Abstract: Molding compositions which are formed by first pre-reacting a thermoplastic polyester polymer or copolymer with a copolymer of ethylene and a glycidyl acrylate or methacrylate and then subsequently blending with a nucleating agent which is a Group I metal salt of a carboxylic acid to increase the crystallization rate of the polyester. At least one reinforcing component such as glass fibers or reinforcing fillers is preferred. The compositions exhibit a good balance of toughness, rigidity and gasoline resistance and are particularly useful for automotive structural parts such as inner door frames, panels, reinforcements, bumper beams, window surrounds, and other metal replacement applications.

Abstract: An improved coating composition having one or more polymeric binders dispersed in a liquid medium, wherein the improvement comprises an anti-sag and anti-settling effective amount of a copolymer comprising a polymeric backbone comprising recurring monomeric units derived from monomers selected from the group consisting of one or more .alpha.-olefins and one or more unsaturated carboxylic acids, said backbone having grafted thereto, by a covalent amide linkage, one or more polymeric grafts comprising at least one recurring monomeric unit selected from the group consisting of:--NHC(O)RC(O)NHR.sub.1 and --NH--R--C (O)--or a combination thereof, wherein R is an alkylene group of at least about 2 carbon atom, and R.sub.1 is R or aryl.
Abstract: This invention relates to a black glass fiber which is resistant to oxidation at a temperature of about 1350.degree. C. and has the empirical formula SiC.sub.x O.sub.y where x ranges from about 0.5 to about 2.0 and y ranges from about 0.5 to about 2.0. This invention also relates to a process for preparing a black glass fiber comprising reacting a silicon hydride group with a silicon olefinic group in the presence of a hydrosilylation catalyst to give a cyclosiloxane polymer. The polymer is then spun into fiber, hardened and then pyrolyzed to give a black glass fiber.
Abstract: A permanent solder mask is applied to the surface of a printed circuit board using a copper foil carrier. The solder mask preferably is one or two layers of a thermosetting resin e.g. epoxy resin. Selected circuit features are exposed by etching away portions of the copper foil and removing the underlying thermosetting resin. Then, the remaining copper foil is removed, leaving the solder mask on the surface of the printed circuit board.
Abstract: This invention relates to a carbon-carbon composite material formed by applying a vertical compressive force and a variable lateral force simultaneously to a mixture of carbon fiber and a carbon precursor material during carbonization of the mixture.
Abstract: Products for the personal care industry are formulated with gels comprising a telomer-copolymer of ethylene and a silane, and a solvent. Preferably a silicone oil or a substitute is included with sufficient solvent to provide a stable ternary gel. The gels provide the inherent advantages of silicones in such applications while reducing the amount required and improving stability of the formulations.
Abstract: An emergency release mechanism for passive seat belt systems including a housing retained in the window frame of a vehicle door, a pivotable lever in the housing about which a loop of seat belt webbing is placed, a latch normally holding the lever in its lock position and a release member for movement of the latch out of engagement with the lever in order to release the belt.
