  • Patent number: 5814379
Abstract: A strip of elastic is stretched over and encircles an object such as a door, car trunk or book cover. A tubular fabric cover may surround the strip. The cover is bunched so as to be capable of expanding lengthwise as the strip is stretched. A bow or other decoration, preferrably coordinated in appearance with the cover fabric, is removeably affixed to the band. One or more loops are formed in the band, preferrably proximate the bow, for hanging or mounting articles. The band may be continuous or may have a buckle to connect the ends.

  • Patent number: 5778935
Abstract: For connecting the spaced ends of underground irrigation or water pipe, a flexible replacement section with a rigid tubular coupling at each end is employed. Each coupling has an inner diameter equal to the outer diameter of the pipe being connected and is adapted to receive a pipe end therein. After one coupling is aligned with and mounted on one of the pipe ends, the replacement section is flexed so that the other coupling can be aligned with and mounted on the other pipe end as the flexed section is straightened.

  • Patent number: 5753890
Abstract: A casing seals to the edge of a mirror blank to form an autoclavable unit. An electrically energizable heater element is enclosed within the unit. The element is connected to a plug which extends from the casing and is adapted to engage a socket when the unit nests in a recess in a rack. A transformer is connected to the socket such that the heater is energized to preheat the unit while in the rack. Removal of the unit from the rack disconnects the electric supply, permitting the preheated unit to used without danger of shock. Several units may be preheated simultaneously on a single rack.

  • Patent number: 5669902
Abstract: The relatively loose fiting external portion of the garment has a waistband. An internal shell is adapted to extend between the legs of the wearer from the front portion of the waistband to the rear portion of the waistband. The shell forms a snug fitting support for an absorbent pad which retains the pad in a position closely adjacent the body. The shell is preferably made of mesh-like elastic material. A liquid impermeable pouch may be attached to the shell to receive the pad in a removeable fashion.

  • Patent number: 5631806
Abstract: The portion of the lead which is soldered between electrical components in a circuit module includes one or more radially extending slits. Once heated, the fluid solder is drawn into the slits by capillary action. Trapped air escapes, eliminating air pockets or gaps. The result is a stronger joint and a reduction in solder overflow.

  • Patent number: 5583584
Abstract: Means are provided for removably mounting an ornamental element to the temple piece of an eyeglass frame. In one set of preferred embodiments, a recess which receives the temple piece is defined between the element and a part. One or more machine screws are employed to secure the element on the temple piece. The orientation of the element is determined by a surface which cooperates with the temple piece. In a second set of preferred embodiments, a part with a screw receiving aperture is received in an opening or slot which has a second screw receiving aperture associated with it. A machine screw is received in the aligned apertures to secure the element to the temple piece.

  • Patent number: 5571329
Abstract: To minimize contamination of gas flow lines and reactor surfaces from high impurity concentrations present in the CVD reactor, control of the dopant gas supply is located closely adjacent to the reactor input port and the dopant gas supply line is separately vented. First and second dopant gas supplies and a diluent gas supply are connected to branch lines which converge to form the dopant supply line. A solenoid valve is situated in the main dopant supply line as close to the input port as possible. A vent line is connected to the dopant supply line, prior to the solenoid valve. The etchant and silicon gas supplies are each connected to the reactor input by a separate supply line. The etchant and silicon gas supply lines are vented separately from the dopant gas supply line.

  • Patent number: 5557815
Abstract: The edges of first and second fabric sides are joined along a seam to form an enclosure for cushion material. Tie strings extend from the seam along one end of the cushion. First and second fabric flaps are provided. Each flap is joined along three edges to the seam. One flap extends from the same end of the cushion as the tie strings. The other flap extends from the opposite end of the cushion. When located on the same side of the cushion, the flaps partially overlap and hide the underlying side from view. Reversing the positions of the flaps hides the tie strings and the other side of the cushion, converting the chair pad into a decorative pillow. If the sides have different appearances, and if the surfaces of each flap coordinate in appearance with different ones of the sides respectively, the appearance of the cushion can be changed as well, as the cushion is converted.

  • Patent number: 5484080
Abstract: The base defines a liquid retaining reservoir and has a cover with a straw containing compartment which includes a tubular section and an enlarged section. A pivotally mounted lever has a portion accessible from the exterior of the container and an interior portion situated within the enlarged section of the straw containing compartment. In the retracted position of the straw, a lid seals the straw opening in the cover and the straw seals the liquid passage between the base reservoir and the tubular section. When pivoted, the lever moves the straw up the compartment to open the lid and protrude above the cover. The interior portion of the lever is bifurcated and moves through an arcuate path. The enlarged section is shaped to accommodate this arcuate travel path.
