Abstract: An environmental accommodating, reduced NOx, spark or plasma ignited, reciprocating, multi-fuel engine utilizing direct, in-cylinder water injection and an optional oxygen enriched air supply is able to operate as an ultra-lean burn, high compression ratio engine for notable power output and increased efficiency. The in-cylinder low-temperature water injection promotes numerous desirable effects. One, the in-cylinder water injection during compression stroke significantly lowers compression temperatures through the latent heat of vaporization of the liquid water to the gaseous form. The lower temperature of compression permits increased compression ratios while avoiding pre-ignition. As well, the low-temperature water injected air/fuel or enriched O.sub.2 /air/fuel mass demands less work in the compression stroke thereby increasing overall engine efficiency. The low-temperature water injection promotes increased mass flow through the engine for increased power output and efficiency.
Abstract: A blood collection device for use with vacuum sample tube is provided having a retractable carrier for a double cannula. A sliding tab is mounted to the carrier by an outwardly biased flexible member and extends through a longitudinal slot in the barrel. Near either end of the slot V notches are provided in the internal wall of the barrel to engage locking hubs on the sliding tab to releasably lock the carrier in either the exposed or retracted position. A first cap is provided to cover the original open end and a second cap is provided to cover the end left open after retraction of the double cannula into the barrel.
Abstract: There is provided a disposable scalpel having a retractable blade. The blade may be secured in any of three positions: 1) an intermediated retracted position for shipping, 2) an exposed position for use and 3) a permanently locked retracted position. The opening in the case is provided with a bead and groove type closure mechanism to seal the blade within the case after the blade has been retracted.
Abstract: A drywall repair kit which includes a hollow tubular guide and a solid plug for fitting into the guide. The solid plug includes adhesive on its insertion end to secure the plug in place. After the plug is secured the guide is removed. The length of the plug is only slightly less than the stud space between drywall sheets plus the thickness of the drywall.
Abstract: A needleless connector for adding medication to a parenteral fluid is provided. In one embodiment an adapter is provided for securing to a Y connector having a standard puncture pad. The adapter includes a cannula for piercing the pad and a valve that is opened by the attachment of a syringe. In a second embodiment the Y connector itself contains the valve in lieu of the puncture pad. In a final embodiment the valve is contained within a universal luer connector adapter.
Abstract: An adapter for a medicinal vial is provided which includes a conical spike on one end for insertion through the rubber puncture pad in the lid of a medicinal vial. The end opposite the spike is provided with a standard male luer connection and pre-slit rubber cover. The male luer connector of a syringe may be easily passed through the slit to withdraw liquid from the vial by action of the piston. The rubber cover keeps the end of the adapter sealed. In one embodiment the adapter includes a valve in the upper portion to seal the end which opens in response to the attachment of a syringe.
Abstract: A disposable retractable needle dental syringe is provided which includes a barrel having a needle carrier mounted therein with a cannula attached thereto. A slidable piston is mounted within the barrel which includes a shaft and hub for locking to the carrier. The plunger seal is conveniently mounted about the shaft between the plunger and the hub. A removable plunger is provided for attachment to and operation of the piston. A cap is provided to cover the open end of the barrel after the carrier and needle have been retracted.
Abstract: An hydroelectric power plant is disclosed which comprises several combination turbine/generators which are suspended into an ocean current from a submerged tension leg type platform. Each of the turbine/generators are independently positionable horizontally, vertically and azimuthally to take the best advantage of the ocean current at any given time for generating electricity.

Abstract: A simplified retractable needle hypodermic syringe is provided which includes a barrel having a needle carrier mounted therein with a cannula attached thereto. A slidable plunger is mounted within the barrel which includes a shaft and hub for locking to the carrier. The plunger seal is conveniently mounted about the shaft between the plunger and the hub. A removable safety cap is provided to cover the upper end of the plunger and the barrel to prevent accidental depression of the plunger and engagement of the hub with the carrier before use. The cap is placed over the open end of the barrel after use to provide a closed container. The shaft is broken off at above the hub leaving the hub and carrier in the barrel.

The blade may be secured in any of three positions: 1) an intermediated retracted position for shipping, 2) an exposed position for use and 3) a permanently locked retracted position. A cap is provided to cover the openings on the scalpel after the blade is secured in the permanently locked position.
Abstract: To protect against accidental needle prick a catheter and insertion device are provided wherein the needle is retractable within the device after insertion of the catheter. The device comprises a hollow barrel or tube of semi-rigid plastic material into which the needle can be retracted after use. The insertion needle is mounted on a carrier with the sharp end oriented toward an open insertion end of the barrel with the catheter snugly fit about the needle.
