    Abstract: A vehicular impact absorbing apparatus includes a pair of tubular guide rails having a guide slit longitudinally formed at the upper part of each guide rail fixed to the ground. Sliders are movably mounted in the guide rail at predetermined intervals, the upper part of each slider is laid on the upper part of the guide rail through the guide slit. Cushion units are mounted on the upper part of each slider. Each cushion unit is elastically deformed by vehicular impact while retracting along the guide rail. Cushion pins are mounted across the guide rails at predetermined intervals between the sliders that also absorb the kinetic energy of an impact by being broken by the rearward retracting slider. A stopper is installed around the rear end of the guide rail for stopping the retracting cushion units. A successive cushion and deceleration of the impact is possible in this arrangement.

    Abstract: A method of making calcium-2-hydroxy-4-(mercaptomethyl)butanoate includes combining and mixing 2-hydroxy-4-(mercaptomethyl)butanoic acid and a calcium salt selected from calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide and water in a first reaction zone. The combining and mixing step is carried out over a first period of 3-120 seconds. The resulting reaction mixture is transferred at the end of the first period from the first reaction zone to a second reaction zone, the transferring step being carried out over a second period of 3-60 seconds. Heat generated by reaction between the 2-hydroxy-4-(mercaptomethyl)butanoic acid and the calcium salt in the second reaction zone is allowed to drive off sufficient water to produce a product mixture containing less than 5% (m/m) water.

    Abstract: A scour platform to prevent scour of a moving body of water is constructed by placing an excavation adjacent to the body of water. The excavation is spaced laterally from the body of water and extends up or downstream a desired length. A stabilizing sheet material covers the bottom of the excavation. Aggregate is placed within the excavation over the sheet material, and a free end of the sheet material is then folded back over the upper surface of the emplaced aggregate. Any remaining gaps between the excavation and the sheet material may be backfilled and compacted as necessary. The scour platform is completed once the free end of the sheet material is folded back over the aggregate. For additional prevention of scour, micropiles may be emplaced between the scour platform and the body of water.

A horizontal drive circuit generates a horizontal transfer clock using the divided clock signal and the horizontal scan timing signal. The horizontal transfer clock is used to move the information charges from the vertical transfer registers to the horizontal transfer register. A vertical drive circuit generates a vertical transfer clock using a reference clock signal and the vertical scan timing signal. The vertical transfer clock is used to move the information charges from the pixels to the vertical transfer registers.

    Abstract: The trailer is operative to carry tubulars (drill collars or drill pipe) to a service rig and raise them to the level of the rig floor so that the rig elevators can latch onto them and stand them up in the derrick. An elongate flat bed is pivotally mounted at its front end to the trailer frame. The bed's rear end can be raised by a scissor hoist connected between the carriage and the rear end of the bed. The bed has grooves extending lengthwise thereof in which the tubulars sit. Thus the trailer can be backed up to within a few feet from the well. The rear end of the bed can be raised and the carriage and bed can be advanced rearwardly to bring the rear ends of the tubulars within reach of the rig elevators.
