Abstract: A reclining chair having a seat portion connected pivotally at its forward end includes an arm compressible with progressive resistance to support the rear of the seat portion. The compressible arm is arranged to form with the seat portion an angle which continually decreases as the chair is reclined, and continually increases as the chair is returned to its upright position. In one embodiment, the compressible arm travels through a horizontal position so that it may be kept as close as possible to the horizontal at all times.
Abstract: A tape cassette has at least one opening in a surface thereof closed by a film monolithically formed with the cassette body and which is broken by a protuberance on a tape recorder with which the cassette is used following first use of the cassette. An unbroken film is indicative of a fresh, unused cassette.
Abstract: A riddling device for processing wine according to the champagne method, with reduced energy expenditure due to a balanced assembly. The device comprises a stand, a cradle capable of pivoting through a right angle relative to the stand, and a platform capable of rotating about an axis disposed in the middle of the cradle. According to the invention the cradle (10) is tilted under the control of a vertical screw (25) and two wheels (8) disposed at its opposite end and running on two slopes (9) on the stand (1).
Abstract: A passive vehicle occupant restraint belt system comprises a movable anchor which is moved by a driven transfer element along a guide rail between a release location corresponding to the occupant-releasing configuration of the belt and a restraint location corresponding to the occupant-restraining configuration of the belt. The movable anchor is releasably locked to a fixed anchor at the restraint location by a cam-released pawl, an inertia device, or other suitable releasable locking means.
Abstract: Scaffolding that is intended for operations carried out at a certain height and involving horizontal forces as well as the recovery of these forces. The scaffolding includes a tower (5) consisting of at least one liquid-tight element (6) that can contain liquid ballast (9), means (1) of supporting the tower on the ground, and an operations deck (8) at the top of the tower.
Abstract: An assembly for stretching and securing upholstery fabric or the like in place utilizes a pair of bars contained by pockets along opposite edges of the fabric. The bars are articulatedly secured at corresponding ends thereof to a framework, and are forced apart at their opposite ends by a bendable rod which engages the free bar ends and urges them apart when the rod is straightened. The bendable rod and engaged bar ends, along with an additional upholstery bar, together sandwich fabric therebetween and secure the fabric in place. The sandwich assembly is concealed by a flap of upholstery material.
Abstract: A charging device for an electrostatic copying machine in which a tongue piece is positioned adjacent to a charging wire. A DC signal is applied to a piezoelectric element to flex the tongue piece to a position in contact with or closely adjacent to the charging wire, and a high frequency signal is superimposed onto the DC signal so as to flex and vibrate the tongue piece against the charging wire. The vibratory piezoelectric element may be fixed to and suspended from the charging wire; alternatively the piezoelectric vibratory element may support the charging wire at an intermediate portion of the charging wire.
Abstract: A composition for making impermeable walls and other underground structures comprising water, a cement, a silica compound in a dispersed form, and an activating agent selected from the group consisting of an alkaline base and an alkaline salt of a weak acid which do not contain silica, the ratio by weight of lime to silica being less than 1 and preferably between approximately 0.3 to 0.5.
Abstract: A self-oscillating vibrator exciting circuit utilizing a drive transistor that operates in a switching mode. The ON-period of the transistor is determined by base/emitter inductance and capacitance and base/collector capacitance, while the OFF-period of the transistor is determined by collector/emitter inductance and capacitance. The vibrator is connected between transistor collector and emitter, and the ON-period frequency of the transistor is set in the neighborhood of the resonance frequency of the vibrator so that the vibrator exciting circuit oscillates generally at the resonance frequency of the vibrator.

Abstract: A transducer for a stringed musical instrument includes a pair of coils mounted adjacent each string of the instrument. The coils have substantially the same number of turns of electrically conducting wire wound thereon, and the wires constituting the coils are of different gauges.
