  • Patent number: 5540550
Abstract: A solid impeller is disclosed having a disk-shaped impeller body having an inlet section extending along the impeller axis of rotation. A plurality of discharge passages extend radially and having inlet and discharge ports. The inlet port has an opening verge face which is oblique to the rotational axis. The solid impeller may also comprise a disk-shaped impeller body having an inlet section extending along the axis of rotation of the impeller and plural discharge passages extending radially. It further has inlet and discharge ports which have a tapered shape so that the section area of the discharge passage is gradually reduced in the outward direction. The thickness of the body is also gradually reduced in the outward direction. The solid impeller may also comprise a cylindrically-shaped center body and plural arms on a peripheral surface of the body. These extend radially in an outward direction from the body and include a discharge passage which extends along a longitudinal direction of the arm.

  • Patent number: 5538740
Abstract: An active ingredient for a therapeutic or cosmetic composition is obtained from live gastropoda (e.g., snails) which are physically stimulated (e.g., by centrifuging) to cause secretion of a fluid which is then centrifuged and filtered. Preferably the gastropoda are fasted prior to the physical stimulation. The therapeutic or cosmetic compositions contain about 0.1-30% of the active ingredient which is a mixture of amino acids and atoxic substances, an effective amount of an excipient preferred for use with biologically active ingredients, and other conventional ingredients provided they do not affect the stability and/or the activity. The therapeutic composition, in the form of a topical cream, can be used to treat various types of burns, dermatitis, eczema, diaper rash, and difficult to heal wounds. It can also be used to prevent skin cancer and radiodermatitis. The cosmetic composition can be used as hand and face creams, an anti-wrinkle cream, a sunscreen cream, a moisturizing lotion, and a deodorant.

  • Patent number: 5533520
Abstract: The sensor is intended preferably for use in conjunction with a heart pacemaker whose stimulation rate is variable in dependence on the physical activity of the wearer. The sensor includes a mass of mercury which, in use, can assume a shape determined by the gravitational force and variable as a result of the forces applied to the mass due to movement. Detector means sensitive to the variations in shape generate signals which can be used as activity monitoring signals.

  • Patent number: 5516501
Abstract: Processes for preparing a relatively concentrated aqueous solution of about 700-3000 ppm hyprobromous acid are provided. Hypochlorous acid solutions are prepared by either reacting chlorine gas with water or sodium hypochlorite with an acid. The resulting hypochlorous acid is then reacted with an alkali metal or alkaline earth bromide in order to form the hypobromous acid. Critical parameters are pH, Br/Cl mole ratio, and chlorine concentration. Under optimum conditions, substantially 100% conversion of bromide to hypobromous acid can be attained.

  • Patent number: 5514888
Abstract: A first P-type diffusion layer is formed on a semiconductor substrate. A photodiode is formed thereon. A transfer channel is formed on the semiconductor substrate. Agate insulating film is grown from a silicon oxide film on the semiconductor substrate. A transfer gate electrode is formed on the gate insulating film by patterning polysilicon. A light-shielding film of a metallic evaporation film is formed on the transfer gate electrode so that light cannot enter the transmission channel only to be a smear component. A difference in level of about 2 to 4 .mu.m is formed on the semiconductor substrate of the transfer channel due to the transfer gate electrode and the light-shielding film. An underlying smooth layer is formed to smooth the surface difference in level, and a first light-shielding layer is formed on it. A transparent film is formed on it, and a third light-shielding layer is formed via a second light-shielding layer and a transparent film.

  • Patent number: 5512769
Abstract: A high breakdown voltage semiconductor device is constituted, in either a semiconductor substrate or a lightly doped well diffused layer having deep diffusion depth, of a heavily doped diffused layer as a heavily doped drain diffused layer, a lightly doped diffused layer having deeper diffusion depth that the heavily doped diffused layer, and a lightly doped diffused layer adjacent to the heavily doped diffused layer called as an offset diffused layer. The heavily doped diffused layer functions as a part of the drain diffused layer, and has depth around 0.3 to 0.6 micron meter, and impurity concentration of 10.sup.19 to 10.sup.20 impurities/cm.sup.3. The width of the heavily doped diffused layer is set to 4 to 5 micron meters or greater. If the width of the heavily doped diffused layer is set less than this value, the breakdown voltage at an edge is lowered, and thereby impairment of the breakdown voltage occurs. The lightly doped diffused layer also functions as a part of the drain diffused layer.

  • Patent number: 5511038
Abstract: A process for preparing vertical seismic profiles (VSP) by bore drilling using, as the seismic source, the vibrations generated by the drilling bit. A cross-correlation between the bit signal and the signals collected by seismic geophone lines, is determined in which the bit signal is processed by arranging a plurality of several types of detectors on the bore drilling facility. A plurality of traces are recorded, in which the signal/noise components have different characteristics. These can be separated by means introducing filter functions by operating either on their Fourier Transforms or on the basis of their statistic distribution.

  • Patent number: 5510562
Abstract: A processing cycle for separating C.sub.8 aromatics (mixtures of ortho-, para-, meta-xylene and ethylbenzene) is disclosed, in which a first subdivision of the mixture is preformed into two streams respectively comprising: para-xylene and ethylbenzene as the first stream; and meta- and ortho-xylene as the second stream followed by a separation of the first stream by rectification, during which ethylbenzene within specifications is obtained as the overhead fraction, with the second stream also being sent to a separation by rectification, with ortho-xylene within specifications being obtained as the bottom fraction. The possible content of C.sub.9 species can be furthermore removed by subsequent distillation.
