  • Patent number: 5399216
Abstract: An apparatus and method for applying thin film polymer labels to small cylindrical articles such as dry cell batteries without label mismatching is disclosed. A label transport drum is rotatably mounted on a frame. Cut labels are supplied to the surface of the label transport drum as the drum is rotated. An adhesive is applied onto the area adjacent the leading edge of the label while the label is moving with the drum, and a solvent is applied onto an area adjacent the trailing edge of the label. Cylindrical articles are conveyed in tangential spinning engagement with the label transport drum and into rotative engagement with the adhesive on the leading edge of the label so as to transfer the label onto the article as the label is moved into engagement with the rotating article. A pressure plate imparts pressure against selected sides and ends of the article during wrapping to prevent mismatching of the label as the label wraps around the article.

  • Patent number: 5355944
Abstract: A heat exchanger, particularly for a motor vehicle, comprises a bundle of finned tubes, with each tube having an end portion which is sealingly mounted in a hole formed in a header plate on which a casing of a water header of the heat exchanger is secured. The heat exchanger has at least one locating or immobilising member interposed between the tube bundle and the water header. This locating member has a first portion which bears on the header and a second portion which extends parallel to the longitudinal direction of the tubes in the bundle, and which bears against the longitudinal edges of a group of several fins adjacent to the header plate. In this way any relative displacement of the tube bundle with respect to the header plate, in particular in a pivoting or torsional mode, is resisted.

  • Patent number: 5356337
Abstract: An electric vehicle has a traction motor and apparatus comprising an air circuit for cooling the traction motor, for providing heat, where required, for the cabin of the vehicle, and for ventilating the cabin. The air circuit of the apparatus comprises a main branch containing a main ventilating and heating blower, together with a secondary branch which is branched from the first branch and which contains the cooling radiator for the traction motor. An auxiliary blower is arranged in the secondary branch. An upstream mixing valve and a downstream mixing valve connect these two branches in parallel, in such a way that either: the flow of cabin heating air passes through the radiator; or the mixing valves isolate the secondary branch, so as to form an entirely separate cooling air circuit in which the air flow is produced by the auxiliary blower.

  • Patent number: 5350482
Abstract: An apparatus and method for applying labels onto small cylindrical articles such as dry cell batteries is disclosed. A label transport drum has a substantially smooth surface. Cut labels are applied to the surface and an adhesive applicator applies a preferred cold adhesive onto an area adjacent the leading edge of the label. A solvent applicator applies a predetermined amount of solvent on the area adjacent the trailing edge of the label. The solvent applicator includes a solvent transfer roll and a rotatably supported rotary pad print head. The rotary pad print head includes at least one narrowly tapering, flexible wiper tip. In one embodiment the wiper tip has a V-notch on its end. The flexible tip engages the solvent transfer roll, transferring solvent from the solvent transfer roll into the V-notch. The rotary pad print head is timed to rotate so that the flexible tip is deflected against the area adjacent the trailing edge of the label.

  • Patent number: 5348082
Abstract: A heat exchanger, especially a cooling radiator for motor vehicle engine, comprises a multiplicity of tubes of oblong cross section, each having an end portion fitted in a corresponding hole formed in a header plate, the joint being sealed by means of a sealing gasket. The sealing gasket has a tubular portion compressed between each tube end portion and an internal surface of the corresponding hole in the header plate, each tube end portion being formed with a peripheral bead spaces away from the terminal edge of the tube.
