  • Patent number: 8308485
Abstract: The invention describes a method for evaluating educational programs which, firstly, develops criteria which will address the strengths and weaknesses of the educational program. The second step of the method is to observe the criteria, chosen in step one, in the educational program. The third step is to assign a numerical value to each of the criteria observed in step two. The next step is to assign an overall rating to the educational program based on the numerically valued criteria. The personnel involved in the educational program can then decide what steps in addition to the assessment can be done to improve or maintain the educational program.

  • Patent number: 8308958
Abstract: A fluid clarification system and method is described in which fluid is passed through one or more settling compartments, each having a solids outlet at the base of the compartment. The base of each compartment includes inclined surfaces for guiding settled solids to the outlet. Also described is a polymer reaction trough including baffles to promote gentle mixing of inflow fluid with flocculant. The system is designed to reduce costs of transportation, flocculant, and solids handling. The system is preferably arranged to facilitate transport on a skid or trailer, while maximizing fluid handling capabilities and minimizing costs.

  • Patent number: 8307741
Abstract: A multi-function tool includes an extendible and retractable portion that becomes offset from a centerline position of the handle when in the offset position. A locking mechanism allows the workman to offset the shaft from a centerline position of the handle, or retract the shaft back into the handle into a centerline position. While the shaft is in the extended and offset position, the shaft rotates freely in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. When the shaft is retracted in the straight centerline position, a ratchet mechanism or gear box restricts shaft rotation in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, or allows rotation in either direction. The shaft can be extended and offset by means of a spring or other device that allows the locking mechanism to offset automatically or semi-automatically when the locking mechanism is activated. The shaft allows the workman to interchange bits or sockets for multiple applications.

  • Patent number: 8306191
Abstract: Voice analysis of a subscribers' greeting is used to assist with determining a true identity of a caller. When a greeting is recorded by the subscriber (e.g., the subscriber speaks their voice as part of their default greeting, or a custom greeting for a voice mail system), the system can analyze the greeting and create a voice signature or voiceprint of the greeting. This voiceprint information can be saved in the system and associated with the subscriber. When a subscriber changes their greeting that was previously analyzed to create a voiceprint, the messaging system can optionally analyze the newly recorded greeting to create a new voiceprint for the subscriber, with the system saving the new voiceprint in the system for future recognition tasks. This voiceprint is then used to identify the true identity of a caller that leaves a voice message.

  • Patent number: 8306273
Abstract: The present invention pertains to the identification of a set of measurement data, using an a priori model database, which is then used in the determination of a pose solution using LADAR data. In particular, a model database of a target scene is created. The model database includes location information for a plurality of points within the target scene, and separation distances between sets of those points defining triangles. LADAR data obtained from a target scene is processed to extract features. Location information and separation distances between sets of extracted features defining triangles are placed in a measurement database. Separation distances contained in the measurement database are compared to separation distances contained in the model database. If a match is found, a rotation quaternion and translation vector are calculated, to transform the data in the measurement database into the frame of reference of the data in the model database.

  • Patent number: 8306284
Abstract: The present method relates to the manual assistance for the automated indexing (100) of a collection of images using facial recognition. In a first automated indexing step, automated indexing of faces within a collection of images is performed, creating sets of faces each of which comprises faces that are determined by the automated process to be representative of the same person. In a second splitting step (200), sets are displayed to an operator, who determines whether there are false-positive associations within a set. If false-positive associations are found, the faces representing different people are manually split into different sets, hi this way, there will be no false-positive associations within the collection of images, hi a third merging step (300), sets that have some degree of similarity are presented to the operator, who determines whether the two sets comprise representations of the same person. If so, the two sets are manually merged, thereby eliminating false-negative errors.

  • Patent number: 8302220
Abstract: A bathtub drainage and overflow system assembly is a combination of a one-piece overflow pipe and a waste water drain assembly connected by a T-shaped elbow. The one-piece overflow pipe has an inverted L-shape having an elbow portion. A lip extends radially outwardly from an outer surface of the overflow pipe to engage an outer surface of the bathtub end wall around the bathtub overflow port. A thin diaphragm is used to close the inlet to fluid flow. The waste water drain has an L-shaped drain pipe having an annular flange resting on a bottom wall of the bathtub.

  • Patent number: 8306204
Abstract: An interface allows a simple control to be shared by one or more conference participants. One exemplary embodiment maps complex techniques associated with conference control into a simple control. The control may be a single slider to adjust both the amount of control and the level of aggressiveness to get the best quality in a dynamic and changing environment. Another exemplary type of control would be to use two sliders—one to select and/or aggregate conference control mechanisms, and the other to adjust the aggressiveness of the selected conference control mechanism or aggregated mechanisms. Another exemplary type of control could be a simple rotary dial to emulate the two-dimensionality of two or more sliders. These controls could have the techniques associated with each position dynamically chosen and/or updated, for example, throughout a conference.

  • Patent number: 8300748
Abstract: A method and apparatus that allows egress pointer smoothing data by evaluating the average fill of an elastic store. For one embodiment of the invention, an elastic store implements a plurality of independent FIFOs, each FIFO having a write pointer and a read pointer, the write pointer including a marking pointer field and valid flag field. An incoming byte is received to a location within a traffic memory and the write pointer is used to instruct the traffic memory to indicate that the incoming bit has been received to the location. The valid flag field is set to indicate that the value at the location is currently valid.
