Abstract: A security device for securing first and second adjacent doors having first and second door knobs, respectively, is disclosed. Each door knob has a neck portion and a head portion. The security device comprises: (a) a rigid plate disposed substantially between two parallel planes; (b) first and second openings spaced apart from one another in a bottom wall of the plate; (c) first and second holes in first and second side walls of the plate, the holes extending through the plate into the openings; (d) first and second locking pins slidably disposed within the first and second holes; and (e) first and second springs attached to the pins which bias the pins to the locking position. The springs can retract into enlarged portions of the holes when the locking pins are in their unlocked positions. The first and second locking pins extend below the respective neck portions of the door knobs when the locking pins are in their locking positions.
Abstract: A method for deoxygenating water is provided comprising the steps of (1) adding an oxygen scavenger such as hydrazine, carbohydrazide, diethylhydroxylamine or morpholine to water containing oxygen, contacting the water and the oxygen scavenger with hydroxide, carbonate or carbonate/bicarbonate form strong base anion resin wherein the water within the bed has a pH greater than about 7; and (2) contacting the water containing the oxygen scavenger with the strong base anion resin for at least about one minute and removing from the bed water containing less than about 100 ppb oxygen. The method is especially useful in deoxygenating boiler feedwater and makeup water at substantially ambient temperatures during boiler start-up procedures.
Abstract: A trailer unit includes a front trailer section and a rear trailer section disposed in an aligned end-to-end relationship with a lift arm being pivotally connected at opposite ends thereof to the front and rear trailer sections. The rear trailer section includes a series of ground engaging wheels, whereas the front trailer section, when hitched to the tractor truck, is simply supported by the tractor truck's conventional fifth wheel. The trailer unit is adapted to be rigged to a conventional tractor truck with no important modifications having to be made thereto. Hydraulic cylinders are pivotally mounted at their cylinder ends to rear of the front trailer section and at their piston ends to the front end of the lift arm. When the cylinders are extended, a rear end of the lift arm is gradually pivoted upward and forward, whereby lifting the front end of the rear trailer section and carrying the same gradually onto the front trailer section.
Abstract: A reusable flood barrier is provided to erect reusable flood barrier banks. The flood barrier comprises (a) a front panel having a front face, a rear face, a top edge, a pair of side edges, and a base; (b) a rear support attached to the rear face of the front panel to prop the front panel on the base; and (c) an elongated clamp removably and adjustably affixed to the front face of the front panel. The clamp has an edge disposed proximate and substantially parallel to each side edge of the front panel respectively. The clamp is capable of anchoring a long edge of an elongated interconnection gasket. The gasket is capable of placement over the gap between a side edge of the front panel of a first flood barrier and an abutting side edge of the front panel of an adjacent flood barrier. The anchoring action of the clamp on adjacent flood barrier front panels enables the gasket to provide a water seal between the front panels.
Abstract: This invention relates to an unnecessary electromagnetic wave shielding structure of a magnetron for a microwave oven, comprising an electric wave absorbent filament ceramic disposed adjacent the lower end of a power input section to prevent unnecessary electromagnetic waves produced in an active space from being leaked from the input section through a center lead extending downwardly from an upper end shield of the active space and a side lead disposed adjacent the center lead; first and second ferrite cores having different frequency characteristics and inserted concentrically over the filament ceramics at the respective upper and lower sides of the outer periphery thereof to cooperate with the ceramics to shield the unnecessary electromagnetic waves; and an annular insulator placed between the second ferrite core and filament terminals to insulate the ferrite core from the terminals.
Abstract: A fluid sampling apparatus and method for remotely sampling insulating fluid in a high voltage, high amperage electrical switch without de-energizing the switch. The apparatus includes a sampling tube, a supporting structure for the tube, a rack and pinion gear assembly for lowering and raising the tube, and an elongated handle for operating the gear assembly. The fluid sample is collected in a sample bottle fluidly connected to an overflow bottle and a vacuum pump for withdrawing the insulating fluid. The sampling tool is made mostly of electrically insulating plastic. A removing tool for remotely removing a plug from the electrical switch is used. The removing tool comprises a socket, a socket extender, a ratchet wrench attachable to the extender, and two pull cords for remotely operating the wrench.
Abstract: Described herein are heat recoverable composite coupling comprising an outer, tubular heat-shrinkable sleeve and a hollow insert member adapted to receive plural substrates. The insert member has a tapered surface to allow it to accommodate substrates of different sizes. Recovery of the outer member forces the insert member into secure contact with the substrate forming a union between the substrates.
