  • Patent number: 6162516
Abstract: The present invention involves a system and method for a user of smokeless tobacco to reduce the deleterious effects to oral tissues from the chemicals generated from using smokeless tobacco. A protective shield encloses a quantity of tobacco while resting in a mouth of a user, generally between the cheek and gum surfaces. The protective shield may be impermeable, sanitary, and disposable or biodegradable. It may assist in reducing leukoplakia and other oral diseases related to the use of smokeless tobacco. It attempts to allow the normal use of smokeless tobacco without interfering with speech, drinking, and other activities while providing some protection from the chemicals. The present invention involves a system and includes a container for holding the shields, having an opening for removing the shields for convenience and to encourage use, typically in the vicinity to a quantity of smokeless tobacco for easy access.

  • Patent number: 6160835
Abstract: A diode laser pumps a laser crystal in a known manner. A series of bypass mirrors selectively bypass the diode output beam around the laser crystal and directly out the same exit port as the pumped laser output beam. A hand held enclosure houses this dual laser head and supporting optics in a portable laser housing. Support electronics are optionally enclosed along with the applicator assembly and a battery. A transceiver to a host computer is included along with an optional exhaust and filter system.

  • Patent number: 6149201
Abstract: The present invention is a toy for amusement. The toy is comprised of a cardboard-like panel with one or more spherical toy balls, commonly known as "floating eyeballs," Jet Balls.TM. or Glide Balls.TM., affixed to the panel which bears graphic depictions including human, insect, animal, or creature-like facial features on both its front and back surfaces. The panel can be hingedly connected to a book or other card-like device such that when the panel is turned over or opened, a new panel bearing different features appears. The panel and spherical toy ball(s) together make an entertaining three-dimensional representation that can be controlled by the user to create a visual effect in which the spherical toy ball(s) move about in a manner similar to human-like eye movement. Another embodiment shows a daytime calendar having the spherical toy balls protruding through the top page of the calendar.

  • Patent number: 6144736
Abstract: A technique for powering telephone lines using an unbalance current source and current sink; and a technique for improving attenuation/frequency distribution and return loss (impedance matching) of transformer-coupled wire-line communications circuits by using secondary series capacitance and an AC current pump signal source; and a generation of ringing voltage as positive voltage pulses with respect to a negative power supply voltage; and a technique for removal of AC power ripple by using an active linear floating filter for the purpose of powering telephone line circuits, and a technique for injection of real time tone samples into T1 transmissions circuits by use of a T1 framer idle code register.

  • Patent number: 6125910
Abstract: An intruder resistant screen including a frame comprising elongate frame members each having a channel section engaging a respective corner stake in each end thereof. A woven wire intruder resistant mesh covering an opening enclosed by the frame. There are a plurality of clamping members that co-act with flanges projecting from the channel sections to provide leveraged clamping of the mesh against a clamping web. Respective fasteners fasten the clamping member to the clamping web.

  • Patent number: 6112749
Abstract: A method and apparatus is taught to help infants change diets. An absorbent pad having an odorant is placed on a baby bottle so as to be near the baby's nose when ingesting. First the odorant is paired to a flavored diet of the baby. Then the odorant is coupled to a novel diet which the baby is not so fond of. The result is the baby ingests more than usual of the novel diet. Other aspects include a flavor ring on a baby bottle or a bowl and a plurality of flavor dots on a baby bottle or bowl. The inventive concept of placing a pleasing odorant near a user's nose during drinking can help babies, elderly people and even pets ingest more fluids.

  • Patent number: 6084711
Abstract: The Folding Laptop Computer Shade is a device designed to reduce the amount of ambient light adversely affecting the viewability of portable laptop/notebook computers. It is essentially a four (4) sided collapsing box, which when expanded and placed directly over the entire computer, effectively shields the display from outside light sources enough to make comfortable viewing possible. The device is of relatively simple construction, made from cloth, plastic, and other existing materials readily available. It is designed to fold flat when not in use, for easy storage in typical laptop computer cases, without the need for an extra package or a larger case. It is equipped with removable, adjustable legs for viewing and access adjustment, as well as easy storage. It consists of five (5) parts, the shade box itself, and four (4) legs.

  • Patent number: 6083110
Abstract: The present invention is a vertical wind tunnel amusement device. The device comprises a flight chamber wherein a user may experience a freefall through the atmosphere from the safety of an enclosed flight chamber. Airflow sufficient to fully support a user within the flight chamber is induced by a plurality of fans connected above the flight chamber through a duct. A staging area having openings to the flight chamber is adjacent to the flight chamber. A user may enter or retreat from the flight chamber at will through the staging area openings without significantly adjusting the airflow velocity in the flight chamber. A control room is adjacent to the fight chamber whereby an operator may observe a user or users within the flight chamber and thereby safely control the operation of the fans. A projection room is also adjacent to the flight chamber whereby a video of a skydiving experience may be displayed to a user within the flight chamber.

  • Patent number: 6070106
Abstract: A cable drive mechanism is provided for causing and controlling movement of a tool carriage in three axis of a large format, light duty, numerically controlled tool suitable for machining goods. The shaft of a carriage-mounted motor serves as a capstan for two opposing loops of a continuous flexible steel cable. Each loop encircles 180 .degree. of motor shaft after having passed from the carriage to a pulley at one end of the axis and returning, then passing to a second pulley at the same end before passing the length of the axis to a pulley at the opposite end and to the second loop encircling the motor shaft. Such a cable drive system, in conjunction with a control and feedback means, provides an economical means to control movement of the tool carriage in 3 dimensions with accuracy suitable for woodworking with the ability to machine sheet goods such as plywood. The continuous cable loop system with carriage mounted motor provides symmetrical drive power irrespective of the position of the carriage.
