  • Patent number: 8095109
Abstract: The application relates to charging of traffic from terminals and in particular of charging of traffic from GPRS mobile terminals which are roaming in a visited PLMN (not claimed). According to the applicant's acknowledged prior art, either the traffic passes the home PLMN or the Home Operator relies on the Visited Operator to generate the CDRs to be used by the Home Operator for billing. Whereas the first solution leads to tromboning and inefficient traffic routing, the second solution calls for a strong trust relationship between the Home and the Visited Operators. The present invention circumvents both problems in that the terminal generates a traffic counting information and sends it to the Visited Network. The Visited Network generates a traffic counting record comprising the traffic counting information from the terminal and traffic counting information from the Visited Network. The traffic counting record is subsequently sent to the Home Network.

  • Patent number: 8081975
Abstract: The invention involves uplink access management for user terminals (210, 220, 230, 240, 250, 260, 270) present in a same first cell (15) of a communication system (1) and participating in a communication session involving communication of user data on a common downlink channel to the terminals (210, 220, 230, 240, 250, 260, 270). When the terminals (210, 220, 230, 240, 250, 260, 270) want to respond to the user data transmission, they first have to request uplink access. According to the invention, at least one of the terminals (220, 230, 240) requests this uplink access using a request channel associated with a second (25, 35, 45) cell different from the current first cell (15). This reduces the risk of collision of uplink access requests on the request channel by distributing the requests over several cells (15, 25, 35, 45) instead of a single cell (15).

  • Patent number: 8072934
Abstract: A method of controlling the allocation of transmission resources to wireless terminals within a radio access network, which resources are required for the provision of an IP Multimedia service to the terminals. The method comprises, in the event of a requirement to change the allocation of transmission resources to a given wireless terminal, sending a resource allocation request from a control node of the IP Multimedia Subsystem to the radio access network, the request causing a resource control node of the radio access network to change the allocation of access network resources to the wireless terminal.

  • Patent number: 8069249
Abstract: A method and a device in a communication apparatus for maintaining an established connection between said apparatus and a network node. The connection is established by a mobility management unit for providing a mobility management procedure. An acceptance message is issued by the node in response to a request relating to a first mobility management procedure. If any request relating to a second mobility management procedure issued by an upper layer is received by the mobility management unit after the request relating to the first procedure is transmitted and before the acceptance message is received, a maintaining request to maintain the connection is transmitted to the node in response to the acceptance message.

  • Patent number: 8027272
Abstract: A portable telecommunications system (PTS), and discovery and update protocol provides an ad-hoc system in which PTS systems can detect one another over a wide area network (WAN). The system may be compact in a way that allows mobility and rapid deployment with minimal on-site configuration. PTS systems exchange multicast packets and peer-to-peer data exchanges. A protocol manager sets up these communications channels, manages exchanges between PTS systems, and passes the data to or from internal system nodes. The protocol manager also performs key oversight functions such as signaling to other systems that a PTS is joining or leaving the community, keeping track of which other PTS systems are in the community and active, and determining when data needs to be updated and exchanged.

  • Patent number: 8015225
Abstract: A non-linear processing device (1) is presented, in which fractional-delay filtering (20)—fractional as compared with a sample rate used in the processing steps—is used between successive processing steps (10). A corresponding method is also presented. The fractional delay (20) exposes the signal in-between the original samples to the non-linear processing (30, 40). A lower sample rate or a higher signal quality can thus be achieved. The so-called fractional sample delays are preferably chosen differently for different systems depending on bandwidths, number of channels, number of non-linear processing steps (10) and other varying factors. The multi-step non-linear processing (10) concept of the invention is preferably used within a cascade of non-linear modifications and/or filtering steps (10).

  • Patent number: 8014782
Abstract: The present invention relates to improvements for a fast setup of physical communication channels in a CDMA-based communication system. A Node B of a telecommunication network is permitted to manage and assign a certain share of the downlink transmission resources of a radio network controller without inquiry of said radio network controller. On reception of a resource request message from a user equipment, the node B derives and specifies a certain amount of said resources that can be allocated to the user equipment. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention said resources are only assigned temporarily until the ordinary RL setup procedure, which involves the RNC, has been successfully finished.

  • Patent number: 8005433
Abstract: A received total wideband power (61A) in a wireless communications system is measured a number of times during a time interval. Preferably, also code powers ((C/I)i) are measured, directly or indirectly. A probability distribution of a first power quantity (63A, 63B), typically total received power is estimated from the set of measurements, preferably using Kalman filtering techniques, and preferably also a probability distribution of a second power quantity (62A, 62B) related to noise and interference signals. A conditional probability distribution of a noise rise measure to be determined is based at least on the probability distribution of the total power (63A, 63B). From that conditional probability distribution, a value of the noise rise measure is calculated.

  • Patent number: 8000420
Abstract: A system and method in a radio receiver for joint synchronization and noise covariance estimation of a received signal. A spatially and temporally stacked signal model, whereby successive samples of temporally adjacent received signal vectors and corresponding training vectors are stacked, is used in the derivation of the estimation problem. The Toeplitz structure of the channel response matrix is neglected in the formulation of the estimation problem. The resulting estimator jointly estimates a synchronization position, a channel response matrix, and a noise covariance matrix. An estimate of a whitened channel is then computed based on the noise covariance matrix and the estimate of the channel response matrix.

  • Patent number: 7996537
Abstract: Illegitimate use of IP addresses is counteracted. A network (1) includes a switch (5) with ports (P1,P2,P3) to subscribers (6,6A) and a port (PN) to a core network (2) with DHCP servers (4, 4a,4b). The switch includes a database (MAC1, MAC2), port numbers (P1, P2)) and VLAN identities (VLAN1, VLAN2) for the subscribers (6, 6A) and the filter has a list over trusted DHCP servers. Initially onlY DHCP messages from the subscribers are allowed. When the subscriber (6) requests (M1, M3) for an IP address it is checked that it is a DHCP message with valid subscriber values (MAC1, P1, VLAN1). A respond (M2, M4) with an allocated IP address (IP1) and lease time interval (T1) is checked to come from a trusted DHCP server. If so, a list in the filter (9) with correct information is dynamically generated (MAC1, P1, VLAN1, IP1, T1). A message (M5) from the subscriber (6) with false IP address is discarded by the filter. Attempts by the subscriber to use false IP address are counted and a warning signal is generated.

  • Patent number: 7987366
Abstract: The invention provides an establishment of a secret session key shared Between two network elements (NEa, NEb) belonging to different network domains (NDa, NDb). A first network element (NEa) of a first network domain (NDa) requests security parameters from an associated key management center (KMC) (AAAa). Upon reception of the request, the KMC (AAAa) generates a freshness token (FRESH) and calculates the session key (K) based on this token (FRESH) and a master key (KAB) shared with a second network domain (NDb). The security parameters are (securely) provided to the network element (NEa), which extracts the session key (K) and forwards the freshness token (FRESH) to the KMC (AAAb) of the second domain (NDb) through a second network element (NEb). Based on the token (FRESH) and the shared master key (KAB), the KMC (AAAb) generates a copy of the session key (K), which is (securely) provided to the second network element (NEb).
