Patent number: 4686450Abstract: A fluid flow sensor especially adapted for use in solid state electronic system. The sensor employs a heated thermistor in a first sensing network with a temperature compensation means, the two being connected in common to a sensor point. A second network includes a threshold adjusting means and a diode power supply fluctation circuit connected to a threshold point. The two networks are connected in a bridge circuit across a power supply. The thermistor responds to temperature changes associated with air flow changes to produce a change in circuit condition at the sensor point relative to the threshold point. A utility circuit responds to these changes in circuit condition to provide a desired response. The compensation network includes a plurality of diodes arranged to approximate the response of the heated thermistor to changes in power supply voltage such that the voltage at the threshold point closely tracks the voltage at the sensor point in response to any such changes.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1986Date of Patent: August 11, 1987Assignee: General Signal CorporationInventor: Alfred Pichat

Patent number: 4656313Abstract: A method, and apparatus for practicing the method, is provided for the transit of one or more cables through an opening in a bulkhead while preventing electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic pulse energy from passing through the opening. A housing of electrically conductive material is positioned in the opening and secured around its full perimeter in electrically conductive contact with the bulkhead. The sheathing of each cable is treated so that the conductive shield of each cable is exposed. The cables pass through the housing with their exposed shield being within the interior of the housing. The end portions of the housing are sealed, such as by the use of deformable material. Electrically conductive material, such as shot, granules, powder, grease, liquids or the like, is used to fill the interior of the housing to form conductive paths between the shield of each cable and the housing. The material may be in the form of particulates, semi-liquid, or liquid, including conductive coatings.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1986Date of Patent: April 7, 1987Assignee: General Signal CorporationInventors: Rogers A. Patent number: 4654644Abstract: A photoelectric smoke detector operating on a scattered light principle. The photosensor is connected at the input of an operational amplifier, such amplifier functioning as a threshold detector, saturation pulse amplifier and fixed pulse width compensator. Another feature of the invention resides in the provision of a special RC network connected from the output of a first transistor of a flasher section or subcircuit, which provides pulse power to the light source, to the input of a second transistor in such flasher circuit. As a consequence of this arrangement, when the LED serving as the light source tends to age, with a corresponding increase in its impedance, an appropriate signal is fed back from the aforenoted output of the first transistor to the input of the second, thereby to increase the pulse width of the output signal through the LED such that it is no longer, thereby compensating for the fact that it is no longer as bright.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1985Date of Patent: March 31, 1987Assignee: General Signal CorporationInventor: John J. Patent number: 4623921Abstract: A television broadcasting system uses an antenna diplexer to combine signals generated from visual and aural power amplifiers. The diplexer comprises first and second hybrids coupled together by transmission lines which have aural-frequency cavities for reflecting aural energy from an aural input port to an antenna output port of the second hybrid. In the event that the visual power amplifier fails, it is desirable to revert to multiplexed operation, in which the aural power amplifier amplifies a combined visual and aural signal. This mode of operation is accomplished by combining the low-level aural signal with the low-level visual signal, by putting the combined visual-with-aural multiplexed signal through the aural power amplifier, and by simultaneously shorting the transmission lines between the second hybrid and the aural cavities.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1985Date of Patent: November 18, 1986Assignee: General Signal CorporationInventors: Anthony N. Patent number: 4536838Abstract: A communication controller for a distributed processing system has a number of data processing stations in which messages are exchanged among the stations over a communication channel. The controller includes a communications processing unit which manages the transmission and receipt of messages. A program is provided for the communications processing unit which responds to an inbound message addressed to the associated station with its poll flag asserted to cause the station to immediately contend for use of the channel. No other station can contend for use of the channel at this time because their corresponding communication processing units responded to such inbound message as being addressed to another station. This causes a predetermined time interval to start. Each of the other units then awaits expiration of the interval before attempting to contend for use of the channel.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1983Date of Patent: August 20, 1985Assignee: MDS Qantel, Inc.Inventors: Gerhard Ringel, Gabor Fencsik

Patent number: 4323825Abstract: An electron beam deflection circuit useful in cathode ray tube displays which employ television scanning principles. The deflection circuit is characterized by transformer coupling between a source of horizontal drive signal and a switching transistor for the horizontal deflection coil. Energy stored in the transformer during the scan and retrace time is utilized during the scanning time to provide base current to the switching transistor. In addition, the transformer has a second primary winding connected in the emitter circuit of the switching transistor in a manner to allow positive feedback. The positive feedback enhances and sustains the base current during scanning time and controls its magnitude. The circuit is advantageous in that it eliminates the need for precise waveshaping circuits at the input to the switching transistor and lowers the power requirements for the circuits which precede the switching transistor.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1980Date of Patent: April 6, 1982Assignee: Mohawk Data Sciences Corp.Inventor: Robert S. Patent number: 4189998Abstract: A print hammer mechanism with a flexible interposer selectively moveable from a normal position into the path of a rotating impeller tooth which engages the interposer driving it and the associated hammer toward a print line to impact a print medium with a type die on a moving carrier. The interposer is flexible in the plane of motion of the hammer and the impeller tooth which allows slower and more controlled acceleration of the hammer and enhances the wear of the materials used to fabricate the hammer, interposer and impeller tooth. Uncontrolled oscillation of the flexible interposer and, hence, multiple strikes and multiple rebounds from the print hammer back stop are prevented by means of a mechanical linkage which captivates the interposer to the hammer for travel with the hammer but also allows the interposer to move from its normal position into the path of the impeller tooth and to return to its normal position.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1978Date of Patent: February 26, 1980Assignee: Mohawk Data Sciences Corp.Inventors: Donald R.
