  • Patent number: 4634816
Abstract: A communications headset has two earpieces mounted on a headband, one at each end. The earpieces are mounted on the headband by arcuate members or stirrups which provide for pivoting of the earpieces about an axis in the plane of the headband, or parallel thereto. A boom attachment member is rotatably mounted on the back of one of the earpieces and the boom is mounted on the attachment member for pivotal and swinging movement. A receiver can be in both earpieces or only in the earpiece carrying the boom. The boom carries an electret microphone and associated amplifier.

  • Patent number: 4605153
Abstract: A solder pad is provided at each end of a mounting position for a cylindrical electronic device on a circuit board. Each solder pad has two humps of solder spaced apart in a direction normal to the axis of the device, the humps defining a channel in which the end of a device can rest prior to being reflow soldered. The humps have a convex arcuate outer surface in plan view and when viewed in a direction parallel to the axis of the device has a profile which is of convex arcuate form. The humps are formed by depositing a thick patch of solder paste at each hump position and heating the circuit board and solder paste to melt the paste. After positioning of devices, the solder is reflowed to attach the devices.

  • Patent number: 4598175
Abstract: A telephone set for optional two position mounting, on a wall or desk, has a flat rectangular main body portion of the base with a projecting portion extending forwardly and upwardly from the top edge of the body portion. The projecting portion includes two surfaces at right angles defining a corner through which extends the hook switch actuating member. The handset has a recess in its undersurface which rests on the projecting portion. The handset rests on one or the other of the two surfaces at right angles, depending upon the mounting position of the base.

  • Patent number: 4598176
Abstract: Handsets for communications terminals can cause interference with operation of keyboards and the like because the handset cord can obstruct the keyboard when "on-hook". By clipping a cord guide and retainer on to the end of the handset, the cord can be guided to exit sideways. The cord guide and retainer is a channel-shaped member which snaps on to the end of the handset and has a recess into which the cord exits from the handset and from which the cord exits at one end through an aperture. The guide and retainer can be attached in either of two directions to cause the cord to exit to either side of the handset.

  • Patent number: 4594478
Abstract: A transmitter assembly for a telephone set uses a commercially available cartridge electric transmitter, by modifying the response curve. This is obtained by an adapter housing the transmitter with a first volume defined between the end of the transmitter and the end of the bore in which the transmitter fits. At the end of the bore there is an end wall with a hole therethrough, the hole covered with a layer of acoustic resistance material. A second volume is formed on the other side of the end wall, by a hollow formation on the wall of the transmitter housing of the handset. A slot is formed in the transmitter housing wall within the formation. The first volume provides damping, the hole and acoustic resistance material provides dB limitation at a particular frequency (1000 Hz) and the second volume and slot provide resonance at a second frequency (3000 Hz).

  • Patent number: 4593159
Abstract: A base-plate for a telephone set base has a bottom web or panel, with a wall extending upward around the panel for the majority of its periphery. At one side an inclined web extends inward and upward and a wall extends round the periphery of the web, with an aperture formed in the bottom panel coincident with the inclined web. The inclined web, and the wall around the web define a lower recess and an upper recess. A further recess in the bottom panel, closed on three sides and top and open on the fourth side provides access for modular plugs of the handset cord and line cord. Enclosed channels extend from the upper end and lower end to the further channel for passage of line and handset cords. A further enclosed channel extends from the lower recess to the channel from the upper end for alternate positioning of a short line cord in a wall mounting mode. Mounting means for a circuit board, hook switch and piezoceramic transducer are provided.

  • Patent number: 4589720
Abstract: A planar electronic filter has at least two dielectric plates with a ground plate between them and a plurality of parallel spaced electrodes on the outer surface of each plate. A contact area on at least one end surface connects with the ground plate. Usually contact pins are mounted, as by soldering, on the electrodes, a pin on each electrode, with the ends of the pins extending beyond the sides of the plates. The pin ends may be of male or female form, or can be formed for solder or wire wrapping attachment of conductors. The filter is generally mounted in a housing and it can be arranged that contact pins are not mounted on the electrodes but contact members in the housing make direct contact with the electrodes. A connector embodying the filter can comprise one or two housings. One housing can insert into the other and make contact with the filter.

  • Patent number: 4580192
Abstract: Plug-in circuit packs, as used in telecommunications systems are planar assemblies which slide into position in a support frame, with electrical connections usually made at the inner or rear end. Assistance in withdrawal, and latching when in position are provided by a latching and withdrawing assembly at the front end of the circuit pack, having an integrally molded spring cantilever, free at its forward end and having an outwardly extending projection at its free end, the cantilever defining a channel in which slides an actuator. The actuator has spaced side members joined at an inner end by a cylindrical member which slides in the channel. Flange members are formed on the inner end of each side member. Rotation of the actuator at its outermost position causes the flange members to bear on the free end of the cantilever to deflect it. This disengages the outwardly extending projection at the free end of the cantilever from a detent in the support frame.

  • Patent number: 4574272
Abstract: The vibratory element of a tone ringer, as used for a telephone set for example, is gripped at its periphery between a ledge on a base housing and a thin deformable extension on a top housing. Interengaging clamping members and wedging members force the top housing down on the base housing when the top housing is rotated relative to the bottom housing. This forces the thin deformable extension into a tight gripping contact with the vibratory element clamping it against the ledge while the thin portion deforms. A ratchet arrangement can be provided to rotationally lock the top housing relative to the base housing. A mounting position for a printed circuit board can be provided on the base housing.
