Abstract: A system and method for facilitating communication between a CMTS and an application sever in a cable network. Customer premises equipment (CPE) generates packets that are sent through a cable modem (CM) to a cable modem termination system (CMTS). A packet is parsed by CMTS and the destination IP address and port number compared to the destination IP address-port tuples received by the CMTS from a datastore. A packet that is directed to an IP address-port tuple on the target list (a “service request packet”) is modified to incorporate CMTS-identifying information and subscriber-identifying information in the packet header. When the application server communicates with the CMTS to reserve the network resources, the application server provides the CMTS with the CM MAC and CM IP addresses to facilitate resource allocation, subscriber identification and billing.

Abstract: A change management system to synchronize the configuration of network management applications. Traditional network management systems are maintained by hand-entering device lists into individual network management applications with no common-ties between the different applications. Whenever a network management application is changed or upgraded, it frequently becomes necessary to insure that the upgrade is populated throughout the network in order for devices to talk to one another in an error free way. The present invention is a system and method that automates the change management process in a real-time using a two-way communications model that permits a central database to affect changes on all or some network management applications/systems in the field, while also allowing those same field systems to affect the central database thereby reducing the time required for updating and monitoring a system when device changes take place.

Abstract: A personal wireless gateway (PWG) comprises a host controller that bridges telecommunications devices using different transmission media allowing a telecommunications device designed for a particular media to be used to communicate over any other available media. Corded and cordless plain old telephones (POTS) may initiate and receive telephone calls over the public switched network (PSTN) or may be bridged to a mobile telephone to initiate and receive telephone calls via the mobile telephone network. A telephone configured for voice over IP (VoIP) may initiate and receive telephone calls via a broadband connection, the PTSN, or a mobile telephone network. A broadband connection may also be used to support high-speed data exchange between the Internet and one or more computer (e.g.

Abstract: The detection of devices with duplicate media access controller (MAC) addresses in a cable network. A cable network device (CND) having a MAC address is connected by the cable network to a cable modem termination system (CMTS) having a gateway interface address. A centralized storage of historical cable modem MAC address/giaddr tuple data is used to identify CNDs that report duplicate MAC addresses. The cable network tracks the CND MAC address/giaddr tuple data of all CND requests that it receives and stores the MAC address/giaddr tuple data into a datastore (such as a database). When a CND seeks to access the network, the cable network looks into the datastore to determine whether the CND MAC address of the CND has previously been stored with a different associated giaddr, which would imply that there are multiple CNDs attached to different CMTSs where the CNDs share the same MAC address. If such duplication is detected, an appropriate remedial response is taken.

Abstract: A calibration and part inspection method for the inspection of ball grid array, BGA, devices. Two cameras image a precision pattern mask with dot patterns deposited on a transparent reticle. The precision pattern mask is used for calibration of the system. A light source and overhead light reflective diffuser provide illumination. A first camera images the reticle precision pattern mask from directly below. An additional mirror or prism located below the bottom plane of the reticle reflects the reticle pattern mask from a side view, through prisms or reflective surfaces, into a second camera and a second additional mirror or prism located below the bottom plane of the reticle reflects the opposite side view of the reticle pattern mask through prisms or mirrors into a second camera. By imaging more than one dot pattern the missing state values of the system can be resolved using a trigonometric solution.

Abstract: A system and method for establishing a local page and grid numbering system (LPGNS) in a geographic referencing system. A universal page number array is defined for the geographic referencing system. Each element of the universal page number array represents a “universal” page and is assigned a universal page number. A local defining area is selected and an alignment point defined using a deterministic method. A local page block array comprising local pages for a local defining area is defined. A keystone page within the local page block array is defined and aligned with the universal page number containing the alignment point.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling a digital video recorder on a cable network. Signaling associated with the answering or initiation of a digital telephone call by a digital telephone subscriber is used to issue commands to a digital video recorder (DVR). A signal is generated by an MTA when the telephone is enters an “off-hook” state and sent to the DVR to initiate recording of a program being viewed by the called party. When the phone goes “on-hook”, the called party resumes watching the program from exactly where it was interrupted. The MTA may be connected directly to the VTD/DVR and the telephone state is determined by the DVR from information provided by the MTA. Alternatively, a soft switch monitors signaling from the MTA indicative of the state of the called telephone. A telephone state message comprising the telephone state information is then sent over an out-of-band channel/path to a DVR client within the VTD. The DVR client uses the telephone state information to control a DVR.

Abstract: A database having information sought by a consumer, a database containing consumer attributes, and a database of advertising messages are made responsive to telephone calls placed to an interactive voice response (IVR) system. Alternatively, the databases can be linked to a web site responsive to consumer input. Either system can deliver the advertising messages to the consumer. The database of consumer attributes contains information already known about the consumer that can be used to decide on which advertising message to deliver. The consumer initiates activity by calling the interactive voice response system or accessing the web site. Software identifies the consumer via the consumer-inputted identification and delivers an advertising message likely appeal to the consumer. The advertising message can include an offer to purchase a product or service. The offer can be taken during the advertising period and recorded so as to be sent to a sponsor.

Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for inputting physician notes associated with the admission, diagnosis and treatment of patients in a healthcare system. It can be used for those who are critically ill as well as those who are engaged in more routine medical care. The present invention reduces the risk of medical treatment by populating specific patient information throughout the patient care system so that current physician notes are combined with other information and made available rapidly to hospital personnel at all levels of patient care. The present invention also assists in analyzing data in relation to risk associated with management choices and managing the patient care to reduce assessed risk.

Abstract: A system and method for displaying a security alert. First and second user monitors are configured to communicate with an interrogator to establish the presence of the user monitors in a defined space. An information server is configured to determine a degree to which the users of the first and second user monitors are permitted to exchange information according to security matching criteria applied to user profiles. Security alert signals are sent to first and second match indicators. The first match indicator is visible to the user of the second user monitor so as to be informative to the user of the second user monitor of a degree to which the users of the first and second user monitors are permitted to exchange information according to the security matching criteria.

Abstract: A system and method for accounting and billing patients in a hospital environment. A hospitalized patient is associated with a patient identifier. Billable services provided to the hospitalized patient are associated with the patient identifier. If the billable service is provided by a physician, a physician identifier is also associated with the billable service. The hospitalized patient is scored and a current procedural terminology (CPT) assignment manager assigns CPT codes to the billable service. A bill generator receives the patient data, patient insurance information, physician insurance information, and CPT codes and generates a bill for the billable services provided to the hospitalized patient.

Abstract: A double hearing protection system comprises a circumaural hearing protector that covers and encircles the pinnae and an earplug device that is inserted into the ear canal. The earplug portion of the system comprises a tether that is coupled to the interior of a circumaural hearing protector. The tether retracts into the earcup when both the earplug and circumaural hearing protector are worn, ensuring that the earseal against the head is not broken by the retractable tether.

Abstract: A system and method for displaying a health status of hospitalized patients. Patient data associated with hospitalized patients is selected according to display rules. A display module selects selected patient data, applies display rules to the selected patient data, and displays the selected patient data. A smart alert module generates and applies patient specific rules to other selected patient data elements. If a patient-specific rule for a hospitalized patient has been contravened, an alert is issued from the remote command center. Graphical attributes may be assigned to patients for whom an alert has been issued and to selected patient data elements that fall outside of an acceptable range. The graphical attributes determine how selected patient data appear on a display screen.

Abstract: An order evaluation system for use in a healthcare location evaluates an order against a first set of patient assessment data elements to determine whether the order should be issued. If the order is issued, a rules generator generates a patient-specific rule that is consistent with the order. The patient-specific rule is continuously applied to a second set of patient assessment data to determine whether the rule has been contravened. If the rule is contravened, an alert is issued. An alert may direct changes in, or cancellation of, an order.

Abstract: A system and method for managing and inhibiting cardiac remodeling in MI patients. Bi-ventricular stimulation is constantly provided with and without sensing to encourage normal pumping of the heart on a consistent basis. Pulses are administered using an anodal pulse followed by a cathodal pulse to stimulate cardiac muscle contraction. Stem cells are administered to MI areas to encourage regeneration of cardiac tissue in the damaged area. Stimulation may be provided to both healthy and compromised cardiac tissue.

Abstract: A system and method for standardizing care in a hospital environment. Information concerning the latest care and practice standards for a given condition is provided to a decision support module. The decision support module comprises decision support algorithms that reflect a standardize guideline of practice for a particular medical condition. The general categories of cardiovascular, endocrinology, general, gastrointestinal, hematology, infectious diseases, neurology, pharmacology, pulmonary, renal, surgery, toxicology, trauma all have guidelines and practice standards associated with them. Patient data and user input are inputted to the decision support algorithm. The user may be prompted for user input, and an assessment is made of the patient so as provide patient care advice for the patient. Examples of patient care advice are a diagnosis, a method of treatment, and a laboratory protocol.

Abstract: A prefabricated dental implant surgical guide. The implant surgical guide comprises a tooth shaped contour which simulates a natural tooth and the final prosthesis. The tooth shaped contours can be shaped to match any tooth found in the mouth. The system further comprises apical posts which protrude from the apical aspect of the tooth contour of the surgical guide. These apical posts are capable of marking an initial osteotomy site. The apical posts are further able to be placed in to an initial and developing osteotomy site to verify proper implant location, angulation and rotational position prior to implant placement. Significantly the apical post can be attached to the surgical guide and of a fixed length. The apical post can also be adjustable allowing continuous osteotomy site verification and removable allowing an implant surgical drill to pass thru it thereby allowing continuous osteotomy site development and verification.

Abstract: Limiting RF signal reception outside of a perimeter boundary to enhance security in a wireless network. A central jamming controller (CJC) communicates with one or more access points within a wireless network to determine if link activity is present within a cell controlled by a specific access point. Link activity comprises transmissions from an authorized communication device (ACD) to the access point and transmissions from the access point to the ACD. When link activity is detected, the CJC directs a jamming antenna system to produce a jamming signal and to transmit the jamming signal outside of the perimeter boundary defined by the WLAN. The jamming signal comprises noise transmitted within the bandwidth of the channel being used by the access point and the ACD to communicate within the cell. An unauthorized communication device (UCD) outside of the perimeter boundary will be prevented from receiving the communication between the access point and the ACD because of the jamming signal.

Abstract: A method for identifying modeling characteristics of items of foliage on a piece of real property so that the property's foliage can be accurately modeled on a site model portion of an architectural model. The characteristics determined for each item of foliage is its location (in longitude and latitude within the property), type (evergreen tree, deciduous tree, shrub), and height. The determinations of characteristics are carried out via automated analysis (including spectral analysis) of satellite imagery or aerial imagery of the selected piece of real property. The height information and type information is used to select appropriate miniature foliage to model each identified foliage item, and the location information is used to place the selected miniature foliage accurately on the site model.
