Abstract: Oil well production fluid composed of oil and water and containing in excess of 100 ppm water soluble petroleum carboxylates in anionic form dissolved in the water is treated by acidifying the fluid to a pH of 6.0 or lower with a strong acid and then is intimately mixed. The oil and water are separated one from the other. The content of the water soluble organics in the water is thereby substantially transferred to the oil phase. In a second aspect of the invention, water used to extract corrosion compounds to render the oil suitable for fueling gas turbine power plants is acidified to a pH of 6.0 or lower and is thereafter intimately mixed with fuel oil.

Abstract: The invention provides a surfactant mixture, comprising a zwitterionic surfactant, a nonionic surfactant and a cationic surfactant, which forms a foamable liquid composition upon addition to aqueous media including fresh water, brines, acids and water/alcohol mixtures. The foams prepared from the foamable liquid composition have utility as fracturing fluids and well cleaning fluids.
Abstract: A method for viscosifying a liquid hydrocarbon-based fracturing fluid is disclosed. The method comprises mixing together a liquid hydrocarbon, an acid, a phosphate composition and an aluminate activator. The phosphate composition comprises an organic phosphate ester selected from the group consisting of orthophosphate esters of the formulae ##STR1## wherein R is an alkyl group containing one to about eight carbon atoms and R' is selected fromt the group consisting of alkyl groups containing about six to about eighteen carbon atoms, alkenyl groups containing about six to about eighteen carbon atoms and mixtures thereof. Hydrocarbon-based fracturing fluids prepared by such method, and methods of use of such fluids are also disclosed.
Abstract: There is disclosed an extrusion processing aid composition for the extrusion of polyolefins, particularly linear low density polyethylene and high density polyethylene films of sheets; polyolefin compositions containing said processing aid and a process of extruding polyolefins using said processing aid. The processing aid is a composition comprising (a) an amide of a saturated or unsaturated carboxylic acid or a saturated or unsaturated alkylene bis-amide of a saturated or unsaturated dicarboxylic acid; (b) an aliphatic hydrocarbon polymer mixture having a molecular weight of from about 400 to about 50,000; and (c) an oxygen-containing high density, low molecular weight ethylene polymer.
Abstract: Water-soluble copolymers which are essentially free of cross-linking are useful as shale stabilizers. These copolymers are random copolymers of a vinyl carboxamide monomer and a hydroxy-containing vinyl carboxylic ester. These shale stabilizers are added to a drilling fluid which is then circulated through a well bore whereby the shale stabilizers come in contact with the shale formation and inhibit hydration of shale to prevent sloughing thereof.
Abstract: Corrosion inhibitors for ferrous metals are provided which afford protection from general corrosion and cracking-type corrosion, which inhibitors are reaction products of acylated polyamines and phosphate esters.

Abstract: The invention pertains to particulate compositions comprising a mixture of a low melting point petroleum additive and a higher melting point polymer which mixture is then coated with a high melting point polymer. The mixture of the additive and higher melting point polymer has a melting point close to the melting point of the polymer (i.e., significantly higher than the melting point of the additive). The high melting point polymer coating allows the composition to be added to petroleum systems having high temperatures without immediately dissolving, i.e., the compositions are only slowly soluble in hot crude oil. Accordingly, a slow, controlled release is afforded by the compositions of the invention.
Abstract: Novel demulsifier compositions, their method of preparation and use as demulsifiers are described. The novel demulsifiers comprise the partially condensed reaction product of a blend of at least two oxyalkylated materials with a vinyl monomer. The demulsifiers are useful in the resolution of water-in-oil emulsions.
Abstract: There is provided a corrosion inhibitor for use in the storage, distribution and use of alcohol as a fuel for internal combustion engines. The inhibitor comprises a triazole and an amine salt of an acid. There is further provided a corrosion-inhibited alcohol fuel and a method of inhibiting corrosion in metals.

Abstract: This invention relates to vinyl-type interpolymers having an overall carbon/oxygen atom ratio of about 2 to about 4, which is preferably derived from 2 types of vinyl monomers:(1) at least one vinyl-type monomer present in the interpolymer at about 50 mole % or greater and having a carbon/oxygen atom ratio of about 3 or less ("hydrophilic" monomer), and(2) at least one vinyl-type monomer present in the interpolymer at about 50 mole % or less and having a carbon/oxygen atom ratio of about 3 or more ("hydrophobic" monomer).Typical examples are vinyl acetate/vinyl fatty ester copolymers and vinyl acetate/dialkyl maleate copolymers.
