Patent number: 4958663Abstract: A multi-layer angle interlock fabric is woven from warp yarns that extend in straight fashion in a common direction along the length of the fabric and fill yarns which repeatedly extend through the thickness of the fabric along angled paths between opposite broad surfaces of the fabric and interweave within the relatively straight warp yarns. The fabric can be woven using a conventional fly shuttle loom with a programmable Jacquard machine which controls the loom's harness lines to selectively raise and lower the fill yarns extending through a weaving area of the loom as the loom shuttle reciprocates through the weaving area to repeatedly extend a fill yarn across the width of the fabric being formed. Stuffer yarns can be provided by periodically extending the fill yarn across the fabric width betweem adjacent sheets of the warp yarns during weaving.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1988Date of Patent: September 25, 1990Assignee: HitcoInventors: Wilbur T. Patent number: 4884261Abstract: In a magnetic disk storage system, a hinged separator element having a plurality of angled surfaces is movable between first and second positions. In the first position, the disk storage system is in an operational state with magnetic transducers loaded onto the surfaces of rigid magnetic disks and a carriage which mounts cantilevered beams for the transducers being free to move radially relative to the disks. In the second position, carriage motion is inhibited by the separator element which engages the cantilevered beams to raise the transducers away from the surfaces of the disks and into unloaded positions. A spring loaded trigger member which normally engages the separator element to latch the separator element in either of the first and second positions is momentarily disengaged from the separator element to permit movement of the separator element from the first to the second position by the spring or from the second to the first positions in response to movement of the carriage.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1988Date of Patent: November 28, 1989Assignee: Tandon CorporationInventor: Warren L. Patent number: 4877640Abstract: Metal particles in powdered form are cleaned of oxides by a method in which the particles are introduced into a plasma stream in the presence of a continuous negative transfer arc. Ionization of a gas within a plasma gun produces a plasma stream into which the metal particles are introduced at a location within the plasma gun. A negative transfer arc power source is continuously coupled between the plasma gun and a cathode downstream of the plasma gun and within the plasma stream to remove oxide coatings from the metal particles as they travel along the plasma stream to either a receptacle located downstream from the cathode or to a substrate which forms the cathode and onto which a relatively oxide-free coating is formed by the metal particles. Such methods of oxide removal are particularly effective with highly oxidizable refractory materials such as titanium, tantalum and aluminum.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1988Date of Patent: October 31, 1989Assignee: Electro-Plasma, Inc.Inventors: Erich Muehlberger, Albert Sickinger

Patent number: 4856395Abstract: This invention relates to a cutting mechanism and its method of operation in "cutting side-lock" portions from "green state" roofing tiles. The tiles are manufactured in a conventional concrete roofing tile making plant in which mortar fed to a hopper extruder (18) of conventional design is formed as a continuous ribbon (26) on a series of pallets (P) conveyed beneath the hopper extruder (18). The ribbon (26) is thereafter cut by a knife (3) into discrete tiles (T) on said pallets (P) with a "side-lock" portion of each tile being blanked out by extension portions (32) (34) of the knife (30). The blanked out portions are thereafter removed from the remainder of the tiles by a blade 90 of removal means 14 such that no damage is caused to the tiles (T) and little or not detritus remains on the tile or the conveyors of the tile making plant.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1987Date of Patent: August 15, 1989Assignee: Redland Roof Tiles LimitedInventors: Frank A. Patent number: 4854756Abstract: In a printer in which an elongated shuttle is driven in reciprocating fashion across a print paper with hammers mounted along the length of the shuttle being selectively fired to print dots on the paper, a timing system provides hammer fire pulses denoting the positions of the shuttle at which hammer firing should be initiated to print in the proper dot positions. Proper timing is maintained so as to allow for printing during acceleration and deceleration as well as during constant velocity movement of the shuttle by determining the average shuttle velocity between each successive pair of fence post pulses generated by a shuttle-coupled encoder. The average velocities are represented by the time lapses between occurrence of the pairs of fence post pulses which are measured and stored during each startup of the printer as well as each time the nominal operating shuttle velocity is changed as part of a change in printer operation.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1987Date of Patent: August 8, 1989Assignee: Printronix, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth A.
