  • Patent number: 5026014
Abstract: Two free-standing tubular columns (1, 2) having slots (3), parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tube, for locating extension arms or supporting arrangements are connected to one another according to the modular construction principle by means of a cross connection (4). The cross connection (4) of two connecting tubes (5, 6) contain, at their ends, one attachment housing (8) each, in which, on the one hand, these two connecting tubes (5, 6) are held and, on the other hand, a clamping bracket (13) having catch projections (16) is accommodated. The catch projections (16) are intended for engaging into the slots (3) of the tubular columns (1, 2). Each attachment housing (8) is provided at the front face with a surface contour complementary to the outer contour of the colunm, and a clamping screw (17) preloading the clamping bracket (13) against the attachment housing brings about an applied-pressure connection between the attachment housings (8) and the tubular columns (1, 2).

  • Patent number: 5016571
Abstract: A birdhouse includes a one-way viewing wall or window which allows the birds to be viewed inside the birdhouse without allowing them to see their observer. The birdhouse can be mounted on a window sill such that the one-way viewing wall is adjacent to a window pane, thereby allowing any number of observers to simultaneously view the birds in their natural environment without intruding on their privacy. Thus, the birdhouse functions as an observatory.

  • Patent number: 4995972
Abstract: Disclosed herein are a method and apparatus for removing liquid from a permeable material, such as slurries, sludges, porous solids and permeable foams. The method and apparatus involve constraining the material to be deliquified such that the material interfaces with at least one surface which is permeable to the liquid to be removed and then heating the material at one or more locations remote from the permeable surface or surfaces. Such constraining and heating of the material causes the in situ vaporization of the liquid in the vicinity of the remote location or locations. The vaporized liquid expands and forces at least some of the remaining unvaporized liquid through the permeable surface or surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4993593
Abstract: A flowable medium, such as a liquid, a semi-liquid, or a liquid containing particulate matter, can be automatically dispensed in a premeasured amount or in a continuous stream. When the flowable medium is being dispensed in a premeasured amount, such amount is isolated from the remainder of the flowable medium during the dispensing operation so that it can be dispensed independently of any head pressure created by the remainder of the flowable medium. By using a temperature sensor in combination with a microcomputer system for the purpose of detecting large fluctuations in the temperature of the flowable medium, it is also possible to determine when the remainder of the flowable medium reaches a low level condition.

  • Patent number: 4985943
Abstract: A hydrotherapeutic jet for a hydrotherapeutic receptacle employs three nozzels and two separate mixing chambers. A primary stream of water flows through the first nozzel to create a low pressure condition which sucks air into the first mixing chamber, causing the primary stream to be mixed with the air. The primary stream is discharged through the second nozzle into the second mixing chamber, thereby creating another low pressure condition which sucks a secondary stream of water from the hydrotherapeutic receptacle into the second mixing chamber and hence causes the aerated primary stream to be entrained with the secondary stream. The air/water mixture is then discharged from the second mixing chamber into the hydrotherapeutic receptacle by te third nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4958818
Abstract: When used as holder for tools for partial machining tasks or as clamping means for exchangeable tools, the clamping block for clamping workpieces or tools make it possible to carry out a rapid and precisely reproducible exchange of the object (7) to be clamped. The clamping block having a block base (1) and a clamping jaw (5) which can be displaced relative thereto comprises a fixed clamping jaw (3) and means (4, 4.2) for the at least approximately parallel guidance of the moveable clamping jaw (5) relative to the block base. The latter has an essentially L-shaped form with two legs (1.1, 1.2) of approximately equal length. One of these carries the fixed clamping jaw (3) and a nose-shaped supporting portion (4) having a wedge-shaped control surface (4.2) for the moveable clamping jaw (5) while the other has a table-shaped portion (8) on which means for lateral and transverse guidance of the moveable clamping jaw (5) are supported.

  • Patent number: 4941217
Abstract: A jet fitting for a hydrotherapeutic receptacle includes an internal chamber which functions as a mixing chamber as well as a suction chamber. More particularly, a primary stream of water is supplied to the mixing chamber in such a manner that a low pressure condition is created within the mixing chamber for the purpose of entraining a secondary stream of water which flows from the hydrotherapeutic receptacle to the mixing chamber. The combined streams exit the fitting together so as to increase its discharge flow rate.

  • Patent number: 4928881
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an air freshener of the type which releases a fragrance by permitting a scent-producing liquid to be evaporatively diffused into the surrounding atmosphere. A wick-like member, which is made from a material capable of conveying the scent-producing liquid by capillary action, is employed for the purpose of conveying the scent-producing liquid from a source located internally of the air freshener to a liquid-diffusing site located on an external surface of the air freshener. The wick-like member extends in a continuous manner from the source of the scent-producing liqiud to the liquid-diffusing site, whereby the scent-producing liquid is diffused to the atmosphere directly from the wick-like member itself. A circumferentially continuous spring-like member forms an internal liquid-tight seal in order to inhibit the inadvertent leakage of the scent-producing liquid from the air freshener.

  • Patent number: 4915403
Abstract: A skateboard has a frame (1) on which a petal (7b) is pivotably mounted. When the pedal (7b) is pressed down its movement is converted via a push rod (16), a crank (26) and a toothed segment (29) into a rotational movement which is transmitted to a gear train (2). The output pinion of the gear train (2) is fixedly connected to the shaft of the two drive rollers (4). The push rod (16), in each case via a ball-and-socket joint (19a, 19b), is connected to both the pedal (7b) and the toothed segment (29) so that the transmission of the drive force is ensured even during tilting of the pedal (7b) caused when riding around curves. This mechanically driveable skateboard has the same height as a conventional skateboard and enables relatively high speeds to be reached while retaining the diverse possibilities such as ease in negotiating curves and maneuverability.

  • Patent number: 4880272
Abstract: A seat (2) is mounted pivotably about a first axle (A1) on the stand (1) of the chair. The seat frame (8) is connected to a second axle (A2) which is fastened to the backrest (3) behind the backrest (3) at a horizontal distance from the latter and at a vertical distance from the first axle (A1).The backrest (3) produced from an elastically resilient material, when deflected out of its vertical position, causes the second axle (A2) to move over an arc of a circle of radius A.sub.1 -A.sub.2 ; the rear seat portion adjacent to the backrest (3) is also lowered correspondingly thereby. The backrest (3) extending over the entire height of the chair forms with its lower portion an integral component of the chair stand (1).In comparison with the known complicated and heavy backrest/seat adjustment mechanisms, a cost-effective and lightweight construction, but one which fully satisfies modern ergonomic requirements as regards sitting comfort, is proposed here.
