  • Patent number: 8311790
Abstract: A genome-scale metabolic network reconstruction for Clostridium acetobutylicum (ATCC 824) was created using a new semi-automated reverse engineering algorithm. This invention includes algorithms and software that can reconstruct genome-scale metabolic networks for cell-types available through the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes. This method can also be used to complete partial metabolic networks and cell signaling networks where adequate starting information base is available. The software may use a semi-automated approach which uses a priori knowledge of the cell-type from the user. Upon completion, the program output is a genome-scale stoichiometric matrix capable of cell growth in silico. The invention also includes methods for developing flux constraints and reducing the number of possible solutions to an under-determined system by applying specific proton flux states and identifying numerically-determined sub-systems.

  • Patent number: 8308248
Abstract: A method for operating a vehicle brake system and a corresponding vehicle brake system, particularly for motor vehicles. The vehicle wheels of the motor vehicle associated with an axle are at least partially driven by ‘WV’ an electric motor that can be operated as a generator during regeneration of braking energy, thus exerting a braking regeneration el torque on the respective axle. To prevent overbraking on the rear axle, the regeneration torque acting on at least one rear axle (HA) is limited such that the slippage present on the at least one vehicle wheel of the rear axle (HA) does not exceed or only negligibly exceeds a first slippage threshold individually associated with the respective vehicle wheel.

  • Patent number: 8311228
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring a sound pressure level dose at an ear are provided. A system includes an audio transducer which outputs a sound signal is placed within an ear to receive sound at the ear. A sound level threshold detector determines whether a sound pressure level of the sound signal is at a minimum level and outputs a sound pressure level signal corresponding to the sound pressure level when the sound pressure level is not at the minimum level. A time period is calculated during which the sound pressure level is not at the minimum threshold level. A listening fatigue calculator determines whether a cumulative effect of exposure to the sound signal at the ear over the time period will cause harm to the ear. At least a portion of the system is disposed in situ at the ear.

  • Patent number: 8312052
Abstract: The present invention establishes a process for creating a set of structures that allows efficient storage and subsequent handling. The multigraph is represented using bitmaps with element counters and mappings between values and organized bitmaps to faciliate the handling of the multigraphs. The bits in the bitmaps represent two aspects of the multigraph: 1) indexing of all the objects of the multigraph as a function of their identifiers and 2) connectivity between objects of the multigraph, whether they are vertices or edges. Mappings allow, given a value, accessing the objects of the multigraph which contain such value. Multigraph operations are solved by accessing the mappings and applying logical operations on the bitmaps. This way of representing a graph allows efficiently performing graph operations such as: inserting a vertex or an edge, inserting an attribute, acquiring the incoming and outgoing edges of an attribute, etc.
