Patent number: 4960077Abstract: An animal collar for controlling fleas and ticks which is formed as an elongated strip with fasteners at the ends thereof. The strip is a plastic material with an effective amount of pesticide dispersed therethrough and has a substantial cross section with a breaking strength such that the strip cannot be broken should the animal hang by the collar. The strip has at least one break point of greatly reduced cross section to provide for a fracture of the plastic strip. The fracture strength at the break point is determined by a dropped weight of about 60 percent of the weight that would cause fracture in straight gently applied tension. The collar is described as having two break points, each positioned opposite each other when the collar is fastened around the neck of the animal.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1989Date of Patent: October 2, 1990Assignee: Combe IncorporatedInventors: Herbert Lapidus, George F. Patent number: 4952445Abstract: A strong marble tile trim for providing a smooth transition at an inside corner between two tile walls and at an outside corner for a termination point of tile, is shown in which the tile trim is made from permanently bonded strips with one of the strips having an exposed face formed as a quarter-round surface having a radius in the range of about 2.0 to 3.3 times the thickness of the tile. The method of making the strip is described in which two standard tiles have their major faces placed against permanently bonding mortar and, after being bonded, they are cut into strips and one of said strips has formed thereon, by grinding, either a concave or a convex surface having a radius in the range of about 2.0 to 3.3 times the thickness of the tile for which it has been formed, yet still within one tile thickness.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1989Date of Patent: August 28, 1990Inventor: Rick A. Patent number: 4724772Abstract: A ski comprising a guide pipe (2) guiding a string of elements that transmit a towing force to any conventional towing device attached to the string at suitable intervals. Instead of being a tension element like a wire, a rope or the like, which is conventional in known ski tows, the string consists of separate pressure elements (7), each having at either end an end face contacting the opposed end face of an adjacent element, whereby the towing force is transmitted by pushing the string, which is accordingly subjected to a compression force.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1986Date of Patent: February 16, 1988Inventor: Harald Krogsrud

Patent number: 4651171Abstract: An improved vacuum system for a system for accurately tracing on an electron sensitive film with an electron beam which passes through three (3) adjacent vacuum stages and where each stage has a predetermined vacuum level is disclosed herein. The vacuum system is a high performance, fully automatic, three (3) stage, differentially pumped system. Two (2) stages of the system each use a diffusion pump as a first pump means. The diffusion pump of the second stage is backed by a single direct drive mechanical pump and also acts as the backing pump for the diffusion pump of the first stage. The third stage uses a single direct drive mechanical pump for vacuum pumping its chamber.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1985Date of Patent: March 17, 1987Assignee: Image Graphics, Inc.Inventor: Andrew A. Patent number: 4640430Abstract: A moulded screw-cap for a container has a plurality of screw-thread ridges 24 formed internally of the skirt 19 of the cap each ridge having helical first portion 25 extending away from the top 18 and a second portion 26 of substantially zero helix angle. The circumferential distance A between the nose 28 of portion 26 and the line 29 of the lower face of portion 25 of each ridge 24 is less than the circumferential distance between the thread ridges on the container. A transition portion 27 is provided between portions 25 and 26 and, during application of the cap to a container allows the portions 26 to drop into the gaps between adjacent thread ridges on the container sufficiently to bring the upper surfaces of portion 26 into correct position for engagement with complementary inclined surfaces of the projections on the container, so that no downward pressure need be applied to the cap.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1985Date of Patent: February 3, 1987Assignee: M C G Plastics LimitedInventor: Peter R. Haines

Patent number: 4640810Abstract: A system for forming an air laid web of fibers and/or particles on a moving foraminous carrier. Fibers and/or particles are blended, and while supported in an air stream, introduced into a distributor unit. The distributor unit includes a rotatable cylinder formed with classification apertures of a predetermined shape, number, and size as specifically related to the types of fibers and/or particles utilized. A rotatable shaft with radially extending wire-like members agitates the fibers and/or particles and throws them outwardly through the apertures. Downwardly directed air flow transports the refined fibers and/or particles so as to form a homogeneous, still further refined, web on the surface of the carier. A variety of adjustments and alternations can be made to the system and its components to control the composition and thickness of the end product, and to attain maximum capacity for any combination of fibers and/or particles.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1984Date of Patent: February 3, 1987Assignee: Scan Web of North America, Inc.Inventors: Henning Laursen, John Mosgaard, Otto V. Nielson, Clark L. Poland

Patent number: 4632880Abstract: A new dental adhesive device to hold and cushion prosthetic devices in the human mouth is made as a laminate of webs which are bonded together by thermoplastic ethylene oxide polymer. The dental adhesive exemplified is produced by continuously applying thermoplastic ethylene oxide polymer between moving webs of cellulose acetate fibers, and thence passing said webs in superimposed relationship between a pair of dry heated calendar rolls for thermoplastically bonding said web into a unitary structure. A dry water-activated adhesive material such as sodium alginate may be admixed with the thermoplastic ethylene oxide polymer and applied to the moving webs before passing between the calendar rolls. It is also contemplated that the synthetic fibers be applied to the webs so as to extend transversely through the webs with the free ends of the fibers from each web being entangled so as to be mechanically interlocked.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1985Date of Patent: December 30, 1986Assignee: Combe IncorporatedInventor: Herbert Lapidus

Patent number: 4591463Abstract: A process and apparatus for heating fluids to a relatively high temperature, such as sterilization temperature, in which the fluid, such as a liquid, is heated by direct contact with steam while it is in the form of a very thin, free-falling film or a continuous falling stream so that heating of the fluid is accomplished without the fluid coming into contact with any surface and particularly metal surfaces which are hotter than the fluid product being heated and with minimum agitation and turbulence of the fluid product. This procedure enables maximum and uniform heat penetration in a minimum time interval with the film or stream being maintained as thin as possible and unbroken by introducing steam at a relatively low velocity in a large volume vessel.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1984Date of Patent: May 27, 1986Assignee: DASI Industries, Inc.Inventors: John E.
