Patent number: 8351491Abstract: A system and method for supporting multiple applications are described. A digital subscriber line system includes two transceivers in communication over a communication channel using multicarrier modulation. Application profiles are defined for characterizing transmission of information over the communication channel. Each application profile is a parameter set that is associated with a unique set of one or more applications that may become active between the transceivers and specifies the transmission requirements for such applications. Each transceiver stores the application profiles and transmits information over the communication channel according to the one of the stored application profiles. When a change in a number of applications active between the transceivers occurs, a second one of the application profiles is retrieved. The transceivers then transition to transmitting information over the communication channel according to the second application profile.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2010Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: Daphimo Co. Patent number: 8341485Abstract: In some embodiments, the invention involves increasing hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) throughput. In one embodiment, throughput may be increased by clearing the retransmission buffer at least one frame in advance, based on status received from the downlink device before a full acknowledgement. Another embodiment partitions HARQ bursts into two groups. A first group is for packet data units (PDUs) that are anticipated to be in error and a second group is for PDUs anticipated to be received correctly. Only PDUs that are anticipated to be in error, based on forward error correction (FEC) blocks, are to be saved in the retransmission buffer. Other embodiments are described and claimed.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2010Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Eilon Riess, Amir Rubin, Timor Israeli

Patent number: 8332981Abstract: Embodiments herein provide a modular gutter for use by bicycles and other conveyances. When utilized, a conveyance may be guided along the gutter either by an individual on the conveyance or adjacent to it, whether up or down the gutter. The gutter may be manufactured in various lengths and arrangements, and additionally, the components of the gutter are designed to permit multiple subunits to be coupled to form longer gutters. Alternatively, the gutters may be cut to a desired length should the manufactured length be too long. Thus, the gutter may be sized for any of a variety of staircases. The gutter may be removably installed on existing staircases without the need to redesign or reconstruct the staircase.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 2011Date of Patent: December 18, 2012Assignee: Oregon Health & Science UniversityInventors: Christopher Woo, Gary Granger

Patent number: 8332793Abstract: Techniques for placement of integrated circuit elements include global placement, detailed placement, timing closure, and routing. The integrated circuit is described by a netlist specifying interconnections of morphable devices. The detailed placement uses, for example, Simultaneous Dynamical Integration, wherein the morphable-devices correspond to nodes influenced by forces, including timing forces. The timing forces are derived, for example, from a timing graph; path delay; slack; and drive resistance of the elements. The timing closure uses timing-driven buffering and timing-driven resizing to reduce maximum delay and/or transition time, and/or to fix hold time. Nets having high capacitance and/or fanout, and timing critical nets are preferentially processed. Timing-driven buffering applies buffering solutions to segments of route trees, combines solutions of adjoining segments, and prunes sets of solutions. Timing-driven resizing morphably replaces selected elements with upsized versions thereof.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2007Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Otrsotech, LLCInventor: Subhasis Bose
