Abstract: Stable, hydrocarbon-soluble organobarium-, organocalcium-, and organostrontium-containing polymerization initiators are prepared by reacting certain calcium, barium or strontium alkoxides with organolithium, diorganomagnesium or triorganoaluminum compounds and combinations thereof. By way of illustration, the barium alkoxides soluble in hydrocarbon or chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents are prepared by reacting a suspension of barium amide in a hydrocarbon or a chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent with stoichiometric quantities of certain alcohols, alone or in the presence of chelating tertiary di- or polyamines. Alcohols suitable for the preparation of hydrocarbon- or chlorinated hydrocarbon-soluble barium alkoxides are C.sub.4 -C.sub.12 aliphatic and cycloaliphatic alcohols possessing alkyl branches at the one or two-positions, or mixtures of such alcohols. Other suitable alcohols are 2-alkoxy-1-alkanols and .gamma.-alkoxy-poly(ethyleneoxy)-1-ethanols.

Abstract: An attachment for a laboratory hood having an opening leading to a work area includes a housing that has a lower open end and opening means extending the entire length along an upper portion of the housing with fans located in the housing between the opening means and the lower open end. The attachment also has baffle means for diverting the air flow through the housing and diffuser means to distribute the air equally along the entire length of the unit.

Abstract: A check valve includes an elongated housing having an inlet port at the upper end and an outlet port at a lower end and a float movable therein. An exterior valve seat surrounds the outlet and a valve stem connected to the float extends through the outlet port and has a valve element on the outer end which cooperates with the valve seat.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for the high-speed production of seamless metal container bodies is disclosed utilizing a reciprocating ram which forces a relatively shallow metal cup through a die assembly to iron the sidewall of said cup to form an elongated ironed container body, the ram is supported and critically-aligned by at least two stationary guide means along its length and a slide blank means rigidly secured to its rearward end, the slide block means having opposed hydrostatic pressure pads to provide constant critical alignment of the rear end of the ram and prevent misalignment of the ram relative to the die assembly to avoid producing container bodies of overly-inconsistent length.

Abstract: A control system for controlling movement of damper blades in a damper housing being open and closed positions consists of a support member having a driving link movable thereon and moved through a drive means. The driving link is biased to a closed position by a spring and is moved to an open position through the drive means, which is disengaged from the driving link through a power-operated member. The drive motor and the power-operated member connected to a power source through an electric circuit which incorporates switches and sensors that will automatically cause the damper blades to close under preselected conditions and a manual-override for remote-control and for manually overriding the temperature-sensing mechanism when desired.

Abstract: A fast-forwarding and rewinding levers operating mechanism in a tape recorder comprisig an FF (fast forward) lever element having formed therein a hook-shaped guide recess, a REW (rewinding) lever element superposed on the FF lever element and which has formed therein a hook-shaped recess so positioned in a direction opposite to said guide recess in the FF lever element as to intersect the latter guide recess, an oscillating member located under said FF and REW lever elements and having an oscillating portion provided at the intersection between said two guide recesses, and a transmission means to oscillate said oscillating member for a rotary medium to engage a reel base, said oscillating portion of the oscillating member being oscillated, by pressing said FF or REW lever element, to put said transmission means into action, thus revolving said reel base for FF or REW operation.

Abstract: A barbecue grill includes a bowl and a cover each having vents with the cover having a cover and the unit having the locking bar that locks with the gripping handle in a closed position. The locking bar has vent closures that close the vents in the bowl in a closed position. The bowl is supported by three U-shaped legs identical in construction that are secured to the bowl by fasteners and the fasteners provide support points for a fuel support grid within the bowl.

Abstract: A multi-terminal connector unit includes a block having a plurality of spaced terminal pins extending from a surface thereof and each terminal pin is surrounded by a socket that extends to an opposite surface of the block. The bottom of each socket has at least one opening extending to the adjacent surface of the block to provide a flow-through or drain path for cleaning liquid used to clean the socket and associated PC board.

Abstract: A cup feeding mechanism for a bodymaker includes a guide chute defining a vertical path with a stop located at the lower end of the path defining a transfer area. The stop has a specifically configured area for receiving each cup and defining a fixed position for the cup in the transfer area. A drive member is reciprocated transversely of the path and picks up cups from the transfer area and positively drives them into alignment with a ram that extends perpendicular to the axis of the path so that the cups are maintained in accurate alignment with the ram prior to being transferred through the bodymaker.

Abstract: An attachment for use with a tool having a cutting surface on one end of a bar consists of a collar that has an opening corresponding substantially to the cross-sectional configuration of the bar and is frictionally supported thereon in any angular or axially-orientation. The collar has a support opening which receives a cutter insert that has its inner end supported on an abutment and is releasably retained within the support opening by a recessed fastener.

Abstract: A cutting tool for forming a tapered bore in a workpiece includes a pair of cutting blades pivotally supported in a slot at one end of a member and pivoted by an axially movable expander. In one embodiment, the member also has a drill bit configuration on the end of the member with the slot to initially produce the bore.

Abstract: A germicidal solution effective for disinfection of solid surfaces to destroy or to inactivate bacteria, microorganisms, protozoa, molds and viruses and the like contaminating said surfaces which comprises a polyvinylpyrrolide-aqueous solution of elemental iodine, a water-soluble iodide, and potassium bromide, said solution containing a sufficiently high concentration of elemental iodine to effect said destruction or inactivation.

Abstract: A still camera includes a housing having a film chamber for receiving a film cartridge having a film leader with the chamber defining a film path communicating with an edge of the housing through a channel. The film chamber also has a cavity at one end of the film path for drop-in loading of the cartridge in the direction of the plane of the film and a cavity at the opposite end housing a take-up spool. An imaging area is located at one side of the film path and a pressure plate is generally aligned with the imaging area on opposite side of the film path and biased towards the imaging area. A mechanism is provided for moving the pressure plate away from the imaging area to accommodate film loading and unloading, as well as film rewind.

Abstract: In a head shift mechanism in a tape player to shift a head to a reproducing position and hold it there by means of a solenoid driven by a driving signal from a solenoid driving device, an improvement comprising a solenoid driving signal generator, a counter connected to the solenoid driving signal generator for counting up solenoid driving signals from the solenoid driving signal generator, and a head shift stopping device connected to the counter for receiving count completion signal from the counter to actuate to stop action of the head shift solenoid.

Abstract: A still camera includes a housing having a film chamber that is open to one side of the camera housing and is designed for drop-in loading of the film cartridge and leader. A channel leads from this side of the camera to the film path and a cavity is located at one end of the film path for receiving the film cartridge while a cavity is located at the other end of the film path which houses a take-up spool. The take-up spool has a slot for receiving the film leader and the camera incorporates drive mechanism for automatically aligning the slot of the take-up spool with the channel when the chamber door is opened. The drive mechanism forms part of the film transport system.

Abstract: An outdoor cooking kettle consisting of a generally hemispherical lower portion having a cooking surface therein and a generally hemispherical cover enclosing the cooking surface with the lower portion having diametrically-opposed handles extending outwardly from the surface thereof. The cooking kettle incorporates an arcuate member that is secured to the diametrically-opposed handles and defines a generally arcuate upwardly-opening slot receiving the cover and storing the cover in a generally upright position.

Abstract: A plastic bobbin consisting of a hollow cone defined by a thin-walled sheath includes an inner skeletal frame of longitudinally-spaced circumferential ribs and radially-spaced longitudinal ribs defining an inner support surface for a mandrel with a sheath having segments of varying wall thickness and the outer surface having a constant taper with respect to the bobbin axis. Some of the longitudinally-extending ribs may be partial ribs defined in each of the segments.

Abstract: A modular system for producing triple-necked open ended containers includes three substantially identical necking modules each having the same frame and identical rotatable turrets which have a plurality of identical necking stations around the periphery. Each necking station includes an annular necking die and a platform and punch which are cam-operated to move towards and away from each other and are maintained in engagement with the cams by pressurized fluid. Each necking station also has a container pressurizing means in the form of an annular chamber which acts as a holding chamber prior to transmitting the pressurized fluid into the container.
