  • Patent number: 5379533
Abstract: A fluid filled amusement or attention attracting article for attachment to footwear is comprised of at least one fluid filled chamber secured to the exterior of the footwear. The fluid filled chamber is constructed of a flexible transparent material and contains a fluid that is visible from the exterior of the chamber. The liquid is brightly colored and serves as an attention attracting device for attracting the attention of motorists to a pedestrian wearing the shoe employing the article. The fluid filled chamber also serves as an amusement device where the fluid contained in the chamber is caused to flow through the chamber by manipulation of the flexible chamber sidewalls and the flow of fluid is both visible and sensed by touch.

  • Patent number: 5379922
Abstract: The present invention provides an inexpensive adjustable dispensing container having a tubular body with its opposite ends closed and with a side opening extending through the body to its interior volume. A collar is secured over the side opening to prevent the unintentional dispensing of the container's contents through the opening. A frangible connection maintains the collar in its closed position over the side opening and when broken enables the collar to be moved over the tubular body to adjustably open the side opening and permit dispensing of the container contents. The friction engagement of the collar on the tubular body maintains the collar in its adjusted position relative to the body side opening.

  • Patent number: 5377467
Abstract: A locking element for securing edges of adjoining partition wall plates of the kind where two plasterboard plates are held spaced apart by cellular transverse ribs thereby to form a space between the plasterboard plates is disclosed. The locking element is completely insertable into the space adjacent an edge of a partition wall plate. The locking element comprises a guide casing having a width corresponding to the space between the plasterboard plates, and a pressure member between two positions wherein the pressure member in one end position projects beyond the edge of the partition wall plate and can be pressed against a spring force into the casing to a position fully housed in the guide casing in which the pressure member is received completely within the casing, at which housed position the pressure member can be engaged.

  • Patent number: 5376072
Abstract: A pill crushing syringe includes a barrel and a plunger, with abraded surfaces on each so that a pill placed in the barrel is crushed as the plunger advances within the barrel. The barrel has an aperture located near the closed end with a catheter connected around and extending from the aperture. The plunger has a sealing gland to provide an airtight seal with the barrel so that liquid may be drawn into the barrel through the aperture by withdrawing the plunger from the barrel to thereby suspend the crushed pill in the liquid, and the suspension may be flushed from the barrel by thereafter advancing the plunger into the barrel.

  • Patent number: 5375769
Abstract: A mixing and dispensing sprayer apparatus is comprised of a bottle or container and a nozzle assembly where a fluid passed through the nozzle assembly mixes with a material contained in the container and the mixture of fluid and material then passes from the container back into the fluid flow through the nozzle assembly and exits the nozzle assembly as a spray. The container and nozzle assembly are molded as a single unit of a plastic material by a blow molding process. A hollow interior volume of the container communicates with a fluid conducting channel of the nozzle assembly through one or more ports formed in the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5373951
Abstract: A laundry room support rack has a wire frame shelf supported by wire frame sides. Each wire frame side has three wire segments. A horizontal segment extends in the front to back direction. A vertical segment extends up from the back end of the horizontal segment. And a diagonal segment extends between an upper end of the vertical segment and a forward end of the horizontal segment. A cross member extends between the opposite upper ends, and has apertured portions for receiving wall fasteners. A front U-shaped segment has arms securely engaging the frame sides at positions near the front ends. The U-shaped segment has a horizontal base segment that permits the hanging of garment hangers thereon. The frame sides gain strength from the diagonal segments for supporting loads on the shelf and the horizontal base segment.

  • Patent number: 5373973
Abstract: A dispenser assembly for dispensing liquid from a container has a dispenser operable remotely from the container by way of a tube communicating the dispenser and the liquid within the container. The dispenser assembly has a hand-held dispenser and a tube connected to the dispenser for extension into the liquid within the container. The dispenser is operable to dispense liquid from the container by way of the tube. An adaptor is secured to the container with the tube operable for extending from the dispenser, through the adaptor, and into the container. With the dispenser disconnected from the adaptor and with the adaptor secured to the container, the dispenser may be operated remotely from the container to dispense the liquid from the container.

  • Patent number: 5372192
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a drag block that is attached over the exterior of, or screwed onto as an integral part of, oil well production tubing to increase the fluid resistance of the tubing. The increased fluid resistance of the tubing slows its descent through an oil or gas well filled or partially filled with fluid, thereby reducing the risk of damage to the casing, tubing or the well itself when a string of production tubing is inadvertently dropped through the well and hits bottom.

  • Patent number: 5370658
Abstract: A microsurgical instrument is comprised of a handle and a plurality of interchangeable instrument heads. Each of the instrument heads is constructed to perform a microsurgical operation such as forcep clamping and scissors cutting in a plane parallel to a longitudinal axis of the instrument, and in a plane positioned at an angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the instrument. The instrument handle is comprised of an exterior surface formed as at least two lever arms that are manually manipulable laterally toward and away from the longitudinal axis of the instrument to control the surgical operation performed by the instrument head connected with the handle. Because the entire handle exterior surface is manipulated to operate the instrument head connected with the handle, the instrument need not be held at any specific orientation relative to the hand in order to easily operate the instrument head by manipulating the fingers of the hand.

  • Patent number: 5370268
Abstract: A remotely operable drum punch for puncturing a drum or container containing hazardous waste, chemicals, or acid consists of a drive which drives a punch head and self-admixing arms for securing the drum punch to the drum. The drive is remotely operable to drive both the self-affixing arms and the punch head so that the drum punch may be secured to the drum from afar. The punch head includes a collar, which may be movable, to form a seal with the top of the drum. The punch head also includes bores to allow the sampling, testing and exhausting of the drum's contents or to introduce agents, such as neutralizing or foaming or gelling agents, into the drum to neutralize or solidify the drum's contents. Inert gases can also be introduced into the drum.

  • Patent number: 5368234
Abstract: A nozzle assembly for a trigger sprayer having a cap rotatable relative to a housing to establish the spray character of the fluid discharged and a slot and cam follower connection between the trigger sprayer housing and the cap with the cam shaped to impart an "off" condition, a gradually increasing spray condition, a combination spray and stream condition of gradually reversed relative influence, and a stream only condition. The different flow conditions are established by the interrelationship between a spinner head section and the cap that is rotatable along a path controlled by the cam and cam follower.

  • Patent number: 5365586
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for determining the remanent noise in a magnetic medium by DC saturation of a region thereof and measurement of the remaining DC magnetization. A conventional magnetic recording transducer may be used to determine the remanent noise. Upon determination, the remanent noise may then be digitized and recorded on the same magnetic medium to thereby "fingerprint" the magnetic medium. This "fingerprint" may then be later used to verify and authenticate the magnetic medium as being an original. In such manner, any magnetic medium, or any object having an associated magnetic medium, may be "fingerprinted" including credit cards, computer programs, compact discs, videotapes, cassette tapes, etc.
