  • Patent number: 4262640
Abstract: A valve selector including a telescoping spring capsule subassembly having a dual retainer ring arrangement for limiting the maximum extended length thereof. A cup-shaped spring retaining member has an internal groove formed near its rim and a cup-shaped spring receiving member has an external groove formed near its outer open end. The spring retaining member is partially received over the spring receiving member with the external groove axially aligned over the internal groove. A compression spring is captured between the opposed bottom surfaces of the retainer members. An inner retaining ring is received in the external groove and an outer retaining ring is received in the internal groove. The outer ring has an internal diameter sized less than the outer diameter of the inner retaining ring for providing a radial overlap condition. The maximum spacing of the spring receiving and spring retaining members is limited by abutment of adjacent axial faces of the inner and outer retaining rings.

  • Patent number: 4262178
Abstract: A calibration mechanism for a pressure switch of the type utilizing a rotary cam which controls the setting of a spring-biased plunger to establish pressure levels required to actuate the switch. The calibration mechanism includes a support bracket mounted on the switch and a cam assembly including an integrally formed cam member and camshaft. A plunger adjustment mechanism includes a pivotally mounted lever having a cam follower in following engagement with the cam. The support bracket defines a bore adapted to receive the camshaft. The cam has a range of rotational orientations in which the cam follower engages the operative portion of the cam profile. The camshaft includes a projection extending radially therefrom which is axially disposed from the cam a predetermined distance greater than the axial length of the bore in the support bracket. The support bracket defines a slot extending from the bore.

  • Patent number: 4260136
Abstract: A suspension hook assembly for a hoist in which the shank of the hook is received between an assembled pair of half-cylindrical members held together by a ring. A pin member received between spaced frame members of the hoist extends through aligned holes in the assembled half-cylindrical members, and the ring is positioned axially between the pin and outwardly directed projections formed on the half-cylindrical members. The hook then pivots about a first axis through its shank, and the hook assembly pivots about a second, perpendicular, axis through the pin.

  • Patent number: 4256070
Abstract: The actuator disclosed herein uses cyclic forces in a valve gear train of an internal combustion engine to selectively switch a pair of valve disablers between valve enabling and disabling positions. When the disablers are in the valve enabling position, rocker arm fulcrums are latched in a fixed position. When the disablers are in the disabling position, the rocker arm fulcrums are unlatched to allow sliding movement of the fulcrums. The actuator employs a spring which is preloaded to positions for switching the disablers between their enabling and disabling positions in response to movement of the rocker arms which are moved by cyclic forces from a camshaft.

  • Patent number: 4254749
Abstract: A hydraulic advance device for selectively transmitting applied forces to a fuel injector of an internal combustion engine. The device is operative to select a normal or advanced timing of the fuel injection. An outer cylindrical body (66) is mounted in the upper end of a fuel injector adapter. An inner body (108) is slidably received in an outer body and a reaction member (103) and pressure responsive plunger (117) are slidably received in a bore formed in the inner body. The plunger and the bore cooperate to define a fluid chamber (128). A one-way valve (132) in the chamber permits fluid above a predetermined pressure applied during the advanced stage of the fuel injection cycle to enter the chamber which prevents movement of the plunger relative to the inner body member.

  • Patent number: 4253491
Abstract: A fluid flow regulating valve is inserted in line with a fluid conducting medium to regulate the flow therethrough over a widely varying range of pressure differentials across the valve. The valve is constructed of a body portion having a fluid passageway therethrough terminating at one end in a land having an empirically derived, compound curved section. A compliant reed is affixed to the body portion adjacent the land and operates to press against and conform with the land in response to increasing fluid pressure differential across the reed whereby the rate of fluid flow through the valve remains substantially constant. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, a second similarly shaped land is provided adjacent the reed and opposite the other land to provide bidirectional flow control. The lands are integral portions of the body portion of the valve which is constructed of molded plastic or the like. The reed comprises thin metal shimstock or the like which has been heat staked to the body portion.

  • Patent number: 4253807
Abstract: A fluid pressure operated wheel motor is disclosed of the type including a stationary housing assembly (11) and a rotatable housing assembly (13), which includes a gerotor displacement mechanism (29). The gerotor ring (47) is part of the rotatable housing assembly and rotates, while the gerotor star (49) is connected by a dogbone shaft (57) to the stationary housing assembly and only orbits. The dogbone shaft defines an axial bore (67), and the stationary housing defines a pair of main fluid passages (71 and 73) which cooperate with a plurality of fluid passages (91 and 93) defined by the rotatable housing assembly to form commutating valving. In either direction of operation, the system fluid flows through the chamber (19) in which the dogbone is disposed. The system fluid is divided into two portions, with one portion flowing through one spline connection (59 and 63), and the other portion flowing through the axial bore and the other spline connection (61 and 65).

  • Patent number: 4254312
Abstract: A device for filling a pneumatic tire and sensing the air pressure therein has a check valve disposed within a valve stem and a pressure sensing switch which is temperature compensated to adjust for air pressure changes within the tire due to changes in ambient temperature. Substantially perfect compensation can be achieved, within a limited range of operation, whereby the set point pressure versus temperature characteristic will track with the related tire pressure versus temperature characteristic. A manual set point adjustment feature is provided whereby the switch can be calibrated after it is assembled within a wheel and pneumatic tire. The switch can also be employed independently of, as well as in conjunction with, the check valve.

  • Patent number: 4253382
Abstract: A vehicle hydraulic system is disclosed of the type including a steering control valve (29), a brake system (31), and an auxiliary load circuit (65). Fluid flow to these load circuits is controlled by a flow control valve assembly (11) including a priority spool valve (85) which controls the flow of fluid from the inlet port (13) to the priority fluid chamber (75). Fluid flows from the priority fluid chamber to the steering control valve and the brake load system, in parallel, and at equal levels of priority. A shuttle valve assembly (83) receives a steering load signal by means of a load signal line (44) and a brake load signal from the load signal chamber (111), and transmits the higher of the two load signals into the load signal chamber (93) which biases the priority spool valve toward a position to permit a greater flow of fluid into the priority fluid chamber.

  • Patent number: RE30522
Abstract: A rotor is provided for use in a wheel speed sensor assembly for sensing angular velocity of a wheel about a wheel support. The rotor is adapted to be mounted to a wheel for rotation therewith about an axis of rotation. The rotor includes a wall portion which extends in an axial direction coaxially about the axis of rotation and terminates in an annular edge portion. The rotor face has ripples or undulations formed therein which define an annular array of lands and recesses for providing wheel speed information to a sensor during wheel rotation. Also, the undulations provide a rotor face structure exhibiting a high degree of stiffness to resist deflection by forces applied to the rotor face. The wall portion also serves as an oil slinger to route oil or grease derived from a wheel hub or the like away from proximately located brake shoes. The rotor may be mounted to a wheel, such as to the brake drum mounting flange, by means of an annular flange which extends radially outward from the wall portion.
