  • Patent number: 5042711
Abstract: A multi-gauge composite metal strip is produced from a plurality of individual metal strips of different thicknesses. The individual strips are heated, passed through an oxide reducing atmosphere and are then directed between a pair of work rolls with their adjacent edges arranged in a mutually overlapping relationship. The rolling action effects a reduction in the thickness of each strip while simultaneously effecting solid phase bonding of their overlapping edges. The resulting composite multi-gauge strip is subjected to tensile stresses which exceed the yield strength of the strip materials at the time and in the condition at which the composite strip exits from between the work rolls.

  • Patent number: 4935261
Abstract: A method of optically controlling the volume of adhesive extruded from an orifice. A camera continuously monitors the adhesive discharged from the orifice; this adhesive is not applied to the target area until its volume is within preestablished limits. When the volume of adhesive is visually determined to be acceptable it is then applied to the target area. The camera is used again, to confirm the proper amount of adhesive has been applied to the target area by measuring the volume of adhesive remaining on the orifice after contacting the target area.

  • Patent number: 4910987
Abstract: In a rolling mill, for use in combination with a rotatable shaft protruding from a housing, with a work roll mounted on the shaft for rotation therewith exteriorly of the housing, a seal assembly is disclosed for establishing a seal between the shaft and the housing. The seal assembly comprises a circular flinger mounted on the shaft for rotation therewith at a location interposed axially between the work roll and the housing. The flinger has an annular contact surface extending radially from the roll shaft and facing toward the housing. A seal end plate is fixed to the housing and carries a seal holder which has a circular groove facing toward the contact surface. A resilient seal has a circular base received in the circular groove and a pair of flanges extending from the seal holder to terminate at radially spaced edges in sealing contact with the contact surface along inner and outer radially spaced circular lines.

  • Patent number: 4907365
Abstract: An electrocuting grid for an electronic insect trap, wherein first and second circular electrically conductive carrier members are arranged concentrically in an axially spaced relationship to define a cylindrical zone therebetween. First and second electrodes respectively extend laterally from the first and second carrier members into the cylindrical zone. The first and second electrodes are arranged circumferentially in a mutually spaced alternating sequence, with their ends spaced respectively from the second and first carrier members. Dielectric strand material interconnects the first and second electrodes. The invention also encompasses a method for fabricating the electrocuting grid which includes a plurality of steps performed on a strip of electrically conductive sheet material.

  • Patent number: 4907779
Abstract: A valve device has a multi-part housing containing a servo-valve with a stem which is axially displaced to operate the valve and an electromagnet with a rod-like armature which is axially displaced when the electromagnet is energized. A pivotable lever translates the axial movement of the armature to the stem. For adjustment purpose, an adjustment member is in screw-threaded engagement with the lever remote from the stem. The armature is locked for rotation with the adjustment member. A regulator at the opposite end of the armature to the lever and accessible from the exterior serves to enable the armature to be partially rotated for effecting the adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4906335
Abstract: An apparatus for doctoring a cylindrical rotating surface, comprising a doctor back mounted for rotation about a first axis, and a blade carrier assembly mounted on the doctor back for rotation about a second parallel axis. A doctor blade is removably supported by the blade carrier assembly and is loaded against the rotating surface by a force applied to rotate the doctor back about the first axis. A liquid filled flexible walled tube extends along the second axis between the doctor back and the blade carrier assembly. The blade angle is adjusted by expanding and contracting the liquid filled tube to rotate the blade carrier about the second axis.

  • Patent number: 4899859
Abstract: To incorporate a viscous coupling type power transmission apparatus for a four-wheel driven automotive vehicle with an antiskid braking system, viscous torque transmission from a first rotary transmission shaft (coupled to the front wheel shaft) to a second rotary transmission shaft (coupled to the rear wheel shaft) is intermitted by a clutch mechanism provided for the power transmission apparatus whenever a foot brake is applied. That is, when a foot brake pressure is applied to the brake member of the power transmission apparatus, the clutch mechanism is disengaged via a cam ring to decouple the first rotary transmission shaft from the second rotary transmission shaft.

  • Patent number: 4898479
Abstract: In a bearing assembly for a roll neck in a rolling mill, an inner seal ring is mounted with an interference fit as by shrink fitting, on an end portion of an inner bearing component, e.g., the sleeve of an oil film bearing or the inner race of a roller bearing. The end portion of the inner bearing component is suitably dimensioned and configured to deflect radially inwardly under the influence of hoop stresses developed as a result of the aforesaid interference fit, thereby causing the inner seal ring to be inclined towards the roll end face. The end portion of the inner bearing component has an outer diameter which is larger than the outer diameter of the remainder of the inner bearing component.

  • Patent number: 4895556
Abstract: Seals are formed in bags made from a flexible web. The sealing element is a heated wire. The thermal conductivity of the wire is selected in reference to the melt and tack characteristics of the film being sealed such that when the film is placed in heat-exchange relationship with the wire, the film is sealed. Futher, at least a portion of the film travels on the sealing element. The resistance across the sealing element remains constant during sealing and while the web travels sequentially.

  • Patent number: 4888891
Abstract: The invention relates to a track maintenance vehicle having a levelling attachment secured to a transverse carrier member at its rear. The levelling attachment faces downwards and is at least partially flexible. For achieving satisfactory levelling of relatively loose snow as well as of encrusted or compacted snow, the levelling attachment comprises a leading portion of triangular cross-sectional shape secured to the transverse carrier member along a first triangle side. The second triangle side of this portion is formed as a rigid compaction surface extending downwards and rearwards from the transverse carrier member. Connected to a rear portion of the compaction surface is a plate-shaped flexible portion extending substantially parallel to the second triangle side in the relaxed state, and in a substantially horizontal direction when under load.
