  • Patent number: 8109465
Abstract: An electro-magnetic landing gear up-lock includes at least one electro-magnet mounted to the aircraft structure positioned adjacent the landing gear trunion. When the at least one electro-magnet is energized, magnetically responsive material in the landing gear positioned adjacent to the electro-magnet is attracted to the electro-magnet with sufficient force to hold the landing gear in a retracted. De-energizing the electro-magnet causes the electro-magnet to release the landing gear to allow the landing gear to extend.

  • Patent number: 8100091
Abstract: A system and method for moving livestock includes a sequence of interconnected semicircular enclosures in which the periphery of each enclosure extends generally to the center of the next enclosure. At the center of each enclosure is a turret unit including a support frame, a turret frame and a panel. The panel extends generally to the edge of the enclosure. The turret frame and panel are capable of two modes of movement: a sweeping mode and a shuttle mode. In the sweeping mode, the turret frame rotates the extended panel as the panel sweeps around the semicircular enclosure. In the shuttle mode the panel is translated across the enclosure from one side of the turret frame to the other side of the turret frame. Panels can thus be alternately swept around their respective enclosures and shuttled across their respective enclosures to present translating enclosed areas for livestock as the livestock progress through a series of interconnected semicircular enclosures.

  • Patent number: 7793607
Abstract: A civil defense air powered siren includes an air powered tone generator, a compressed air tank, an air compressor, an air line with a control valve connecting between the compressed air tank and the tone generator. A pressure switch communicates with the compressor and the compressed air tank. The pressure switch activates the compressor to charge the compressed air tank when air pressure in the tank falls below a pre-selected limit. The control valve is remotely controlled preferably by a radio signal to cause the control valve to open the air line and supply the tone generator with air in order to cause a civil defense warning tone to be generated when it is appropriate to do so.

  • Patent number: 7775916
Abstract: The present invention is a system for joining tubes in a structure. The system includes hollow tubes and pressure assemblies. The tubes have tool holes spaced from the ends which are to be joined together. The pressure assemblies include members which can be spread apart by threaded inserts threaded into one of the members. The threaded inserts are spaced to correspond to the spacing between the tool holes as occurs when the tube ends are placed together. Accordingly, a pressure assembly can be inserted into adjacent tube ends and then expanded with sufficient expanding force for joining the tube ends in a rigid, strong joint. The system of the present invention may be used to make highly versatile and portable structures such as soccer goals, American football uprights and basketball goals.

  • Patent number: 7628966
Abstract: The present invention is a process for removing hydrogen sulfide gas from natural gas by contacting a flow of sour natural gas containing hydrogen sulfide gas with a scavenging agent including a group IIA metal hydroxide such as calcium hydroxide for a sufficient amount of time to form calcium sulfide and water to yield natural gas that is substantially depleted of hydrogen sulfide gas. Sour natural gas may be percolated through a column containing a scavenging agent such as calcium hydroxide suspended as a fine particulate in water or a bed of dry calcium hydroxide granules. The scavenging agent may be periodically or continuously replenished with fresh scavenging agent rich in the selected group IIA metal hydroxide.

  • Patent number: 7572353
Abstract: A process arrangement for distilling fuel grade ethanol include a distillation portion which distills beer to produce thin stillage and hot ethanol vapor. In an evaporation portion, a set of first effect evaporators which are heated either by plant steam or hot ethanol vapor, concentrate thin stillage into mid stillage while producing first effect steam. The first effect steam from the first effect evaporators provides heat to a set of second effect evaporators which concentrate the mid stillage into a syrup for further drying. The second effect evaporators produce second effect steam which is used to heat the distillation portion of the process arrangement. The multiple evaporators of the first and second effects of the evaporation portion can be selectively taken off-line for maintenance while the evaporation portion and the remainder of the process arrangement continue to operate at full capacity.
