Abstract: A plastic container with a self-supporting base, a body portion extending above the base and a neck portion above the body portion. The neck portion includes a dispensing opening. The body portion includes a substantially rigid sidewall portion with structural reinforcement thereon.
Abstract: A measuring cup adapted to serve as a closure for a package for liquids and a package for liquids including a container, a transition collar and a measuring cup adapted to serve as a closure. The measuring cup has a closed base and an open mouth, with an upper wall portion surrounding said open mouth. A side wall portion extends between the closed base and upper wall, wherein the side wall is disposed outwardly of the upper wall to provide an increased volume measuring cup.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a molded container coated with a carbon coating, desirably blow molded or extrusion molded, said container having barrier properties and including an upper wall portion having an opening, an intermediate sidewall portion positioned beneath the upper wall portion, and a base portion positioned beneath the intermediate sidewall portion to support the container. The container includes a molded first layer having an inner surface and an outer surface formed from high density polyethylene, and a carbon coating is formed on the inner surface of the first layer and adhered thereto and substantially coextensive with the first layer, wherein said carbon coating has a thickness of less than about 10 microns.
Abstract: A blow molded container having barrier properties and including an upper wall portion having an opening, an intermediate sidewall portion positioned beneath the upper wall portion, and a base portion positioned beneath the intermediate sidewall portion to support the container. The container includes a molded outer layer having an inner surface and an outer surface formed from at least 40% of recycled plastic, and a carbon coating formed on the inner surface of the outer layer and adhered thereto and substantially coextensive with the outer layer, wherein said carbon coating has a thickness of less than about 10 microns.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for forming a blow molded plastic container with a mouth and neck portion thereof which is inclined or angled with respect to the body portion of the container, including heating the neck of the container and bending the heated neck of the container.

Abstract: Biaxially oriented, hollow plastic bottle of thermoplastic material having an improved base. The base includes an outer supporting annular rim for supporting the bottle on a surface and an inwardly extending portion of the base, wherein the space between the central portion of the base and the outer supporting rim includes a plurality of struts extending radially from the central portion of the base towards the annular rim.
Abstract: A multi-layer preform for forming multi-layer containers includes an extruded inner barrier layer containing polyethylene naphthalate, said inner layer having an upper portion adapted to be formed into an upper portion of a container, an intermediate portion adapted to be formed into an intermediate portion of a container, an extruded and a base portion adapted to form a base portion of a container. The preform includes an outer injection molded layer. The inner layer has a thickness which differs from the base portion to the upper portion.
Abstract: The carbon anodes of aluminum reduction cells are suspended on anode rods. The lower part of these rods viz., the anode pins or stubs can be anchored in the carbon anode by pouring cast iron into suitably shaped anode pin or stub holes which are at least partially undercut at the sides.A horizontal layer of cast iron at least some millimeters thick is formed between the floor of the pin or stub holes and the lower face of the anode pins or stubs. The cast iron poured into the spaces around the anode pins or stubs heats these to over 400.degree. C. The mass of the cast iron poured in is smaller than the mass of the lower part of the anode pin or stub to be enclosed.

Abstract: A back or load carrying platform of a vehicle is made out of a frame and elements made of light metal and has at least one holding device to which ropes or other load securing facilities can be attached to hold the load in position during transportation. This holding device is ring-shaped and is hinged in a recess in the frame around the platform from which, when required, it can be removed.
Abstract: A UV-light-sensitive sheet for graphic applications comprises an aluminum sheet or foil bearing an oxide film which is produced by anodizing and is colored but not yet sealed, an intermediate layer, and a layer of UV-light-sensitive plastic. The intermediate layer is formed from a solution containing at least one copolymer which is soluble in polar solvents and is made up of a monomer of the following group:(A) unsaturated ethers, unsaturated alcohols, unsaturated amines, unsaturated ketones, styreneand a monomer of the group(B) unsaturated carboxylic acids, carboxylic acid salts unsaturated carboxylic acid derivatives which can be hydrolyzed. The intermediate layer is formed on the colored, non-sealed oxide layer, dried and then a UV-light-sensitive layer of plastic is deposited on top of the intermediate layer.
Abstract: Iridium from the crucible wall, taken into solution during the growth of crystals by the Czochralski technique, is trapped at the bottom of the iridium crucible by cooling at least the bottom of the crucible. This part of the crucible is cooled to a temperature above the solidification temperature of the melt and results in almost inclusion-free crystals.
