  • Patent number: 7349821
Abstract: A device and method for conversion of bi-directional signals using controlled dual value up/down counters uses a plurality of cascaded up/down counters chained together to alter the ratio of a maximum coefficient of N to N+1 for the first counter in the cascade of counters. The output count signal of each counter is connected to the clock signal input of the next counter. The signal to be converted is input to the first counter in the chain and each input pulse increments or decrements a count value for the counter until a maximum coefficient or zero is reached at which point a count pulse is output of the counter and it is then reset to zero or the maximum coefficient at the next input pulse depending on whether a direction input is high or low circuit.

  • Patent number: 7336756
Abstract: A signal converter is comprised of a plurality of counters (“macro-counters”). In turn, each of the macro-counters is comprised of a plurality of single-bit counters (“micro-counters”) that are adapted to receive configuration data in the form of bit fields. The configuration data is comprised of data corresponding to a plurality of coefficients and of data for grouping the micro-counters into the macro-counters. The coefficients are derived from an input signal/output signal ratio of the converter, and control the manner by which the macro-counters generate the output signal. Thus the converter can be programmed by an end-user in the field.

  • Patent number: 7249923
Abstract: This invention relates generally to a flexible fastener for coupling members. In a preferred embodiment, the flexible fastener may be used to couple members that are non-parallel, non-aligned, or in specific instances when selective compliance in a member is desired. The present invention is directed generally to a fastener that comprises a spiral set of teeth. The spiral set of teeth are configured to allow a nut to travel along at least a portion of the spiral set of teeth. A selectively compliant core material runs completely internally to the spiral set of teeth, so that the fastener is laterally flexible along a length of the fastener. The selectively compliant core material is connected to the spiral set of teeth.

  • Patent number: 7249992
Abstract: The present embodiment provides for methods and systems for use in processing objects such as wafers, including polishing and/or grinding wafers. Some embodiments provide systems that include a front-end module and a processing module. The front end module couples with a storage device that stores objects for processing. The front-end module can comprise a single robot, a transfer station, and a plurality of end effectors. The processing module is coupled with the front-end module such that the single robot delivers objects from the storage device to the processing module. The processing module comprising a rotating table, and a spindle with a carrier configured to retrieve the delivered object and process the object on the rotating table.

  • Patent number: 7181378
Abstract: The present embodiments provide for apparatuses, and methods for manufacturing apparatuses to convert a first distribution of an input radiation to a second distribution of output radiation. The apparatus can be defined in some embodiments by generating a two-dimensional representation of three active optical surfaces including calculating a segment of first, entry and second surfaces based on first second, and third generalized Cartesian ovals, respectively, and successively repeating the calculating of the segments of the first and second surfaces, and rotationally sweeping the two-dimensional representation about a central axis providing a three-dimensional representation. In some embodiments, portion of the first and/or second surfaces can be totally internally reflective.

  • Patent number: 7118446
Abstract: A grinding assembly for shaping work pieces that includes one or more grind spindles. Each of the grind spindles include two independent grinding wheels driven by a single spindle drive. The grind spindles translate horizontally to perform both edge and face grinding with a single grind spindle. A non-contact position sensor in a work spindle measures work spindle displacement during grinding and provides feedback to the grind spindle to regulate the force imparted on the work piece by the grind spindle. In variations, an abrasive wheel disposed radially with respect to an axis of spindle rotation is utilized to perform edge grinding of the work piece. In other variations cleaning, polishing and grinding are carried out in a single grinding assembly. In yet other variations, a wheel dressing apparatus is utilized to dress the wheel when one or more forces to maintain productivity of the grind wheel exceed a threhold.
