  • Patent number: 4326405
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for testing of bonded laminates which include a substrate and a face sheet bonded thereto. The apparatus has at least one air nozzle arranged to direct high velocity air in a direction generally radially outward of the circular pattern at a shallow angle to the face sheet of the laminate. A detection plate on the examining surface of the device is encircled by the air nozzles. The detection plate has associated therewith means for detecting when the face sheet of the laminate is deflected toward the detection plate, indicating that the laminate is not bonded to the substrate in that area. High pressure air is introduced through the air nozzles thereby producing an air cushion between the examining surface of the apparatus and the face sheet of the laminate and simultaneously producing a vacuum in the area between the detection plate and the face sheet, whereby the face sheet will be deflected toward the detection plate in an area where the face sheet is not bonded to the substrate.

  • Patent number: 4324397
Abstract: A platform, for use in a sheet stacking device in which the platform descends as a stack being formed on it grows higher, is so constructed that its length can be varied according to the length of sheets to be stacked. The platform is made in two or more sections (10, 11, 12) each hinged (15, 17) to the next, and all sections are supported horizontally to receive long sheets, less than all the sections being horizontal and the remaining sections hanging vertically when shorter sheets are being stacked. Wheels (13, 16, 18) may be provided on the platform so that it may easily be moved out of the stacking device when loaded, all the sections being restored to a horizontal position for such movement.

  • Patent number: 4322831
Abstract: A programmed digital secondary clock which functions as a master clock, a sub-master clock or a slave clock. The master clock maintains an updated real time count based on a 50 hz or 60 hz ac line or digital oscillator signal, displays the count, and serially transmits digital information representative of the updated real time count for use by a slave clock. The sub-master clock, receives an hourly or twice-a-day correction signal from a conventional master clock or a conventional electronic receiver, corrects the real time count, displays the corrected count, and serially transmits digital information representative of the corrected real time count for use by a slave clock. Identical programmed digital secondary clocks can be connected in daisy chain. The first clock can operate as a master clock or as a sub-master clock. The following clocks can be operated as slave clocks.

  • Patent number: 4320566
Abstract: A heat exchanger is retrofitted by removing old heat exchange tubes. If there is no access passage into the shell, an access hole is cut in a wall of the shell. Modules preformed from zig-zag elements are introduced through the access passage and assembled into a tube support panel within the shell between adjacent support plates. The heat exchanger is retubed so as to support the new tubes by the existing support plates and by said panels.

  • Patent number: 4320683
Abstract: An asynchronous interface includes two memories which store multiplexed keyboard information such that while one memory is writing in newly acquired key information from one musical instrument system at the clock rate of that system, the other memory is reading out previously acquired key information to a second musical instrument system at the clock rate of the second system. Periodically, based on timing signals derived from both systems, the read/write roles of the two memories are reversed. Any number of asynchronously clocked systems, each connected to an associated asynchronous interface, may be keyed by a single key multiplexing device or by the multiplexing information from another asynchronous interface.

  • Patent number: 4320970
Abstract: An ultraviolet light beam is split into two beams which are directed toward a reference cell and a sample cell, respectively. A mechanical rotating light chopper permits the reference and sample cells to be alternately illuminated. Radiation from the reference and sample cells is directed toward and sensed by a single photomultiplier tube. An up/down counter counts the number of photons impinging on the photomultiplier tube from the reference and sample cells. Photodiodes in conjunction with the mechanical light chopper cause the up/down counter to count up when photons are arriving from the sample cell and cause the up/down counter to count down when photons are arriving from the reference cell. A source intensity monitor prohibits further measurements after a preselected amount of incident flux has been sensed. The intensity monitor includes a photodetector circuit which senses a portion of the incident light.
