  • Patent number: 5273565
Abstract: A meltblown web is composed of fibers having a narrow fiber size distribution (expressed as % coefficient of variation of the average fiber diameter) and low packing density. The web is characterized as a soft lofty web and exhibits exceptional filtration capability. The web preferably comprises fibers having an average fiber size of between 3 and 10 microns and a packing density of between 5 to 15%, and a CV of 15 to 40%.

  • Patent number: 5236641
Abstract: A meltblowing system with a modular die design and on-line monitoring of web properties is described. The modular die consists of individually fed side-by-side meltblowing units. Automated control of the polymer feed rates to the units have been shown to produce a web with excellent uniformity of basis weight. The die also features a valve assembly for minimizing polymer afterflow and die tip plugging.

  • Patent number: 5212208
Abstract: A foamable composition for in situ expansion for example in a car pillar includes a base polymer derived of ethylene and an olefinically unsaturated acrylic ester with an M1 of from 0.1 to 6 and containing from 10 to 40% of ester derived units. The composition is foamed and cross-linked to adhere to the car pillar interior and provide closed cell foam acting as a moisture-sound barrier.

  • Patent number: 5177043
Abstract: This invention relates to a catalytic component for the polymerization of .alpha.-olefins and provides a catalytic component of magnesium support type capable of exhibiting a high stereoregularity while maintaining an improved strength as well as a high catalytic activity. The features thereof consist in a catalyst component for the polymerization of .alpha.-olefins obtained by contacting (A) a solid component comprising, as essential components, magnesium, titanium, a halogen and an electron-donating compound with (D) an olefin in the presence of (B) a trialkylaluminum and (C) a dimethoxy group-containing compound represented by the general formula R.sup.1 R.sup.2 Si(OCH.sub.3).sub.2 where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are, same or different, aliphatic hydrocarbon groups with 1 to 10 carbon atoms and having a volume, calculated by the quantum chemistry calculation, of 230 to 500 .ANG..sup.3 and an electron density of oxygen atoms in the methoxy group, calculated similarly, ranging from 0.685 to 0.800 A. U.

  • Patent number: 5145747
Abstract: A polymer composition, for use in making film to wrap warm rubber bales, includes an ethylene copolymer and a minor proportion by weight of a low molecular weight ethylene-based polymer. The comonomer is preferably vinyl acetate. Lower VICAT softening points can be achieved together with good non-stick characteristics at higher temperatures.

  • Patent number: 5126096
Abstract: An apparatus and method for the production of polymeric films by a blown film process is disclosed. Polymeric films produced from crystallizable linear polymers are extruded through a die extruder, expanded by the injection of a gas inside the tubular film, cooled at the point of extrusion from the die, and further cooled at the point of maximal expansion or the frost line to produce a film having substantially enhanced optical characteristics.
