    Abstract: A more precise determination of bulk formation density is attainable using a pulsed ?-? density tool and simultaneously compensating for interactions due to photoelectric effect and density variations caused by standoff. A source directs energetic particles at a formation having a known photoelectric factor and electron density. One or more photons either emitted or deflected from the formation are captured at a first or second detector, respectively spaced at first and second distances from the source, and separated from each other by a third distance. First and second total energies of the photons respectively striking the first and second detectors are measured during a time interval. A first filter is disposed between the first detector and formation effective to cause Pe response to match standoff influence, thereby compensating for both effects simultaneously. In some embodiments, a second filter is provided between the second detector and formation.

The mixture is moved through a spectral analyzer cell in the fluids analyzer to produce a time-series of optical density measurements at a plurality of wavelengths.     Abstract: This invention relates to compositions and methods for treating subterranean formations, in particular, oilfield stimulation compositions and methods using water-in-water polymer emulsions to uniformly dissolve a rheologically active polymer, such as a thickener or friction reducer, in the treatment fluid. The emulsions have a low viscosity and are easily pumped for mixing into a treatment fluid, where upon dilution with an aqueous medium, the polymer is easily hydrated without forming fish-eyes. The partitioning agent in the water-in-water emulsion does not generally affect the rheology of the treatment fluid. The invention also relates to further processing of the emulsion by wet grinding, high shear mixing and/or heating to enhance the hydration rate in the preparation of the well treatment fluid.

A surface interval is measured between the transmitting of seismic energy from the surface seismic source and first arrival of the seismic energy from the downhole seismic source using the one or more surface receivers. Travel time can be calculated by subtracting the delay interval from the surface interval.

    Abstract: A method for removing preexisting filtercake from a portion of a subterranean formation penetrated by a wellbore is carried out by providing water-degradable particles formed from a solid polymeric acid precursor material that is capable of a degrading to acid for reacting with materials of the filtercake. A slurry is formed from the particles with a carrier fluid. The slurry of particles is introduced into the formation through the wellbore and allowed to degrade to form acid, whereby the formed acid facilitates decomposition of preexisting filtercake material. In certain applications, the water-degradable particles may also be used in combination with non-water-degradable particles, which may be used for forming a gravel pack. The water-degradable particles may also be used to reduce fluid loss temporarily to areas of the formation immediately surrounding the wellbore.
