  • Patent number: 5785857
Abstract: A mobile process to reclaim spent aqueous glycol solutions used as heat transfer fluids and which contains deleterious contaminants, oil/grease, corrosion products, and additives such as buffers and corrosion inhibitors. Particulate contaminates and oil/grease are removed by passing the solution through an ultrafiltration membrane. The dissolved contaminants are removed by passing through a series of ion exchange resin (IER) vessels. The reclaimed glycol solution is reused after replacing the required additives. One embodiment provides for central processing of the filtration and absorption media housed in a mobile enclosure, such as a trailer. The mobile trailer may be used at various collection sites for cleaning and reprocessing spent glycols. After the media are spent, the mobile trailer is returned to a central processing facility for regeneration of the filtration and absorption media. The waste produced by the regeneration is concentrated at a single treatment and disposal facility.

  • Patent number: 5776082
Abstract: The method and apparatus of the present invention measures degree angle and anthropometric linear measurements of the skeletal structure of the human body. The individual stands in reference to the apparatus with the top of the sternoclavicular joint, or suprasternal notch, as a point of origin. Every individual is measured from the same beginning point. Ten component variables are taken with the measuring unit. These variables allow infield studies of individual workers at a work station or exercise on a resistance training program and/or undergoing medical treatment for biomechanical correction. By measuring bone lengths and degree angles of a human body certain characteristics or trends can be found by this systematic measuring procedure.

  • Patent number: 5743417
Abstract: An ironing board caddy for stowing ironing supplies and accessories. The caddy removably attaches to an ironing board so that the supplies and accessories are kept conveniently to hand during clothes ironing. The ironing board caddy is conveniently a wire form construction with a hanging member adapted to serve three functions: first, it is shaped to fit over the end of the ironing board to serve as a means of attachment of the caddy to the ironing board; second, it serves as a carrying handle when it is being moved from the ironing board to a storage place and vice versa; and finally, it serves as a wall hanger when the caddy is stored between uses. The caddy also has a basket member suspended from the hanging member to receive ironing supplies and accessories such as sprays, water bottles, and the like.

  • Patent number: 5730047
Abstract: A portable refuse compacting container including a container for receiving a flexible refuse collection bag of the type typically known as garbage bags or leaf bags. Bulky refuse such as leaves, grass clippings and the like may be placed in the refuse collection bag where these materials are compressed by a compacting plate which is loosely received inside the container. The compacting plate is used to compress the refuse by an attached plunger arm which is affixed to the compacting plate and which is pivotally attached to a compaction lever. The compaction lever is pivotally attached to the edge of the top of the container. The compaction lever may be latched in place on the container. The container is provided with wheels for ease in moving either the full or the empty container from place to place. When the compaction lever is latched to the container, the handle of the compaction lever also serves as a handle for moving the container about on its wheels.

  • Patent number: 5715660
Abstract: An automated product collection apparatus comprising two vertical, endless belt conveyor systems and a horizontal conveyor. One vertical conveyors (the load station) is loaded with a number of empty containers which are transferred sequentially to the horizontal conveyor (the fill station). The horizontal conveyor moves an empty container into position to collect parts from process and production equipment. Sensing circuitry counts the parts loaded into each container to determine when each container is full or reaches a predetermined product count. The full container is moved to the second vertical conveyor system (the unload station) which accumulates the full containers until unloaded from the second vertical conveyor. Individual parts may be counted, the accumulated total of parts can be weighed, and inputs may be obtained from other automated production equipment.

  • Patent number: 5700288
Abstract: A breast prosthesis and an underwire bra adapted to retain the breast prosthesis. The breast prosthesis is affixed to the underwire bra by an attachment fixture molded into the posterior (or chest side) of the prosthesis. The attachment fixture, a female plug, is complementary to a retention fixture, a male plug, molded into a loop on the underwire of the bra. The loop of the underwire is adapted to provide a spring bias of the male plug against the chest wall of the wearer for a secure and comfortable fit and to provide sensory feedback as to the correct positioning of the prosthesis.

  • Patent number: 5697871
Abstract: A combination dumbbell and jump rope with interchangeable weight units is disclosed. Various weights may be quickly and easily attached or detached from the handles by pushing a button on the end of the weight unit. When pushed, the button releases ball bearings that lock the weight unit into grooves on the handle. The jump rope length is easily adjustable to accommodate each individual user by retracting a portion of the rope inside the hollow rope handles. Retraction is accomplished by the release of a variable-length clamping mechanism. When closed, the clamping mechanism presses ball bearings against the jump rope cable to hold it firmly in place. When released, the rope may move freely within a jump rope cable guide for length adjustment.

  • Patent number: 5684644
Abstract: A light beam line projecting device having a combination of two or more lenses which magnify in only one dimension; i.e., cylindrical and plano-cylindrical lenses, which are arranged so that the lenses' physical proximity to one another can be manipulated in order to dictate the angle of light emitted from the lens system. The axes of curvature of the respective lenses are maintained in the same plane by a lens holder comprising a stationary lens holder which houses one of the lenses, a sliding lens holder which houses the other lens, and a rotating adjustment ring which provides both the outside housing for the system and the means of adjustment of the proximity of the lenses relative to each other. The sliding lens holder has projections that slide longitudinally in grooves in the stationary lens holder and projection that slide circumferentially in grooves in the rotating adjustment ring.

  • Patent number: 5661858
Abstract: A compact powered lift toilet for assisting a person in rising from or being seated upon a toilet by duplicating the natural motions of the human body. The toilet set accomplishes three separate motions simultaneously: (1) vertical translation, (2) horizontal translation, and (3) rotation. A sun and planet gear mechanism lifts and moves forward the front of the toilet seat while a lever action on the rear of the toilet seat causes the rear of the seat to rise and tilt forward with respect to the front of the seat. Both the sun and planet gear and the rear lever action are effected by a single linear actuator.

  • Patent number: 5655957
Abstract: A sharpening machine for sharpening the cutting edges of instruments, particularly the curved inner cutting edges of dental instruments, to obtain an arbitrary wedge angle. A grinding disk is provided with both a plane surface and a radiused outer edge. A shaft extension extends above the plane of the grinding disk and serves to support the instrument as it is being sharpened. The longitudinal axis of the instrument is displaced away from the axis of rotation of the shaft extension by an offset one-half distance equal to the diameter of the shaft extension thereby determining an offset angle of the longitudinal axis of the instrument with respect to the grinding disk and thus the wedge angle of sharpening of the curved inner edge of the instrument. In order to facilitate the sharpening of the curved inner edge of the instrument, the outer edge of the grinding disk is formed with a radius shorter than the radius of curvature of the instrument.

The door may also be held in a closed but unlocked position by a sliding magnetic catch that holds the door closed without engaging the latch but allows the door to be manually urged into the fully locked position. In the closed but unlocked position the door may be manually opened by the postal carrier. The postal carrier may manually close the door so that it moves past the closed but unlocked position and engages the latching lock in the fully locked position. A dual function mounting bracket is provided which has both a set of aligned holes for mounting the mailbox to a metal post with bolts and a set of offset holes for mounting the mailbox to a wooden post with screws.
