Abstract: A fluid filter and a method of constructing a fluid filter which will independently retain itself in a fluid passageway includes a sheet of filter media and a retainer which is attachable to one side of the filter media. The retainer may be sized to frictionally engage the walls of the fluid passageway or may be of a resilient material which allows the retainer to resiliently engage the walls of the passageway. The retainer is attached around only the periphery of the filter media with the central portion of the filter media being free with the respect to the retainer. The filter media has flexible edges which extend beyond the retainer to seal the passageway so that all fluid flowing through the passageway will flow through the filter media.

Abstract: A bicycle auxiliary power unit is provided wherein hand powered levers provide a mechanical means for transposing the natural power strokes of the rider to the mechanism propelling the vehicle. The auxiliary power unit provides a means for permitting a street bicycle to be utilized for exercising the upper and lower extremities.

Abstract: A container of adjustable width including a base, a back, a front edge and two side walls, the container being characterized in that it is formed by two elements (1, 2) each including a side wall (3, 13) bounded by the back (4, 14) and a base part, the back parts (4, 14) and the base parts (5, 15) of the two elements (1, 2) overlapping each other to enable the width (L) of the container to be adjusted by the movement of the two elements (1, 2) towards or away from each other.

Abstract: A method and means is provided for cleaning of drums with interior linings wherein sulfuric acid is utilized. The process of the present invention is especially suitable for cleaning epoxy, phenolic, epoxy phenolic linings and other linings from steel drums. In certain instances chains may be used in conjunction with the cleaning process.

Abstract: The present invention is to provide an improved container rotor for use in a centrifugal separator which can serve different types of the centrifugal separating operation by the employment of a specific rotor which allows three types of bucket to be exchanged readily with one out of the swing type, the angled aperture type and the horizontal aperture type accordingly to the kind of specimen to be separated, which comprises, in combination, a rotor body and a plurality of buckets, wherein the rotor body includes receiving recesses and an opposed pair of supports for receiving operatively the plurality of buckets, the buckets being adapted to afford three different types of centrifugal separating operations, i.e., the swing type, the angled aperture type and the horizontal aperture type.

Abstract: A wear-resistant copper-base sintered oil-containing bearing material having a structure which contains 2 to 11 % by weight of tin and 1 to 20 % by weight of cobalt and further includes 2 to 15 % by weight of at least one of molybdenum disulfide, graphite and lead serving as solid lubricants. Disperesed throughout that structure is cobalt at an average particle size equal to or less than 20 .mu.m.

Abstract: A way is provided for controlling mosquitoes within the human being is simulated to attract mosquitoes away from areas of human gatherings, such as backyards and the like. A solution of lactic acid in water is prepared and heated to simulate the body temperature of a human being, and a fan or blower is provided to direct the lactic acid molecules away from the areas of human habitation so that mosquitoes or other pests can be subsequently destroyed by heat, electrocution or the like.

Abstract: The reversible endless screw slides are fixed by their lower fixed elements to the vehicle floor via a base plate. The base plate is mounted under at least one of the two slides and carries a profile section forming a rack cooperating with a reversible endless screw and which can be locked by a second shoe. The movement of the second shoe is controlled by a lever able to pivot against action of springs via another lever fast with an articulated control bow placed between the two slides so as to free the endless screw placed in a casing and cooperating with the rack for forming a mechanical memory for the slides.

There is provided a barrel having a modified area having an outside surface machined down and threaded. There is further provided a bushing having an outside tapered surface and inside threaded surface. A slide is provided having an inside surface tapered to fit the bushing.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for determining decreases and increases of viscosities of used oils or fluids and to detect changes in the oils or fluids during operation in equipment or storage. The limits on both ends can be established by the individual user to meet his or her own specification. Also, the standards can be prepared in a laboratory using various amounts of lesser and higher viscosity oils or fluids to attain the minimum and maximum limits required. There is provided three cups having holes or apertures in the lower end and wherein the holes or apertures are of different sizes, and wherein the cups are adapted to be moved into engagement with containers having oil or fluid therein, and then the cups are raised or immersed to permit the oils or fluids to drain through the holes to accomplish the desired results.

Abstract: A roofing product is provided that has a release film on the back surface thereof, and the release film is split to allow the material to be flopped back; one side is stuck and then the other side is flopped down. The roofing product includes a top surface having roofing granules thereon and wherein a selvedge is provided along the length of the product for overlapping several of them on the roof. An important aspect of the present invention is that the back surface has a silicone coated 2-section release film. The composition of the roofing product consists of polymer-modified bitumen which makes the product self-adhering. There is a fiberglass reinforcement inside the product. The peel-off film on the back surface of the product consists of two separate strips instead of a single strip or film.

Abstract: There is provided a telephone call monitoring, metering and selection device, the purpose of which is to select the lowest-cost way to make a call from one point to another point. The user will program the possible carriers and rates from a standard telephone and the user will enter the time, date, taxes and other information after plugging in the unit. After selecting the destination phone number, the device will show the rates of all possible carriers and then allow the user to choose or select a desired carrier. Because carriers do not have the same quality, the low-cost carrier may not always be the carrier the user wants to select. The unit will display all carrier rates on a one minute call, five minute call, ten minute call and the like. The device will show the user on a real time basis what the calls may cost. The costing feature will apply to local and long distance calls.

Abstract: An arcuate plastic shoe-like sleeve form with an upper open minor end and a lower open major end is provided for attachment by a mounting flange on its major end to a form structure for poured concrete slabs, such as a floor, so that, after concrete is poured and set on the form structure, an arcuate opening is produced in the slab through which a pipe, electrical conduit and the like can be easily threaded as it is moved parallel with the slab and introduced into the opening.

Abstract: There is provided a method and apparatus for testing drums such as steel drums, wherein the drums are moved automatically into a pre-determined area, and the drums are rotated and oriented, air under pressure is next introduced into the drums, and wherein after an operator observes the drums for leaks, the drums are mechanically lifted from a water filled area. The method and apparatus can be utilized as a dum submerged tester for handling a plurality of drums, or the method and apparatus can be for a single drum submerged tester.

Abstract: An apparatus for intermittently and accurately discharging a measured portion of the contents of a container by a peristaltic pumping action and such apparatus includes an elongated elastomeric tubular body having a connection at one end for attachment to the container and a discharge tip section at the other end on which a dispensing valve and cap are mounted.
