  • Patent number: 8338987
Abstract: A solar power generation system includes a control system and a DC to AC converter coupled to a photovoltaic (PV) module and for supplying power to a power network. The control system includes a power point tracker to extract either maximum power available from the PV module or less than maximum power available from the PV module, a frequency monitor to obtain a network frequency from the power network, an internal reference frame element to provide an internal reference frequency of the solar power generation system, a frequency comparator to compare the network frequency and the internal reference frequency, and a command signal generator to use the frequency comparison to determine whether a transient increase or decrease in commanded output power is warranted and to provide a command signal.

  • Patent number: 8232801
Abstract: Structural health monitoring using nuclear quadrupole resonance is disclosed. For example, in one embodiment, a method of monitoring stress is provided. The method includes scanning a composite using an NQR spectrometer, the composite having a polymer matrix and a microcrystalline material disposed in the matrix. The microcrystalline material includes molecules having nuclei with respective nuclear quadrupole moments. The method also includes determining microscopic strain distribution indices of the composite from the NQR scans to quantify stress and identify precursors to failure in the composite.

  • Patent number: 8111889
Abstract: A technique is disclosed for generating variance data and a variance map from measured projection data acquired from a tomography system. The method comprises accessing the measured projection data from the tomography system. The method further comprises generating the variance map from the measured projection data and displaying, analyzing or processing the variance map. The variance data is determined based upon a statistical model from measured image data, and may be used for image analysis, data acquisition, in computer aided diagnosis routines, and so forth.

  • Patent number: 8100831
Abstract: Ultrasound data of a biological tissue is acquired in a relaxed state and a tensed state. A strain is estimated directly from the relaxed state ultrasound data and the tensed state ultrasound data by way of an imaginary part of a complex correlation function. In estimating the strain, the tensed state ultrasound data is re-stretched, and the imaginary part of the complex correlation function is calculated from this re-stretched ultrasound data and the relaxed state ultrasound data. A slope factor is also calculated, and the strain is estimated from this slope factor and the imaginary part of the complex correlation function.

  • Patent number: 7969244
Abstract: A technique is provided for acquiring data with reduced correlated low frequency noise interference via a data acquisition circuit. The data acquisition circuit includes a plurality of data channels comprising a plurality of amplifiers and a biasing circuit for providing bias voltages to the plurality of amplifiers. The biasing circuit is configured to generate the bias voltages and establish a relationship between the bias voltages so as to reduce correlated low frequency noise in the plurality of amplifiers.
