performance parameter is rotated as required in order that a pointer showing the value of the engine performance parameter appears at a desired clock position on a display when the value of the engine performance parameter is equal to a predetermined value, such as a takeoff thrust value.

  • Patent number: 5391934
Abstract: A driver apparatus for driving one or more electrical loads includes an oscillator for providing an input signal. An amplifier amplifies the input signal. A power transformer has a primary winding for receiving the amplified input signal and at least one secondary winding for providing a drive signal to drive one or more electrical loads. The driver apparatus may include a center tap for the secondary windings or a precision resistive network for providing a pair of diametrically symmetrical drive signals at each secondary winding. A drive signal from one of the secondary windings is compared to a reference signal in an automatic gain control loop for application to the oscillator. An average drive signal could also be derived from one output from each secondary winding to be compared to the reference signal for forming the gain automatic control loop.

  • Patent number: 5384875
Abstract: A fiber optic coupler includes at least two optical fibers having a coupled region and at least one lead portion extending therefrom. The optical fibers have a protective jacket thereon. The protective jacket is removed from the coupled region and from a region of the at least one lead portion adjacent the coupled region resulting in a jacketless coupled region, at least one jacketless lead portion and at least one jacketed lead portion. The fiber optic coupler further includes a protective body having a receiving space therein for receiving the coupled region. The protective body has at least one entrance from which said jacketed lead portion emerges. A rejacket material at least partially surrounds a length of the jacketless lead portion adjacent the jacketed lead portion resulting in a rejacketed lead portion.

  • Patent number: 5382954
Abstract: An aircraft indicating system for displaying a resolution advisory signal from a Traffic Advisory and Collision Avoidance System provides an indicating pitch attitude symbol to the pilot engendering an instinctive response to avoid a collision. A driving circuit converts a TCAS signal in the form of a vertical speed command to a pitch command for energizing the indicating symbol by effecting a vertical displacement thereof in accordance with the guidance resolution advisory. The display signal is generated in accordance with the relationship: ##EQU1## where: .PHI.=aircraft roll attitude, limited to + or - 30.degree..THETA..sub.CMD =commanded pitch attitude defining the upper and lower pitch limits of the resolution advisory symbology.THETA..sub.EXIST =current pitch angleV.sub.ZTCAS =TCAS vertical speed commandV.sub.ZEXIST =current vertical speedV.sub.T =true airspeedK=conversion constant.

  • Patent number: 5371519
Abstract: An image processing apparatus processes image data representative of an image for a plurality of pixels of a display. The pixels have positions designated by locational addresses. The image data includes data elements and a first and second positional address for each data element corresponding to the locational addresses indicating to which pixel each data element corresponds. The image processing apparatus includes a device for sorting the data elements according to each of the first positional addresses. The device generates an output including the data elements and the second positional addresses of each data element in a first positional address order. An additional device sorts the output for the first positional addresses according to the second positional addresses. The additional device generates a display output of the data elements in a first positional address/second positional address order.
