Abstract: A preparation and method for suppressing skin eruptions caused by herpes simplex virus in a human subject, comprising butylated hydroxytoluene in solution with oleum melaleucae alternifolia.
Abstract: An electronically controlled variable gain amplifier is disclosed which provides an output signal proportional to the value of an input signal multiplied by a gain factor, where the gain factor is in turn logarithmically proportional to the value of a gain control signal in the form of a digital word. The amplifier includes a capacitor, a sampler for periodically sampling the value of the input signal and storing the sampled value as a voltage on the capacitor, and circuits for periodically exponentially charging the capacitor after the input signal has been stored thereon for a duration which is directly proportional to the magnitude of the gain control signal. Also included is a circuit for periodically sampling and holding the voltage stored on the capacitor after each periodic charge, where the sampled and held voltage is the amplifier output signal.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for providing text information which identifies audio program selections, such as musical selections, stored on a compact disk (CD). Digital identification numbers encoded on the disk are provided by a compact disk player to a digital processor having a memory storage device. The identification numbers include an album identification number, and the track number selected for play. The memory storage device has stored therein text data identifying a plurality of program selections, organized by album and track identification number. The identification signals provided by the CD player are used to address the proper identifying text data for the selection being played. The identifying text data may be organized for radio broadcast along with the musical selection, and a receiver is used to display the data in text form to identify the musical selection as it is being reproduced.
Abstract: A broadcast receiver is disclosed which is powered by a solar cell in combination with a rechargeable battery mounted within a waterproof housing which is adapted for attachment to a lounge chair used for suntanning. The control of power, tuning and volume functions is accomplished using photodetectors mounted within and adjacent transparent areas of the housing. User operated shutters mounted external to the housing shield selective photodetectors from ambient light. A separate data entry shutter is used to enable memory circuits which store control signals corresponding to the shielded photodetectors. The stored control signals are used to control the operating functions of the receiver. Audio signals are inductively coupled through the housing to external headphones.
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for transmitting and receiving auxiliary data in addition to regular audio broadcast programs including musical selections and announcements. The auxiliary data includes musical selection identification such as title, artist and album name. Receiver circuits are disclosed for displaying the auxiliary data, for selecting and storing the data along with a portion of the musical selecting which it identifies, and for recalling the stored data and musical selection portion. Transmitter circuits are disclosed for transmitting the auxiliary data without using the SCA portion of the broadcast band. Also disclosed are apparatus and methods for automatically generating the auxiliary data using a compact disc player.
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for broadcasting auxiliary data in an FM stereo broadcasting system. The auxiliary data is broadcast in addition to regular audio broadcast programs including musical selections, and includes data which identifies the musical selections. Embodiments are disclosed for broadcasting the auxiliary data during, immediately prior to and immediately following the broadcast of musical selections, without the need to use the SCA portion of the broadcast band.

Abstract: An antenna tuning system and method are disclosed for use with a tunable receiver coupled to an external antenna, where the receiver has a local oscillator whose frequency is a function of the frequency to which the receiver is tuned. The tuning system includes circuitry for receiving the radio frequency emissions from the local oscillator, and for determining the frequency of those emissions. From the local oscillator frequency, the frequency to which the receiver is tuned is determined, and the antenna is tuned to match that frequency.
Abstract: An improved auto-equalizer technique is disclosed for use in two-way communications systems having terminals which are connected by a communications link having distortion characteristics which are substantially identical for signals traveling in either direction. The technique includes a master modem which is always first to transmit in the system, and one or more remote modems. Each remote modem includes an adaptive filter in the receiver section of the modem which adaptively sets its filter characteristics to be the inverse of the line distortion characteristics. Each remote modem also includes a slave filter in the transmitter section which is also set have filter characteristics which are substantially the same as that of the adaptive filter. The slave filter acts to pre-distort the signals transmitted from the remote modem so that they arrive at the master modem substantially undistorted.
