  • Patent number: 4059798
Abstract: Magnetic cores of clamp-on type current measuring devices having a Hall-effect device for measurement of D.C. currents are provided with stabilizing coils which are periodically energized to substantially eliminate the characteristic hysteresis effect of the core material. A magnetic core of the type which is split to permit opening and subsequent clamping onto a conductor, has one section thereof provided with an air gap in which the Hall-effect device is positioned. A stabilizing coil is positioned on one section of the magnetic core and the coil and is periodically energized with a damped oscillatory current. This damped oscillatory current is at least applied immediately prior to the taking of any current measurement and is preferably applied periodically to maintain the stability of the magnetic core.

  • Patent number: 4049372
Abstract: A furnace work supporting roll and a spare work roll are mounted on a frame in diametrically opposed positions with the spare roll normally out of the furnace. The frame is mounted on an axis parallel to the roll axis and equal distance therefrom. • Patent number: 4025749
Abstract: Apparatus for making butt-welded tube from a strip includes a pair of grooved weld rolls for aligning the longitudinal edges of the strip bent into a tubular shape. To insure that the inside seam of the tube is flush regardless of variations in thickness between strip edges, each roll is made in two sections. In a horizontal mill the seam is on top and each bottom roll section is fixed in horizontal position while the top roll section has limited axial movement. Resilient means bias the roll sections apart and against a top stop so that the top of one edge of the strip is higher than the other when the edges are of different thicknesses. If desired, the rolls may also be adjusted to insure that the outside seam of the tube is flush.
