Abstract: A typical mouse presents great inconvenience to those who have very large hands, very small hands or those who have finger deformity. When the hands are very large, user fingers need to bend over in order to reach the button; when the hands are very small, user fingers need to stretch out in order to reach the button. None of which presents a comfortable position for these users. Furthermore, if there is any finger deformity involved, then there would be even greater difficulty in activating the mouse button for purposes such as data selection and command execution.
The present invention provides an improved computer mouse that has a mouse housing having a base member and a top member. The base member is configured primarily to make moving contact with the surface of a computer pad or a table. The top member is an integrated piece having no separate mechanical button disposed thereon.

Abstract: The present invention includes a portable computer having improved resistance to scratching, marring and general abuses that include shock and vibration. The computer has a computer housing that includes a display housing and a main housing. A portion integral to one side of the display housing and that portion being proximal to an operating user has an integral layer of translucent elastomer having elastic properties of materials such that of natural rubber. One side of the main housing includes a location for keyboard placement, a palm rest and a cursor-pointing device. Another side of the main housing makes contact with a generally flat surface when the computer is in use. A portion integral to that side of the main housing also includes a layer of translucent elastomer. The configuration of the translucent elastomers on the computer housing is such they cover at least the corners of the portable computer that are proximal to the operating user.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for interleaving display frame buffers for use by multi-panel display(s) is disclosed. The system provides a data addressing transformation apparatus for converting CPU addresses for pixel positions of the multiple panels of display screen(s) to corresponding memory addresses so as to enable multiple video frame buffers to be interleavably stored in and retrieved from a single video memory system.
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for interleaving display frame buffers is disclosed. The system includes a processor providing CPU addresses for peripheral (access, a display system, a single memory system for storing multiple frame buffers, data buses for transferring image information and a video controller for processing the image information received and for converting CPU addresses into memory addresses for accessing the memory system. The multiple frame buffers stored in the memory system in accordance with the present invention provide either overlay images for a display or separate images for separate displays or both.
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for rotating images on a computer system is disclosed. The system includes a processor for accessing an image frame buffer using a set of CPU addresses, a memory for storing the frame buffer, a controller for directing the pixel data of the frame buffer to a display device using a set of controller addresses. The two sets of addresses are not necessarily the same. In fact, numerous advantages could be had from manipulating those two sets of addresses resulting in image rotation operations for the display device.
Abstract: A method and apparatus in an electronically controlled system such as a portable computer are provided for minimizing effects of noise picked up by an input device such as a touch-sensitive capacitive coupling input pad where a conductive stylus may be used on the pad to control the cursor movement on a display device. The present invention removes the cursor jitters on the display device that is associated with the input device and provides for quick cursor responses corresponding to quick motion input by the conductive stylus on the input pad.
Abstract: A housing and ejection mechanism for PCMCIA electronic "smart cards" is disclosed. The ejection mechanism comprises a pair of cooperating lever arms and springs. When a "smart card" is inserted into the housing, the two lever arms pivot into the housing, extending an ejection spring. As the spring is pulled back by means of the lever arms, insertion of the card requires only slightly more force than would be needed to connect a "smart card" with its socket were no spring present. Full insertion of the card leaves the two lever arms coupled, but with only one of the lever arms locked in position. When the user triggers the ejection process, the two levers are mechanically separated and one of them applies the full spring force to the "smart card", freeing it from its socket and starting to push it out of the housing. After the first arm frees the "smart card" from its socket, it frees the second lever arm from its latch. The two lever arms then cooperate to push the "smart card" further out of the housing.
Abstract: An apparatus for programmably adjusting output voltage of a constant-voltage battery charger is disclosed. The present invention includes a power circuit for generating an output voltage for charging batteries. This power circuit generates this output voltage as a function of an incoming power source and an incoming error signal. The invention further includes a controller for providing a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal operating at a pre-determined frequency. This PWM signal controls the effective divider ratio of a voltage divider network which is implemented, among other things, for generating the error signal to be fed to the power circuit. The present invention varies the effective divider ratio by programmably applying the pulse width modulated signal from the controller. As a result, the output voltage from the power circuit can be varied to optimally charge batteries of differing types and technologies.
Abstract: An apparatus in a hand-held computing device for providing non-simultaneous user access to a pair of mutually exclusive electrical connectors is disclosed. The present invention includes a slidable door having three operative positions. In its closed position, the door is adapted to cover the pair of the mutually exclusive electrical connectors to prevent user access. The door can be guided to stop at a first open position where a first electrical connector of the pair is exposed for user access and the other connector remains covered. The door can also be guided to stop at a second open position where the other connector is exposed whereas the first connector is covered up. One aspect of the invention includes detents associated with the three door positions for user feedback.
