  • Patent number: 6635272
Abstract: A dressing and method of treating wounds is provided. The dressing can comprise water-soluble or swellable polymers capable of forming viscous aqueous or non-aqueous solution and form a gel, and which may be dehydrated and milled to form a powder. The dressing can be constructed in the form of a sponge or sheet impregnated with the gel, or may contain a tooth-whitener, and may be coated onto a non-porous, porous or micro-porous backing. Wounds treated with dressings in accordance with embodiment of the invention will tend to heal without the formation of a typical hard scab. The dressing may also be covered with a protective coating such as a cyanoacrylic liquid or spray, or may be attached to a backing such as an adhesive bandage to protect the wound from an excessively fluids environment and from mechanical stresses.

  • Patent number: 6635882
Abstract: The invention relates to a gantry system for adjusting and aligning an ion beam onto a target from a freely determinable effective treatment angle. The ion beam therein is introduced in the horizontally arranged gantry rotation axis of the gantry system and is firstly deflected away from the gantry rotation axis by means of magnetic optics. The ion beam is then so aligned onto a target at adjustable angles of from 0 to 360° around the gantry rotation axis that the ion beam intersects the gantry rotation axis in the isocentre of the gantry system. Besides the gantry, the gantry system has a target carrier system having a rotatable target carrier, the carrier rotation axis of which is arranged in the isocentre in a vertical direction with the respect to the gantry rotation axis. The final deflection magnet so deflects the ion beam that the ion beam intersects the gantry rotation axis in the isocentre at an angle of between greater than or equal to 45° and less than 90°.

  • Patent number: 6630223
Abstract: A fabric for the forming, press and dryer sections of a paper machine, for use as a reinforcing base for a polymeric-resin-coated paper-processing belt or as a corrugator belt, or in other industrial settings where a material is being dewatered, is formed from a monofilament yarn, which is spirally wound in the form of a closed helix, adjacent turns thereof being abutted against and joined securely to one another. The monofilament yarn has a first side and a second side which are oppositely and correspondingly shaped, so that, when spirally wound in a plurality of turns, the first side fits closely into or against the second side of an adjacent and abutting turn, and adjacent spiral turns are secured to one another at the abutting first and second sides to form the fabric.

  • Patent number: 6627045
Abstract: A corrugator belt for a corrugator machine has a base joined into endless from by means of a clipper seam. The base has a first end and a second end, and a first side and a second side. A strip of compressible material wraps around each of the first and second ends from the first side to the second side, and the clipper hooks for the clipper seam are installed over the strips at each end. The compressible material of the strips protrudes between adjacent clipper hooks to prevent corrugated paper board being manufactured using the corrugator belt from firmly contacting the clipper hooks and being marked and otherwise damaged by them.

  • Patent number: 6626173
Abstract: A dry powder inhaler having a housing, at least one single dose storage chamber able to contain a single unit dose, a discharge path adjacent the storage chamber, and a flexible and bendable seal plate closing the discharge path. When an air flow under pressure is applied to the top of the dose, the top seal is broken and the dose is driven against the seal plate which deflects away, allowing the powder of the dose to be driven into and along the discharge path. The air flow causes the seal plate (in the discharge path) to vibrate, which acts to break up the dose into particles of preferred size, as the dose is carried along with the air flow and delivered to a patient.

  • Patent number: 6601927
Abstract: To provide a technique capable of detecting lifting of a rear wheel of a two-wheeled vehicle correctly and rapidly. An estimated vehicle speed is generated by selecting the larger one of wheel speed Vf, Vr of a rear wheel and a front wheel, and attention is paid to an estimated vehicle deceleration which is computed based on the estimated vehicle speed and it is judged that lifting of the rear wheel has occurred when a degree of lowering of the estimated vehicle deceleration is a predetermined value or larger.

  • Patent number: 6600164
Abstract: A method for the operation of an ion beam therapy system that comprises a grid scanner device, arranged in a beam guidance system (6, 8), having vertical deflection means (13) and horizontal deflection means (14) for the vertical and horizontal deflection of a treatment beam (11) perpendicular to its beam direction, with the result that the treatment beam (11) is deflected by the grid scanner device to an isocentre (10) of the irradiation site and scans a specific area surrounding the isocentre (10). For monitoring the operational stability and operational safety of the therapy system, the beam position of the treatment beam (11) in the region of the isocentre (10) is monitored and evaluated, intervention in the ion beam therapy system being carried out if the evaluation of the beam position shows a departure, from a predetermined desired value, that exceeds a specific tolerance value based on a required half-value width of the beam profile.

  • Patent number: 6592826
Abstract: In a vacuum chamber, which has at least two vacuum regions, substances, especially fluids, are transported in a directed manner from one region into the other region by the application of a suitable vacuum. As a result, it is possibly by the use of filter supports or receiver supports to transport a fluid automatically through corresponding filter supports during a plasmid preparation. The vacuum chamber is charged by means of a gripping robot that operates automatically and is switched by a suitable valve control means. By incorporating the vacuum chamber with its gripping robot and the control means into a pipetting robot system, automatic plasmid preparation, for example in accordance with the Qiagen protocol, is possible.
